The Dodgers beat the Padres 6-0, and in so doing, they have not only won this series, but with a 7-2 record against SD, they have formally won the season series. If the Dodgers and Padres tie at the end of the season, the Dodgers get the tie breaker.
Blake Snell pitched a scoreless 6.0 innings. But it was not without stress. Snell is going to owe Will Smith for this game. Three Padres looked to steal off Snell, and Smith threw all three out. Smith threw out Fernando Tatis Jr. trying to steal 2nd after he singled to start the game.
Later in the 1st, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Luis Arreaz and Manny Machado took off and Smith threw out Machado at 2B to end the inning. In the 2nd inning, Xander Bogaerts opened with a single and was promptly thrown out by Will trying to steal 2nd. As Snell said after the game, Smith got 3 outs and Snell got 3 outs in the first two innings.
This was the first game Snell has faced San Diego since he left the Padres, and only the 2nd time he has faced them in his career. 9 years ago to the day (08-16-2016), as a member of Tampa Bay, he pitched 5.0 innings allowing 1 run.
It was a typical Snell outing who threw 24 pitches in the 1st inning and 96 for the game. He allowed 2 doubles and 3 singles, with 2 BB, and an un-Snell like 3 K.
The Dodgers turned 4 BB and sacrifice fly for 1 run. But with 2 outs, Dylan Cease was looking to get out of the inning allowing only 1 run. However, with the bases loaded, 2 outs, and a 3-2 count, Michael Conforto hit a 2-run single, and a 3-0 lead. Conforto would go on to have a two hit night.

The Dodgers got a gift two runs in the 2nd. With 2 runners on via the walk. Freddie Freeman hit a long fly to right center that Jackson Merrill misplayed and dropped the ball for a 2-run error.
Dylan Cease walked two more batters in the 2nd.
Then Freddie Freeman hit a fly ball to center field that Jackson Merrill couldn't catch.

Teoscar Hernández launched a HR in his 2nd consecutive game for the 6th run.

Dylan Cease’s chase rate is 83rd percentile and 95th percentile for whiffs, but the Dodgers did not chase in this game. Thus, Cease walked 6 batters in the first two innings, and five scored.
The Dodgers got some excellent relief pitching from Edgardo Henriquez, Anthony Banda, and Jack Dreyer. Henriquez is going to be a weapon if he continues to have command with that 100+ MPH pitches. He is going to be tough with a 98+ cutter to go with the 100+ 4 seamer. Edgardo struck out Ryan O’Hearn on 3 pitches, the last one 103.3 4-seamer.
Edgardo Henríquez absolutely LIT UP the radar gun in tonight’s game ⛽️

Fernando Tatis Jr. worked him in the 8th with a 1-out, 8 pitch BB. That was 19 pitches, and the final pitch he would throw in this game. Anthony Banda came in with a runner at 1st and 1 out. He got Arreaz to pop out, and then struck out Machado on two electric sliders that Machado was impressed with and told Banda so.
After getting the one out save in Friday’s game, Jack Dreyer came back out on Saturday and retired the side in order on 16 pitches to end the game.
In two games, the starting pitching has gone 6.0 innings each, and allowed 1 run, a Ramón Laureano HR that hit the foul pole. The also trotted out 8 relievers (7 different pitchers) for 6.0 innings. In total they allowed 3 hits, 2 BB, and 2 HBP. It was Vesia’s 2 HBP that gave generated the one run the relievers allowed.
It is not as if the offense had gotten off the ground and lit up SD pitching. They had 9 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits and 10 BB, and one very big error. A big two out two RBI single by Michael Conforto, and two solo HR by Teoscar Hernández.
The series finale should be another nice pitching duel between Tyler Glasnow and Yu Darvish. Bring out the brooms.
MiLB GAME SUMMARY REPORTS
Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado) 7 – OKC Comets 5
Matt Sauer started for OKC and in 5.0 IP, he allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, including 2 HR accounting for 3 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 4. Michael Kopech relieved Sauer in the 6th. While not perfect, it was a big improvement over his last outing. He pitched a scoreless inning with 1 hit, 1 BB, and 2 K.
LHRP Robinson Ortiz was recently promoted to OKC. It was his 2nd promotion of the season after being promoted to Tulsa from Great Lakes. This was his 2nd game with OKC. He pitched a scoreless inning issuing 1 BB and striking out 1.
Logan Boyer and Ronan Kopp each pitched 1.0 inning allowing 1 run on 3 hits apiece. Kopp also issued a BB.
In the 1st, the Comets put together singles by CJ Alexander, Ryan Ward, and Luken Baker to plate 1 run.

Down 5-2 in the 5th, with one out, CJ Alexander doubled. Ryan Ward and Luken Baker both walked to load the bases. Alexander scored on a force out, and when the Isotopes could not turn the DP, Ward raced home for the 2nd run and reduced the lead to 1.
The Comets scored their final run in the 7th after Ryan Ward doubled and scored on a Luken Baker single.
- CJ Alexander – 2-5, 2 runs, double (17)
- Ryan Ward – 2-3, 1 BB, 2 runs, double (28)
- Luken Baker – 2-3, 1 BB, 2 RBI
- Nick Senzel – double (13)
- Esteury Ruiz – triple (2)
Tulsa Drillers 5 – San Antonio Missions (San Diego) 3
The Tulsa Drillers added another notch to their season-high winning streak on Saturday night. For the third straight game, Tulsa fell behind early to the San Antonio Missions but again recovered to earn a 5-3 win.
The win did not come easily. With one out in the ninth, the Missions had runners and first and second and the go-ahead run at the plate, but reliever Jerming Rosario induced a game-ending double play to secure the victory and his first save of the year.
The victory was the Drillers eighth consecutive win and keeps them in position to claim the final playoff spot in the Texas League North Division. The Drillers currently hold second place by four games over Northwest Arkansas, but only trail first-place Springfield by two games. If the Cardinals win the second half, the team that finishes in second place in the half claims the second playoff berth.
The Missions took an early lead in the first inning when Devin Ortiz began the game with a double and Fransico Acuna followed with a bunt that produced an error that allowed Ortiz to score.
The Drillers gained control in the bottom of the first and held the lead for the remainder of the game. They began the first with a double and two walks to load the bases. Chris Newell single produced the first run, and Nelson Quiroz’s sacrifice fly brought home a second.
Tulsa added three more runs in the third. With one out, Taylor Young was hit by a pitch and promptly stole second base. Young scored on Griffin Lockwood-Powell’s single. John Rhodes and Eduardo Guerrero each drew walks, and both scored on an RBI single from James Tibbs III to put the Drillers in front 5-1.
The first-inning run was the only blemish on starting pitcher Jackson Ferris’ line in his 22nd start of 2025. The top pitching prospect allowed one run on three hits and three walks in five innings pitched.
The night for Jackson Ferris is over, and he turned in another GREAT start!
5IP 3H 1R 5Ks 3BBWe know that when Ferris is on, it's lights out for the other team. But, what he's been doing better is getting through the tough spots and grinding out good outings even when things… pic.twitter.com/5f6IT0a1U6

Brandon Neeck was next on the mound, taking over for Ferris to begin the sixth inning. The Missions earned two runs back on Anthony Vilar’s two-run triple. Before Saturday, Neeck had not allowed a run in his last seven appearances over 7.1 innings.
The bullpen did not allow another run for the remainder of the game. Jeisson Cabrera, Kelvin Ramirez and Rosario each combined to hold the Missions scoreless over the final three innings.
In the ninth, San Antonio produced two singles, but Rosario got out of the jam with a double play to end the game.
The Drillers last won eight straight games August 16-23, 2017. Tulsa has not won nine or more consecutive games since the Drillers set their franchise record of ten straight wins May 28-June 8, 2016.
Newell reached base twice in the game to increase his on-base streak to 29 straight games.
Zach Ehrhard earned two hits and has reached safely in all 11 games he has played in since joining the Drillers on August 2.
During the eight-game winning streak, Tulsa’s pitching has not allowed a home run.
Great Lakes Loons 7 – Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee) 0
Josue De Paula rejoined the Loons tonight. And while he did not reach base, it was good to get him back.
The Loons pitched a combined 3-hit shutout with 4 pitchers. 21 year old LHSP Adam Serwinowski, started and got through 5.2 innings. In the 6th, Serwinowski walked one batter and hit another. Myles Caba relieved Adam, and gave up a single into LF. Samuel Munoz threw out the runner at the plate to end the inning and to preserve shutout.
The night is done for Adam Serwinowski
5.2IP/2H/0R/6Ks/4BBSerwinowski has been incredible since coming over to the Dodgers organization. He's given up just 1 run in his 3 outings with the Loons, and that spans 17 innings. #dodgers pic.twitter.com/VKXDS6zFkI
— Dodgers Daily (@dodger_daily) August 17, 2025
Caba went back out in the 7th and retired the side in order. Joel Ibarra pitched a scoreless 8th with a BB and 2 K. Nicolas Cruz pitched a perfect 9th to complete the shutout.
For the game, in Serwinowski’s 5.2 scoreless IP, Adam allowed 2 hits, 4 BB, and 6 K.
In the 6th inning, the Loons used 5 BB, 3 SB (2 by Kendall George), a Logan Wagner 2-run double, a WP and PB to score 4 runs. George had 3 total steals on the night, and now has 82 on the year.

In the 8th, the Loons scored another 3. Eduardo Quintero drew a leadoff BB and stole 2nd. Logan Wagner drew a 1-out BB. With 2 outs, Elijah Hainline singled to score Quintero and with a play at the plate, the catcher threw the ball away and Wagner and Hainline came all the way around to score.
Both teams had 3 hits. No Loons batter had more than 1, and Wagner’s double was the game’s only XBH.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7 – Visalia Rawhide (Arizona) 3
The Quakes earned a second straight series-win within the division, thanks to a fourth straight road win in Visalia, a 7-3 victory over the Rawhide.
Chase Harlan hit a three-run homer in the first and Emil Morales hit a three-run double in the ninth, as the Quakes rolled to a fourth win in five games of the series.
Rancho starter Jesus Tillero pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless work to start the night, but it was Shawn Oduber (4-2) who got the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
With the Quakes up 7-3 in the ninth, the Rawhide put two men on with one out against Cody Morse.
Connor Godwin was called upon and after giving up a single to load the bases, earned the final two outs while protecting the four-run lead, earning his third save of the year.
The Quakes will send Brady Smith to the mound on Sunday at 2pm, as he’ll make his Cal League debut.
- Emil Morales – 3-4, 1 HBP, 1 run, 3 RBI, double (6). Morales is now batting .317 with an OPS of .950 after joining RC.
- Jaron Elkins – 3-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, double (28)
- Chase Harlan – 2-5, 1 run, 3 RBI, double (2), HR (3)

Where is everyone this morning. No posts for hours?
Clearly this team is capable of beating anybody when those that must actually do. There is up to 2 1/2 months left in this season. With a group so susceptible to injuries can they hold it together for 50 some odd games?
1 1/2 Months Badger and only 39 games left. Math goes to hell when we get older. I had the game on my TV but was working on my computer, so I did not watch any of it. Was like the old days listening to the radio. Smith is one hell of a catcher. BA down to .306, but he still leads the league. Padres imploded and LA took advantage. That is what you are supposed to do.
I’m counting October. You’re not?
Badger might be talking through October and not September. Then again, maybe it is age. I am going with the former.
We won, so nobody has anything to complain about. Great start by Snell, relief was very good and we scored 6 runs.
I don’t think Badger was complaining. I know I did not take it that way. I do not think anybody can deny that the Dodgers are injury prone.
Yes, it’s nice when those who have nothing else to do but bitch, don’t have anything to bitch about!
Let them go to their other sports blogs and bitch about their other teams.
I watched the Rams pull one out with seconds left in the bottom of the 9th last night. That was exciting. And I look forward to the college football season as well. The more distractions I have the better I like it.
Again, Kendall George is must see tv.
John, thanks for the tip on Biggs Bque! I checked out the menu, and I think we’ll be going there pre game.
Tyler Glasnow has a chance to make a statement today. I think we all would’ve said on Friday morning that we’d be satisfied with taking 2-3 this weekend, but now we have a chance at a sweep. Glasnow can help us get that sweep.
George is on tv? I don’t think I get that channel.
Can he get in base against ML pitching?
I should say, must see laptop. The minor league games are also on the MLB.TV package.
Nice win for the Dodgers. Will Smith’s three assists on stolen base attempts in the first two innings was incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that done in the sixty five years of watching baseball. As with any successful team some luck is necessary every once in a while. Last night was one of those times. We’ll take it.
To say Snell had a great outing is very generous IMHO. He needed 96 pitches to get through only six innings. He gave up 5 hits, 2 walks, and only 3 strikeouts. Thanks to Smith he allowed no runs. It was a team effort to get six shutout innings. I’m sure the team and the BP appreciated his effort.
It was good for the BP to have a six run lead and allow them to pitch in a stress free situation for a change. It hasn’t been the case in most of their games in the past few weeks. If Henriquez can continue to control his pitches, and with the velo, he could be a valuable BP piece.
I’m watching this SD team and I’m wondering how in the hell did they overcome the Dodgers and get into first place? Their offense is OK. Their stars Machado, Merrill, and Tatis aren’t having that good of a season. Their starting pitching overall is average and even less so with King going down. The Padres big advantage is their bullpen. But, with a game like last night the Dodgers neutralized that advantage.
I thought Roberts reactions to Conforto’s two hits was over the top. I mean the guy finally gets a hit after a couple of weeks and Roberts waives his cap like Conforto had broken a record or something. On his second hit Roberts gives him a standing ovation. With that kind of admiration I guess Conforto will be with the Dodgers for the remainder of the season. I’m looking forward to another offensive outburst in the next couple of weeks. I don’t get the reasoning for Conforto still being on the team.
Carry on.
