The Giants paid Soler a $9MM signing bonus. He’s playing this season on a $7MM salary, around $2.3MM of which is still owed. Atlanta is taking on matching $13MM salaries covering the 2025-26 seasons.

So Braves are taking on around $28.3M.

I think people misunderstood me when I said “I think AF has thrown in the towel for getting impact players/needle movers”. AF already had 3 possibly 4 holes to fill before he traded. AF has more information than us about injured players. So this is my theory: AF found out Yamamoto and Muncy aren’t returning this year and so now (before he started trading) he had 5 or 6 holes to fill and he probably made the decision that it’s not worth it to use the prospect capital (gutting the farm) anymore to acquire 2 impact players/needle movers since there are 5 or 6 holes to fill. So he traded for Rosario and Edman who are both platoon players for their career, but Rosario is putting up 1 good piece of his slashline this year and that’s his BA against RHP, the type of pitchers that make him a platoon player. Next up is Kopech: His WHIP and HR/9 the last 2 years AND his career WHIP and HR/9 are all worse than league average. By the way HR’s allowed by a pitcher ESPECIALLY relief pitchers can kill you in the playoffs. So maybe I said the wrong words, but those words are clear about what I’m thinking AF has decided on, because so far he has gotten 2 players that are right around league average players and 1 that is worse than league average.

I might be wrong and tomorrow he could make a blockbuster or 2 trades for impact players/needle movers.

Just my opinion for what it’s worth.

All good analysis Bear. Today is going to be very interesting. With the addition of Kopech and Graterol, Braiser, and Grove returning the bullpen should be in good shape for the remainder of the regular season. The key is to keep the above pitchers healthy and allow Vesia, Phillips, Trienen, and Hudson a chance to catch their breath. If all that can happen then the bullpen can be a huge factor in the playoffs.

I think AF has pivoted from getting impact players/needle movers because he found out Yamamoto and Muncy are not returning this year and before he traded he had 6 holes to fill. So why gut the farm for 2 impact players/needle movers when there was 6 holes to fill before he started trading.

Then he traded for 2 league average players and 1 below league average player and an arguement can be made 2 below league average and 1 league average. To me this signals no impact players/needle movers are coming.

I hope to god nobody wants my opinions, they are worthless.

I think the front office is pretty consistent and easy to read.

Externally:
They acquire undervalued assets.
And
They acquire really high end talent

Today’s trades were for under-valued assets

Tomorrow, we will see if the price for top end talent isn’t ludicrous. I think it may given the Kikuchi deal
Im probably wrong.

One thing i KNOW is that the front office didn’t get one set of injury info and then tell Dave Roberts to lie to r press and then with this dire injury information decide to (reads Eric’s inane theory again) fill three of six ‘holes’ and call it a day.

Just stop with silly theories.

Please.

Doc says what the front office tells him to say. As for injury news, Dodgers are notoriously tight lipped. With so many on the IL, they have to be a little more transparent this year since the entire league knows they are up against a wall. So, prices for players they want are going to go UP accordingly. Trading for more league average players is not going to cut it. He needs at least one front line player. And that player will probably be a pitcher. None of the players left out there who have been mentioned, move the offensive needle much. Except for Rooker. He brings power and a lot of contact. But he also has warts since he is not a great outfielder, and he strikes out a lot. But if he gives you enough offense to score runs early, you can always replace him in the field when you are ahead. Manny Ramirez was no Jason Heyward out there.

The acquisitions of Edman and Rosario have me thinking that the Dodgers front office must be very pessimistic about Max returning this season as a productive player.
And I have to think that, after all of Gomes’ talk about landing “impact” talent, there is still something big in the works.
If a deal falls through, we could have Eduardo Rodriguez deja vu.
At any rate, Edman and Rosario should improve the bottom of the lineup, even as platoon players.
The radio chatter I heard is that Edman would likely play CF and Rosario may platoon at 2B with Lux. At any rate, the Dodgers have added two more UT guys to Taylor, Kike and Biggio. And it would be six if we count Mookie, who I think may end up shifting to CF
The Dodgers seem confident that Edman can come back strong from his injury hiatus.
Perhaps the DFA of Yarbrough means a new pitcher will arrive tomorrow.

Edman’s arrival certainly complicates my brilliant Mookie-to-CF scheme–and now Keiermaier too! But I still think it’s a decent one-year plan. And now the return of Rosario spices things up.
With Lux’s revival, I guess we are again looking at some sort of keystone mashup. Perhaps it’s Mookie-Lux-Rosario now, with Rojas moving to 3B. Or should Rosario play there?
I’ve read nothing to suggest that Rojas and Taylor won’t be coming back, but it sure seems that Max is out. (To me the issue is not whether either would be back “soon,” but in time to gear up for the playoffs.)
Still hoping the Dodgers add a big bat, but the price for pitchers seems very high. The impressive rise of Ryan and Wrobleski, plus the return of Kershaw, has me thinking the Dodgers may be OK without landing Skubal or Crochet.
Current rotation options: Glasnow, Kershaw, Stone, Ryan, Knack, Wrobleski… with Yamamoto and Bobby Miller in the wings. (I feel like I’m forgetting someone.) Anyway, that’s a lot of talent.
Hard to figure out a lineup with 6 UT options, including Mookie.

In a sellers’ market, AF brings back AmedRosario for the bargain price of OKC pitcher Michael Flynn, who was not on my radar at all. Rosario had some good moments last season, and he’s been hitting well. His speed could win a game or two.
While I was hoping Lux might start playing full-time, my guess is that Rosario is his new platoon partner.
One alignment could have Mookie at SS and Edman in CF.
I’ve assumed that Rojas’s injury isn’t severe… but maybe these acquisitions mean the front office is worried about his status as well.
Some speculation had the Dodgers acquiring Lane Thomas. But he’s going to the Guardians.
Will tomorrow bring a big arm and a big bat?
Or anticlimax?

Imagine if tomorrow morning we wake up to the surprise of Lindor and Alonso being traded to LA, with the Mets paying the rest of his salary this year and about $15 million per season for the remainder of his contract.

I know it won’t happen, but what I’m trying to say is an example that something like this could happen, it’s not something that hasn’t happened before.

Or it could be that he doesn’t make any trades, which has also happened before.

Many are expecting a big trade, some elite player, and that won’t happen, at least not this season.

No Jose Ramirez, no Nolan Arenado, no top-level and very expensive player, I think the reinforcements are coming with the names of Betts, Muncy, Stone, Brasier, Buehler, Miller, Graterol, Yamamoto, etc.

Oldbear48

Stone is already here Jorge. Miller and Buehler have not looked good at all in their rehab starts.

Scott Andes

looks like Friedman is rebuilding the bench, which is something that was sorely needed for them. With the auto outs for half the season coming off the bench due to injuries.

We know Mookie is coming back, and I’m assuming Muncy will be back at some point. If they don’t get another outfielder seems logical to have Edman in center, with Teo in left, and maybe they could move Mookie back to right field since it seems they’re more than Covered at short now with both Ahmeds (Amed) and Edman can play some short in a pinch, and Kike can play short in an emergency as well, if he’s not moved. I’m also assuming miggy ro comes back at some point too.

We have to ask ourselves and maybe Friedman and Roberts are thinking about the position that has the least amount of wear and tear on Mookie’s body, and it could be in right field. Heyward has been useless this year and would like to see him out of the starting lineup. Here’s how the playoff lineup could look if no other moves are made.

Mookie RF
Ohtani DH
Freddie 1B
Teoscar LF
Smith C
Muncy 3B
Lux 2B
Edman CF
Rosario SS

This is if they move Mookie back to right. If they keep Mookie at short then you probably have either pages or Heyward in right. Still a lot to process until tomorrow.

I think Mookie stays in the infield. He feels more in the game. He of course will go wherever they want him, but all the reps he is taking now are in the infield. Timeline for his return is about 2 1/2 weeks. Edman will not be in the lineup for at least two more weeks. He will no doubt continue his rehab, probably at OKC.

That is a very good lineup. I would only switch Smith and Muncy to keep the RH-LH order intact .

The trades raised he floor for the bench which is a good thing. Plus Edman can play CF if the Dodgers do not get a Robert jun.
I am with Bluto as far as the cost of a potential starter is concerned. The price for Kikuchi was really high. Flaherty very likely will cost even more much less a Crochet or Skubal.
Interesting the Dodgers talked to the Twins for their closer . Would prefer Tanner Scott though.
Interesting hours ahead….

I tend to believe that no one has come close to the price the Sox want for Robert Jr, who is sinking like the Titanic batting wise, or Crochet. Crochet got lit up his last start. Flaherty makes more sense. Plus, Jack has post season experience, Crochet does not. Skubal would cost a lot more than both of those guys. I still think Tanner Scott should be the main target. If you get a center fielder, Bader would be a cheaper choice. He is Pham like with his attitude and excellent on defense. Mets are still in the race though. But they could easily put Nimmo out there.

On the minor league side: The ACL Dodgers won the title yesterday. Joendry Vargas with a very strong performance in the playoffs. I think they will move him and Quintero to RC for the rest of the season. With the trade of Albertus and Perez RC is a little short on infielders anyway.

Yamamoto is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday per reports. Perhaps this lessens the need for a starter? If Yamamoto returns, and Glasnow doesn’t turn into glass, they have Kershaw and the kids. Maybe they have enough?

If Yamamoto indeed comes back I would be fine with a playoff rotation of Glasnow, Yamamoto, Stone plus any combination of Clayton/Ryan/Wrobleski .A piggy peg with those 3 guys would be a good/solid option.

I more and more lean towards bringng in Tanner Scott to be the closer.

No overnight action. Things should heat up today. Az pulled one out last night scoring 5 in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Nats, who led at one point, 6-0. Corbin Carroll hit his first walk-off homer. They did however lose Christian Walker to what was described as abdominal pain. I have an optometrist appointment this morning, but I will be back and checking the trades after that.

If the Dodgers wanted a defense first centerfielder, they could go after Kiermaier. He isn’t hitting worth spit but slip him in the 9 hole and he won’t hurt you much. And his glove is one of the best in the majors. He is retiring at the end of the season. So, he would be dirt cheap. .240 career hitter who might benefit from being surrounded by good hitters. 4 gold gloves in his career, including one last season. Weird, when I write something I show up as Michael, when I post something, I show up as Bear. Hmm

Very disappointing to read the negative comments about Mark and LADT.

its amazing how many posters are willing to
pile on, yet all seemed to visit his site every day to see what his latest Post had to offer.
To come up with new content every day for 20 plus years and have that amount of dedication takes a lot of effort and energy. His writing style was deliberately polarising but unfortunately some people were unable to see this and seemed to take affront or take it personally.

The use of the word Moron seemed to really upset people. Really!! Come on, it’s about as light as your gonna get, and of course the more people whined the more he used it. He was also right about the Dodgers far more than he was wrong.

I read there and contributed occasionally for 13 years in which time I learned so much more about the great game and enjoyed the to and fro with many of of you guys.

I would like to thank Mark for his efforts.

I gave Mark every chance in the world but the guy can’t take any criticism all…but boy oh boy he certainly loves to call posters who don’t agree with him morons any chance he gets. That didn’t necessarily bother me but what does bother me is how thin skinned he is. If you call people morons over and over at some point they are going to respond. I’ve followed his blog for years because personally I liked how it was different than a lot of the other blogs and found the commentary interesting. I have literally seen him at least 5 or 6 times do what he did just a few days ago and get in his last word and then shut the site down. Anyone else notice how he said “go ahead and trash me” then closed the comments? Classic Mark. Then a few days later he will reimurge and open the site back up and we will all go through this excersise again the next time “he can’t take morons and stupidity.” Honestly good riddance he is a little thin skinned man who loves to act tough but can’t take it when people punch back.

I am just about ready to walk out the door to the hospital for my long awaited knee replacement surgery. I will not be around when the Dodgers land Gerrit Cole and Juan Soto from NYY for 3 DSL players, so I will miss that.

I have no idea how long my initial rehab will take before I can get back to writing, but in the meantime, I have left everything in the capable hands of Bear. He has my complete confidence and support.

For those who may be reading but have not yet commented, it is probable that your initial post will be placed in moderation until someone has approved it. My understanding was that Bear had the authority to approve so please be patient and someone will get to it. The problem is that I do get a lot of spam posts that I eliminate so there has to be some initial filter.

In the interim, enjoy the final trade deadline day for 2024.

Jeff, just want to add my good wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery. As someone else has pointed out, since you don’t type with your knee, you should be back here, at least for brief comments, very quickly.

Having followed you here and at Mark’s site for a long while, I know you’re a very smart guy. One question: how in the world did you ever allow yourself to be scheduled to go to the hospital on deadline day?

Just for the record, “Deadline Day” refers to baseball trades, not knee operations.

See you back here soon. Take care.

Makes a lot of sense. Dodgers off season trades after 1958 had more to do with them winning. Chuck Essegian was picked up at the deadline. He hit two homers in the World Series. But most of their major moves came from players in their system, AKA Wills, Sherry.

Rogers would have been a good get. Undervalued. Went to Baltimore though, for Norby and Stowers. Wonder if that takes the Orioles out of a higher pedigree starter.

No interest in the high cost for Scott, the Dodgers are teeming with quality bullpen arms.

Per Feinsand a trade of Dylans!

Hearing the Nats and Cards have discussed a deal involving Dylan Carlson and Dylan Floro. Could happen in the coming hours. Carlson has no place in STL, but Nats view him as change-of-scenery candidate.

Per Heyman:
Hearing Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox are among teams with interest in Tigers top righthander Jack Flaherty

Per Bluto:
With those high returns for middling Rogers and Kikuchi, it may not be possible to meet the price for Crochet. Thus Flaherty.

If J. Turner was available to be traded to the Mariners, why weren’t the dodgers interested in his services. We need a 3B and could use his bat as well. Yeah I know he is getting older but dang he would have been every bit as useful to us as to what we are currently running out onto the field. Don’t forget he can also play 1B ( I ain’t into Biggio getting the at bats he as been getting since getting fired by the Jays for being, wait for it, a terrible hitter).

JT is hitting about 50 points better than Biggio against righties this year and about 100 points better against lefties. Granted Biggio is going to be a better third baseman these days than JT but there is no reason to have Biggio on the roster, and even less now that we have Rosario. Kike can play first base.

Flaherty I am happy about. Keirmaier was put on waivers a couple of weeks ago.

Flaherty is a difference maker at his best. Keirmaeier a pure cf who fits in with the bottom of the order. An automatic out. I don’t know where they will get all the roster spots but I assume the chess player has that figured out. You have to add Flaherty, Edman, Rosario, kiermaeier, plus Grove, Brasier, Graterol, Yamamoto, Buehler, etc. I know most are on the 40 man but the 26 man will get full quickly.

By my count they need to make room for Kopech, Rosario, Keirmaier, and Flaherty. Edman is on a rehab assignment and may be 10 days to two weeks away from being on the 26 man roster. They have already DFA’d Yarbrough. I am guessing Outman goes back to AAA once Keirmaier is active. Either Wrobleski or Ryan goes back to AAA to make room for Flaherty or Stone goes on IL with some injury (for rest). Then either Biggio or Ahmed is DFA. If they plan on using Rosario at third, I guess it would be Biggio.
AF gets Flaherty for #8 and #22 prospects while Preller gives up 5 top ten prospects for Scott (a rental) and Adams. Two different approaches though neither guarantees success. Going to be an entertaining race to end the season in the West.
For me, I favor the process that Friedman followed to improve the Dodgers at the deadline.

I doubt Pages gets sent down more likely Outman goes to OKC. Can’t send Phillips down unless he agrees to an injury or reports voluntarily. Phillips has no options left. Again the front office is going to have a ton of moves to make. I personally don’t believe that Muncy and Taylor are done for 2024. That’s why Edman,Rosario and Kiermaier were picked up.

Yusei Kikuchi and Trevor Rogers both netted significant prospects in return, and neither have the same talent as Flaherty, despite some encouraging data for the pair.
It would not be surprising to see Flaherty land at least two of a club’s top-10 prospects.”

I’m happy with what AF/BG got done at the deadline. Upgraded the rotation and the bench added a power arm to the pen. The talking heads at MLB network and MLB radio are saying what the Dodgers gave up was light in all the trades compared to what other teams were paying.

The front office is going to have fun with the roster gymnastics they have coming up. Right now they show 15 position players on the 26 man roster. The bullpen is locked in with Phillips, Trienen, Hudson,Kopech,Kelly, Honeywell, Vesia and Banda. The only one with an option left is Vesia. Once Flaherty arrives Ryan or Wroboleski will be sent down. I see a lot of DFAs in the future.

Great acquisition at a great price. Kudos to Gomes or AF or whomever made that happen.
I’m fairly shocked that the Tigers didn’t get more for Flaherty. If I was a Tigers fan, I’d expect an ML-tested pitcher back in the deal as well.
If the deal had been Flaherty for Sweeney + Liranzo + Grove, I’d still consider it a win for the Dodgers.
The Tigers could have also asked for Yarbrough off the DFA list–but he turned in Keirmeier, a great glove even if he can’t hit.
Another good move.

Not bad at all. This is one of Friedman’s best trade deadlines. I gotta admit. Good moves all around. A decent hitting centerfielder, who is also a gold glove. Another gold glove center fielder. A front line starter, a shortstop who can play other positions, and a reliever. Not a bad haul, and none of the top prospects dealt. They give up Ryan Yarbs, Miguel Vargas, and 5 low-level prospects. Color me impressed. Rebuilt bench, New center fielder, added a shortstop, a front line starter, a reliever, and another gold glove outfielder. I’m good with this.

It was a good trade deadline. Edman and Rosario bring some contact and speed to the lineup. As soon as Keirmaier steps into CF the outfield improves defensively and a Pages Heyward platoon should improve the outfield offense. Flaherty and Kopech improve the pitching staff. Good day to be a Dodger fan.

So the Dodgers get 2 defense ONLY players Kiermaier and Edman, look at Edman’s falling stats against LHP and he sucks against RHP except his rookie year and Kiermaier sucks period especially this year. Then they get a reliever who gives up a lot more than average HR’s that can kill you in the playoffs. They get a usefull platoon player against LHP Rosario and they get a good starting pitcher Flaherty. The good news is AF didn’t trade any prospects and active players that I wanted him to keep.

Kiermaier and Edman are nothing more than bench players that come in late in games for defense purposes and if Doc starts them, then Doc is doing Doc stuff, stupid stuff.

Rosario can platoon with Lux, that would be a very good platoon.

No outfield big bat was added, so what’s the plan now. Don’t tell me Kiermaier, Edman, Kike, Taylor are going to start in the outfield. Pages hits LHP good. Outman has been dicked around by Doc this year, an example of Doc doing Doc stuff, stupid stuff. Outman killed RHP last year and held his own against LHP. Don’t tell me Kiermaier, Edman, Kike, Taylor are better than Pages and Outman. So I see 3 usefull players in the outfield, one of them dicked around by Doc, who is good defensively in CF, who should get his chance to play everyday (Outman). So my preference is Teo and Outman everyday and Heyward and Pages platoon. Doc’s a veteran lover even if those veterans can’t hit (Kiermaier and Edman). So knowing Doc, the outfield might look like a bunch of misfits, including Kiermaier, Edman, Kike, Taylor. A good platoon player in Heyward and an everyday outfielder Teo. And if you put Rosario in there instead of 1 of the misfits, then you have a misfit platooning with Lux, lose lose.

Lets hope to god Muncy and Betts return, AF found a good platoon partner (Rosario) for Lux, and Freeman completes the infield at 1B.

Lets or just me, because there’s defense only people here, hope to god Doc’s plan is Teo and Outman everyday and a platoon of Heyward and Pages.

I’m still disappointed no outfield big bat was add.

I’m glad no important prospects and active players were traded (Vargas wasn’t important to me) for the misfits, plus Rosario and Flaherty and a reliever that can kill you in the playoffs by allowing HR’s

Flaherty is a VERY GOOD PICK UP, I thought all along he was a better choice than the other starting pitchers rumored to be traded INCLUDING Crochet. But NOT Tarik Skubal. But I don’t think any team would pay the price for Skubal. AF did a very good job getting Flaherty and Rosario, but he gave Doc more misfit veterans that can’t hit to play with and he’ll do it because he’s a veteran lover.

Basically, A VERY GOOD STARTING PITCHER, a good platoon partner for Lux and nothing else.

My opinion for what it’s worth.

Edman is a better defender than he is an offensive player. Granted. But he is a 99 WRC+ offensive player who has averaged 30 steals a year over the last three years and puts the ball in play. The Dodgers 7-9 hitters (Taylor, Kike, Biggio, Ahmed, Lux ) were 60 WRC+. To argue that Tommy Edman is not an improvement over what we have been running out there for 105 games is not based in fact.
If Keirmaier is a defense only player (and this year he has been) what has Outman been this year? Keirmaier and Edman are, by any metric, better in center than Pages and Outman. Pages slides to a corner spot against left handers which maximizes his strengths, offensively and defensively.
Rosario, this season, has hit over .300 against both lefties and righties. He may well platoon with Lux against right handers. Lux is a 30 WRC+ against lefties so there is definite improvement there, as you said. If Rosario plays third against right handers instead of Kike, he provides better offense at that position as well.
Kopech is not Mason Miller, Tanner Scott, or Jason Adam. We all agree. But he has some tools, namely a 99 mph fastball. Give the Dodger pitching development staff a chance to refine his tools and see what we they can do. At worst, he provides another arm to spread out innings that Hudson, Treinen, and Phillips have had to cover. At best, he becomes a weapon in high leverage innings in the post season. The truth is probably somewhere in between. He is also controlled for another year. The cost for relief pitchers was ridiculous this deadline. The Padres gave up three prospects in their top 10 for Tanner Scott, who is a rental. Would you have preferred that the Dodgers trade Ryan, Liranzo, and Wrobleski for Tanner Scott?
Neither of us know if these deals will result in the Dodgers winning a title. In fact, if they don’t, these deals won’t likely be the reason they don’t.

if you had a good rookie year killing RHP and you’re only flaw against LHP was power and were number three in the rookie of the year award and the next year right off the bat, you were platooned with none other than Kike that no team wanted except the Dodgers and sat some games that RHP started on a loaded team before the injuries happened, think about it.

Now he’s being replaced with a defense only player that’s retiring after this season and there’s nothing wrong with Outman’s defense.

No defense is important it’s not the only thing. But by every measure this year Kiermaier has been better than Outman. That’s not saying a lot but he has been better. Outman should be in OKC and will be in the next couple of days. As far as defense goes preventing runs is kind of important. I would be thrilled if AF could have picked up a center fielder that hit .350 with a .600 slugging percentage but that doesn’t exist. Also Rooker would have made the team even weaker defensively. He would be in left Teoscar in right and a platoon of Pages/Heyward in center. You can’t just look at stats and forget about defense. All you have to do is watch the White Sox play a couple of games and see what bad defense gets you.

Lux was treated similarly, and Lux has more talent and had a higher pedigree.

Defense stats are flawed first of all, but I’ll go with your defense stuff. Take the runs produced by Outman last year subtract the runs saved by.Keirmaier and you’ll find out who is more valuable.

I’m not talking about last year last year is gone. This year Kiermaier is better than Outman. This is a results oriented game and Outman’s results are worse this year than Kiermaier. Obviously the Dodgers consider Outman to be a 5th or 6th outfielder at best. No matter how much you want him to be successful this year he hasn’t been. It’s no one’s fault except Outmans for not performing. You can try to blame Doc but Outman was not hitting what else was he supposed to do. This is going to be a non issue in a couple of days when Outman is in OKC.

You didn’t even hear me the other guy’s career stats suck and the last time he did as good as Outman’s offensive stats last year was 2017 and he’s barely better than Outman this year. Give Outman more at bats this year and I guarantee you 100% that Outman will out hit Kiermiaer and there’s nothing wrong with Outman’s defense. This is what always happens when I go back-and-forth with a defense only person. Just ignore what Outman did last year and just ignore the other guys career hitting stats and point out the little bit of better hitting from the other guy this year and point to defense stats that are flawed, Nice case you made

You’re right to ignore last year because it has nothing to do with this year. Outman has been horrible at the plate this year. Kiermaier has been less horrible this year. This is a waste of time you want Outman to succeed so bad so you can say you were right about him it’s ridiculous. Outman is going to OKC maybe next year he performs like he did last year but it’s not happening this year.

I didn’t pick up on something you said in your post until now.

“you want Outman to succeed so bad so you can say you were right about him it’s ridiculous.”

No, it’s called upside, something Outman has and Kiermaier doesn’t. Since you’re a defense only guy, you might’ve not heard of the term upside. Have you ever heard of upside?
Like I said, give Outman and Kiermaier consistent at bats and I guarantee you Outman will hit better than Kiermaier and there’s nothing wrong with Outman’s defense. That’s called better for the team, it’s not called “being right”.

I’m cautiously thinking about possibly joining the very last car in the Cavan Biggio caravan.

Maybe.

What kind of grade does the front office deserve for these trades?
Well, I’m impressed. I’ll going with A-minus.
Not an A+ because I don’t see Rosario, Edman or Keirmeier as an “impact bat.” But perhaps the price tags were too high for Robert and Rooker. No other contender got them–or Skubal or Crochet either–so they can’t hurt the Dodgers down the road.
Flaherty is the biggest addition–and it’s surprising that the Tigers didn’t get more for him, considering the price other rental arms (Estevez, Kikuchi, Tanner Scott) commanded. If I was a Tigers fan, I’d be seriously pissed.
All considered, I’m glad the Dodgers didn’t get Scott. A terrific RP, but the Pads just paid too much. I think he was worth an overpay, however; perhaps the Dodgers’ bid pushed the Padres to offer too much. (Who knows?) If the Dodgers need another lefty for the pen in the playoffs, perhaps Wrobleski will get the call.

Of all the players the Dodgers gave up, I think Liranzo might have the brightest future–but he’s still years away from the majors. The Dodgers kept fellow prospect catchers Rushing and Cartaya, and a few others.
It will be interesting to see how Roberts uses his new weapons.
While Luis Robert or Rooker would be interesting, Mookie should be back in a few weeks.
Who would play 3B if Max can’t make it back? The options now include Edman and Rosario.

Reports are that the Yankees dropped out of the Flahrety bidding because of concerns over the pitcher’s back.

I saw that too. That might explain why we got the “bargain” this seems to be. I just glanced at the story, but I took it to say that there was actually a trade in place and then the Yankees backed out. In other words, if the medicals had satisfied them Flaherty would be a Yankee tonight.

Rosenthal goes on to say:
And Harris (Detroit GM) said he was pleased to bring Liranzo and Sweeney into the Tigers organization, even though a Flaherty with a cleaner recent medical history might have brought more.

Lux not ready for full time role.

Treinen has been bad I said it last week. He has no business being in the save role. He has one pitch a slider so he throws machado a first pitch fastball. Just dumb!!

Compared to what Treinen used to have years ago, his FB velo is down, and it just doesn’t have life on the tail end anymore.
