A lot of rumors still circulating. One says the Dodgers are interested in Luis Rengifo. I find that a little weird since they have 3 of those guys already. Sox unlikely to move Robert Jr. by the deadline unless they are totally blown away with an offer. But his .210/.282/.440 is not all that attractive to teams. His OPS+ is just league average now. 12 homers 24 driven in is not great either.
Moreno supposedly dislikes trading with the Dodgers. Not sure why Rengifo would change that.
Agreed. Arte really does not like us much.
DC is beating the D-Backs so far tonight, if they lose, the Dodgers gain one-half game on them in the standings. Edman for sure will not get his Cardinal number with LA. #19 is retired for Jim Gilliam. Whoops, Arizona scored 5 in the bottom of the 9th to win.
Starting pitcher has to be next, even though I’d prefer a 3B.
I would think there are a lot of teams approaching the Dodgers about Ryan, Wrobleski, Knack, etc
Probably, and they have not traded anyone in their top tier of players. I doubt they trade Ryan at this point. Guy has great stuff and a lot of moxie.
Knack okay….Ryan and Wrobleski no unless it is one in a deal for Skubal that does not involve Josue…
Soler back to Bravos Snell next ?
Jackson is a former Brave too. Snell to LA, ok by me. Dodgers kicked the tires with the Twins about their closer, Jhoan Duran, but Minn wanted MLB ready talent and the Dodgers want to trade prospects.
Atlanta gets DH Jorge Soler and RHRP Luke Jackson with LHRP Tyler Matzek and MiLB 3B/OF Sabin Ceballos going back to SFG.
Braves eating A ton of salary
The Giants paid Soler a $9MM signing bonus. He’s playing this season on a $7MM salary, around $2.3MM of which is still owed. Atlanta is taking on matching $13MM salaries covering the 2025-26 seasons.
So Braves are taking on around $28.3M.
Might as well
Given the Kikuchi return, I’m dreading what the Dodgers will have to give up, but….
What are you gonna do? Hopefully the front office are good salesmen.
I think people misunderstood me when I said “I think AF has thrown in the towel for getting impact players/needle movers”. AF already had 3 possibly 4 holes to fill before he traded. AF has more information than us about injured players. So this is my theory: AF found out Yamamoto and Muncy aren’t returning this year and so now (before he started trading) he had 5 or 6 holes to fill and he probably made the decision that it’s not worth it to use the prospect capital (gutting the farm) anymore to acquire 2 impact players/needle movers since there are 5 or 6 holes to fill. So he traded for Rosario and Edman who are both platoon players for their career, but Rosario is putting up 1 good piece of his slashline this year and that’s his BA against RHP, the type of pitchers that make him a platoon player. Next up is Kopech: His WHIP and HR/9 the last 2 years AND his career WHIP and HR/9 are all worse than league average. By the way HR’s allowed by a pitcher ESPECIALLY relief pitchers can kill you in the playoffs. So maybe I said the wrong words, but those words are clear about what I’m thinking AF has decided on, because so far he has gotten 2 players that are right around league average players and 1 that is worse than league average.
I might be wrong and tomorrow he could make a blockbuster or 2 trades for impact players/needle movers.
Just my opinion for what it’s worth.
Oh yeah i’m talking about the playoffs only. These new players might help in the regular season to get to the playoffs, but they are not needle movers in the playoffs.
I read that twice, I’m not sure what you think or expect
I think AF has pivoted from getting impact players/needle movers because he found out Yamamoto and Muncy are not returning this year and before he traded he had 6 holes to fill. So why gut the farm for 2 impact players/needle movers when there was 6 holes to fill before he started trading.
Then he traded for 2 league average players and 1 below league average player and an arguement can be made 2 below league average and 1 league average. To me this signals no impact players/needle movers are coming.
Think you are wrong. I doubt seriously that they feel great about the roster as it stands. I believe at least one more major trade will happen. If I am wrong, well, I am wrong.
This is just nonsense.
Stop it.
Then Bluto what do you think about the trades AF has done? And do you think AF is going to get any impact players/needle movers? I ask because I don’t think I’ve ever heard an opinion from you, it’s just 1 or 2 sentences criticizing others.
I hope to god nobody wants my opinions, they are worthless.
I think the front office is pretty consistent and easy to read.
Externally:
They acquire undervalued assets.
And
They acquire really high end talent
Today’s trades were for under-valued assets
Tomorrow, we will see if the price for top end talent isn’t ludicrous. I think it may given the Kikuchi deal
Im probably wrong.
One thing i KNOW is that the front office didn’t get one set of injury info and then tell Dave Roberts to lie to r press and then with this dire injury information decide to (reads Eric’s inane theory again) fill three of six ‘holes’ and call it a day.
Just stop with silly theories.
Please.
I’m glad you gave your opinion and I respect it.
But keep in mind Doc has said stuff on many occasions that turned out to be wrong.
And I didn’t say AF is calling it a day. He might trade for more league average players.
I should have said AF might trade for more players that are not impact players/needle movers.
Doc says what the front office tells him to say. As for injury news, Dodgers are notoriously tight lipped. With so many on the IL, they have to be a little more transparent this year since the entire league knows they are up against a wall. So, prices for players they want are going to go UP accordingly. Trading for more league average players is not going to cut it. He needs at least one front line player. And that player will probably be a pitcher. None of the players left out there who have been mentioned, move the offensive needle much. Except for Rooker. He brings power and a lot of contact. But he also has warts since he is not a great outfielder, and he strikes out a lot. But if he gives you enough offense to score runs early, you can always replace him in the field when you are ahead. Manny Ramirez was no Jason Heyward out there.
I think you are wrong about Yamamoto not coming back. If he wasn’t, they would not be letting him do long toss at all, they would just shut him down. He has been throwing for the last couple of weeks. And he reports no pain. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen on August 2nd. As for Muncy, oblique injuries are really hard to judge. He has been running and taking ground balls. Roberts says his recovery at this point is stagnant. Meaning he has not advanced much beyond taking grounders and running. They got Kopech because they see something we don’t. Maybe an adjustment they feel will make him more effective. He has a blazing fastball. I think they would trade top prospects; indeed, they could not hook up with the Twins for their closer, Duran, because Minnesota wanted MLB ready players. Both Edman and Rosario are multi-positional players. Both can play infield and outfield. Rosario is hitting .312. If Buehler and Miller can find some control and fix those problems, they could be back also. But Grove, Graterol and Brasier should all be back very quickly.
All good analysis Bear. Today is going to be very interesting. With the addition of Kopech and Graterol, Braiser, and Grove returning the bullpen should be in good shape for the remainder of the regular season. The key is to keep the above pitchers healthy and allow Vesia, Phillips, Trienen, and Hudson a chance to catch their breath. If all that can happen then the bullpen can be a huge factor in the playoffs.
Joc Pederson is hitting .290 with an OPS above .800, 15 bombs. Would love his bat off of the bench, but he does not play in the outfield much anymore. Besides, no way Az would trade him back to the Dodgers.
So many dingbats from the other board are posting here now
I heard the fish are biting, might be an option for you.
Bluto, we are all basically dingbats. None of us has the full picture. Allow folks their fantasy’s.
You’re so welcoming Bluto! Maybe the less aggressive tone here will rub off on them. Give peace a chance….
John Lennon, forget the year!
1969
Ahh, thank you. I was at Ft. Bliss, about to be posted to Germany.
The acquisitions of Edman and Rosario have me thinking that the Dodgers front office must be very pessimistic about Max returning this season as a productive player.
And I have to think that, after all of Gomes’ talk about landing “impact” talent, there is still something big in the works.
If a deal falls through, we could have Eduardo Rodriguez deja vu.
At any rate, Edman and Rosario should improve the bottom of the lineup, even as platoon players.
The radio chatter I heard is that Edman would likely play CF and Rosario may platoon at 2B with Lux. At any rate, the Dodgers have added two more UT guys to Taylor, Kike and Biggio. And it would be six if we count Mookie, who I think may end up shifting to CF
The Dodgers seem confident that Edman can come back strong from his injury hiatus.
Perhaps the DFA of Yarbrough means a new pitcher will arrive tomorrow.
Duke, I do not think there is a chance in hell Mookie returns to the outfield, especially not center. I would bet he will be back at SS. Taylor is not coming back anytime soon. Neither is Rojas. I think Nick Ahmed and Biggio are expendable. I think they are really trying to get an outfielder who can hit. Might be someone we have no clue about. I know everyone wants Robert Jr, but he is not the answer this year. There have been surprises all over the place today. Tomorrow will probably not be any different. Who would have thought the Braves would get Soler again and eat that huge contract he just signed.
Edman’s arrival certainly complicates my brilliant Mookie-to-CF scheme–and now Keiermaier too! But I still think it’s a decent one-year plan. And now the return of Rosario spices things up.
With Lux’s revival, I guess we are again looking at some sort of keystone mashup. Perhaps it’s Mookie-Lux-Rosario now, with Rojas moving to 3B. Or should Rosario play there?
I’ve read nothing to suggest that Rojas and Taylor won’t be coming back, but it sure seems that Max is out. (To me the issue is not whether either would be back “soon,” but in time to gear up for the playoffs.)
Still hoping the Dodgers add a big bat, but the price for pitchers seems very high. The impressive rise of Ryan and Wrobleski, plus the return of Kershaw, has me thinking the Dodgers may be OK without landing Skubal or Crochet.
Current rotation options: Glasnow, Kershaw, Stone, Ryan, Knack, Wrobleski… with Yamamoto and Bobby Miller in the wings. (I feel like I’m forgetting someone.) Anyway, that’s a lot of talent.
Hard to figure out a lineup with 6 UT options, including Mookie.
In a sellers’ market, AF brings back AmedRosario for the bargain price of OKC pitcher Michael Flynn, who was not on my radar at all. Rosario had some good moments last season, and he’s been hitting well. His speed could win a game or two.
While I was hoping Lux might start playing full-time, my guess is that Rosario is his new platoon partner.
One alignment could have Mookie at SS and Edman in CF.
I’ve assumed that Rojas’s injury isn’t severe… but maybe these acquisitions mean the front office is worried about his status as well.
Some speculation had the Dodgers acquiring Lane Thomas. But he’s going to the Guardians.
Will tomorrow bring a big arm and a big bat?
Or anticlimax?
Is there a chance Lux may be traded tonight or tomorrow morning for a third Baseman
It would make a modicum of sense given his value is rising.
There is a chance most anyone on the roster not named, Ohtani, Freeman, Smith, Teo, Glasnow, Kershaw, could be traded. I do not see any other untouchables.
Imagine if tomorrow morning we wake up to the surprise of Lindor and Alonso being traded to LA, with the Mets paying the rest of his salary this year and about $15 million per season for the remainder of his contract.
I know it won’t happen, but what I’m trying to say is an example that something like this could happen, it’s not something that hasn’t happened before.
Or it could be that he doesn’t make any trades, which has also happened before.
Many are expecting a big trade, some elite player, and that won’t happen, at least not this season.
No Jose Ramirez, no Nolan Arenado, no top-level and very expensive player, I think the reinforcements are coming with the names of Betts, Muncy, Stone, Brasier, Buehler, Miller, Graterol, Yamamoto, etc.
Stone is already here Jorge. Miller and Buehler have not looked good at all in their rehab starts.
looks like Friedman is rebuilding the bench, which is something that was sorely needed for them. With the auto outs for half the season coming off the bench due to injuries.
We know Mookie is coming back, and I’m assuming Muncy will be back at some point. If they don’t get another outfielder seems logical to have Edman in center, with Teo in left, and maybe they could move Mookie back to right field since it seems they’re more than Covered at short now with both Ahmeds (Amed) and Edman can play some short in a pinch, and Kike can play short in an emergency as well, if he’s not moved. I’m also assuming miggy ro comes back at some point too.
We have to ask ourselves and maybe Friedman and Roberts are thinking about the position that has the least amount of wear and tear on Mookie’s body, and it could be in right field. Heyward has been useless this year and would like to see him out of the starting lineup. Here’s how the playoff lineup could look if no other moves are made.
Mookie RF
Ohtani DH
Freddie 1B
Teoscar LF
Smith C
Muncy 3B
Lux 2B
Edman CF
Rosario SS
This is if they move Mookie back to right. If they keep Mookie at short then you probably have either pages or Heyward in right. Still a lot to process until tomorrow.
That is a very good lineup. I would only switch Smith and Muncy to keep the RH-LH order intact .
If we get Flaherty we would be pretty much set. Or get another shutdown arm for the pen like Tanner Scott if Yamamoto can come back in time
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Mookie stays in the infield. He feels more in the game. He of course will go wherever they want him, but all the reps he is taking now are in the infield. Timeline for his return is about 2 1/2 weeks. Edman will not be in the lineup for at least two more weeks. He will no doubt continue his rehab, probably at OKC.
Unfortunately, Max may not be back. His recovery has been slooow.
So perhaps Rosario takes over 3B.
The additions increase the likelihood of platoons.
The trades raised he floor for the bench which is a good thing. Plus Edman can play CF if the Dodgers do not get a Robert jun.
I am with Bluto as far as the cost of a potential starter is concerned. The price for Kikuchi was really high. Flaherty very likely will cost even more much less a Crochet or Skubal.
Interesting the Dodgers talked to the Twins for their closer . Would prefer Tanner Scott though.
Interesting hours ahead….
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!
I tend to believe that no one has come close to the price the Sox want for Robert Jr, who is sinking like the Titanic batting wise, or Crochet. Crochet got lit up his last start. Flaherty makes more sense. Plus, Jack has post season experience, Crochet does not. Skubal would cost a lot more than both of those guys. I still think Tanner Scott should be the main target. If you get a center fielder, Bader would be a cheaper choice. He is Pham like with his attitude and excellent on defense. Mets are still in the race though. But they could easily put Nimmo out there.
On the minor league side: The ACL Dodgers won the title yesterday. Joendry Vargas with a very strong performance in the playoffs. I think they will move him and Quintero to RC for the rest of the season. With the trade of Albertus and Perez RC is a little short on infielders anyway.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yamamoto is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday per reports. Perhaps this lessens the need for a starter? If Yamamoto returns, and Glasnow doesn’t turn into glass, they have Kershaw and the kids. Maybe they have enough?
If Yamamoto indeed comes back I would be fine with a playoff rotation of Glasnow, Yamamoto, Stone plus any combination of Clayton/Ryan/Wrobleski .A piggy peg with those 3 guys would be a good/solid option.
I more and more lean towards bringng in Tanner Scott to be the closer.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!
They are talking late August for Yoshi. Having him down the stretch and pitching like he did at the beginning of the year would be huge.
No overnight action. Things should heat up today. Az pulled one out last night scoring 5 in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Nats, who led at one point, 6-0. Corbin Carroll hit his first walk-off homer. They did however lose Christian Walker to what was described as abdominal pain. I have an optometrist appointment this morning, but I will be back and checking the trades after that.
If the Dodgers wanted a defense first centerfielder, they could go after Kiermaier. He isn’t hitting worth spit but slip him in the 9 hole and he won’t hurt you much. And his glove is one of the best in the majors. He is retiring at the end of the season. So, he would be dirt cheap. .240 career hitter who might benefit from being surrounded by good hitters. 4 gold gloves in his career, including one last season. Weird, when I write something I show up as Michael, when I post something, I show up as Bear. Hmm
No word yet on when Freeman will return. His three days for family emergency are up today, I think.
Family emergency leave is 3-7 days….just has to be a minumum of 3 days.
Thanks Kevin.
Very disappointing to read the negative comments about Mark and LADT.
its amazing how many posters are willing to
pile on, yet all seemed to visit his site every day to see what his latest Post had to offer.
To come up with new content every day for 20 plus years and have that amount of dedication takes a lot of effort and energy. His writing style was deliberately polarising but unfortunately some people were unable to see this and seemed to take affront or take it personally.
The use of the word Moron seemed to really upset people. Really!! Come on, it’s about as light as your gonna get, and of course the more people whined the more he used it. He was also right about the Dodgers far more than he was wrong.
I read there and contributed occasionally for 13 years in which time I learned so much more about the great game and enjoyed the to and fro with many of of you guys.
I would like to thank Mark for his efforts.
cheers
My impression was that Mark is/was a little thinskinned . He liked to dish it out but had his trouble taking it too. his parting shot at Jeff and his blog was totally unnessary and uncalled for IMHO.
And this constant shutting down the blog, opening up again, shutting it down was a bit of kindergarden . I liked his blog a lot and will miss it, but again IMHO it might be best if he shuts it down for good.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For what it’s worth there were a lot of people who said positive thoughts about Mark’s blog. It wasn’t all negative. I enjoyed his site and perspective. I read both sites and contributed some on both. Turning it off and on though gets old.
Exactly. I like Mark, but I sometimes think he takes some comments just a little too seriously. I am guilty of that myself many times. I also have missed the sarcasm in some posts.
Jeff and I both know how much energy it takes to write. And it was Marks choice to do it by himself. I contributed to his site for well over two years. People have thin skins sometimes. I had a problem with Mark a long time ago on Scott’s site, but we settled all of that and I began posting, and then writing for him. We met twice and he is a very knowledgeable man. Mark is who he is. If I were to say one thing, he might have done differently is not respond to every comment he thought inane or just too out there. I understand he does not care for some of the posters over there, and they were the ones who usually pushed just the right button. I always told Mark I appreciated him keeping the site running. But you know, the man built his business up from the ground, has just moved into a new house, and basically has retired from his business, so he should be allowed to enjoy his time as he sees fit. And if that includes not writing about baseball every day, well so be it. As for chiding the ones who said negative things, that is the way things are on blogs. If you are sitting behind a computer screen, you do not have to face your antagonist face to face. The Dodgers site once had a comments section. Almost like a blog. There were a lot of trolls on there and things got so testy, the Dodgers shut it down. Unless the administrator of the site polices it some, it can really get out of hand and ruin the site. Mark did a pretty good job of policing, and he banned some, but he did not like doing that. Their posts just got so out of hand, he had to do something. When I was there, I had the ability to delete stuff. Usually, it was the political stuff that got trashed. Most of the posters here are solid fans, and good people. But like they say, one bad apple can screw up the whole barrel.
I gave Mark every chance in the world but the guy can’t take any criticism all…but boy oh boy he certainly loves to call posters who don’t agree with him morons any chance he gets. That didn’t necessarily bother me but what does bother me is how thin skinned he is. If you call people morons over and over at some point they are going to respond. I’ve followed his blog for years because personally I liked how it was different than a lot of the other blogs and found the commentary interesting. I have literally seen him at least 5 or 6 times do what he did just a few days ago and get in his last word and then shut the site down. Anyone else notice how he said “go ahead and trash me” then closed the comments? Classic Mark. Then a few days later he will reimurge and open the site back up and we will all go through this excersise again the next time “he can’t take morons and stupidity.” Honestly good riddance he is a little thin skinned man who loves to act tough but can’t take it when people punch back.
Spot on Watford!!! Thanks for posting it!!!
I agree; I thank Mark for LADT becuase it enhanced my knowledge of and enjoyment of following Dodger baseball. I am hoping to continue it here…
LADT was a very engaging site, and I thank Mark for that. I truly appreciated his efforts, and I wouldn’t have found Jeff’s excellent site without LADT. (I forgot how I stumbled upon it –but I’m glad that I did.)
MLBTR is predicting Crochet will be moved before the deadline, but they feel Robert Jr will not. Dodgers, Padres, Braves, Phillies, Red Sox and Orioles seem to be the teams with the most interest. Yankees told they do not match up for a deal, so they seemed to have pivoted to Flaherty. I think Flaherty would be a better option than sending maybe 3 top ten prospects to the Sox for a guy who demanded an extension before he would pitch in the playoffs.
I am just about ready to walk out the door to the hospital for my long awaited knee replacement surgery. I will not be around when the Dodgers land Gerrit Cole and Juan Soto from NYY for 3 DSL players, so I will miss that.
I have no idea how long my initial rehab will take before I can get back to writing, but in the meantime, I have left everything in the capable hands of Bear. He has my complete confidence and support.
For those who may be reading but have not yet commented, it is probable that your initial post will be placed in moderation until someone has approved it. My understanding was that Bear had the authority to approve so please be patient and someone will get to it. The problem is that I do get a lot of spam posts that I eliminate so there has to be some initial filter.
In the interim, enjoy the final trade deadline day for 2024.
Jeff, I indeed have that capability and have used it. Guys, I check the dashboard pretty regularly, so have no worries, your posts will not be in moderation long. Jeff, get well as soon as you can, I have your six.
All the best to you, Jeff.
Hi Jeff,
Hopefully everything will go routinely as this kind of surgery and rehab has been done successfully for many years. Since you don’t write with your knees, you should be able to be back here, time willing, very quickly. Be nice to the therapists and do everything they tell you. PT is as important as the surgery.
Wishing you the best.
All the best Jeff. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
All the best wishes to you for a successful knee replacement surgery. My mother in law had two of them at age 79 and 81. Rehab is very important.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!
Good luck Jeff
Best wishes.
Hope it goes well.
Modern medicine is amazing.
Get well soon Jeff.
Will be interesting to see who gets the trades posted first. X or MLBTR. On the internet at least. We all know MLB.TV will be following every move as it happens.
Just read that Taillon has a 10-team no trade clause in his contract that he signed in 22 for four years. He said the Cubs had not contacted him concerning any trades.
Red Sox Could Add Right-Handed Middle Infielder….
Pick one, Dodgers have plenty, it looks like a buffet of middle infielders
They can have one, if we get Duran in return! 😋 😋 😎
Prediction: we will make two trades today, one for an OF and one for a SP. The second one will be major and announced right after the buzzer. And it will cost a prospect fortune.
Still worried about/interested to see the impact of the outsized Kikuchi trade
Agree. That was a pretty hefty price the Astros paid for him.
I think that crosses off Skubal and probably Crochet too. Would cost a kings ransom and I do not think AF will pay that price.
Go Dodgers!!!
Any thoughts on the prospects we gave up to acquire Edman and Kopech?
Both Perez and Albertus were up and comers. But still both lottery tickets at that stage of their careers.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent rookie-level prospects. Possibly 4-5 years away if all goes well.
Jeff, just want to add my good wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery. As someone else has pointed out, since you don’t type with your knee, you should be back here, at least for brief comments, very quickly.
Having followed you here and at Mark’s site for a long while, I know you’re a very smart guy. One question: how in the world did you ever allow yourself to be scheduled to go to the hospital on deadline day?
Just for the record, “Deadline Day” refers to baseball trades, not knee operations.
See you back here soon. Take care.
Thoughts on this?
https://x.com/PaulHembo/status/1818320605344595984
Makes a lot of sense. Dodgers off season trades after 1958 had more to do with them winning. Chuck Essegian was picked up at the deadline. He hit two homers in the World Series. But most of their major moves came from players in their system, AKA Wills, Sherry.
Do the Dodgers have any shot at getting Rengifo? Tyler Anderson anyone?
No..don’t need Rengifo after yesterdays deals. AF will get difference maker or not
They discussed him earlier, but getting both Edman, who it seems will be plugged into center field, and Rosario, means they already have 3 players on the active roster with that kind of resume. Anderson I would think is not coming back to LA. Like I have said before. Moreno does not like to trade with LA. Have not struck a deal since the Pederson – Rengifo trade fell through before the 2020 season.
LA reportedly in on Tanner Scott. Also have an interest in Trevor Rogers. Marlins reportedly, per MLBTR, close to a trade for Rogers.
Tanner Scott would be HUGE for the Dodgers!!!!!!
A bona fide closer is one of the most important parts of a championship team.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also with the way we’ve been ditching LHPs . . .
I can definitely see it
Think about it: in a postseason series, a reliever can pitch about five innings, as many as a starter over that span.
PER PASSAN:
Rogers would have been a good get. Undervalued. Went to Baltimore though, for Norby and Stowers. Wonder if that takes the Orioles out of a higher pedigree starter.
No interest in the high cost for Scott, the Dodgers are teeming with quality bullpen arms.
Rogers just went to the O’s
I have no issues if we have 8-9 crazy power arms ready to come out from the bullpen in October.
Good trade for the Marlins Norby and Stowers probably start tomorrow. They still have young arms that just need to get healthy and they’re competitive again.
What would you be willing to trade for Scott? Orioles traded for Rogers so they may not be in on Scott anymore.
Knack straight up. Maybe an overpay for a rental but Dodgers should be all in.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Per Feinsand a trade of Dylans!
Hearing the Nats and Cards have discussed a deal involving Dylan Carlson and Dylan Floro. Could happen in the coming hours. Carlson has no place in STL, but Nats view him as change-of-scenery candidate.
Per Heyman:
Hearing Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox are among teams with interest in Tigers top righthander Jack Flaherty
Per Bluto:
With those high returns for middling Rogers and Kikuchi, it may not be possible to meet the price for Crochet. Thus Flaherty.
IMHO: No half hearted approach. If you want to go all in , go all in.
Flahertiy is a solid pickup, but no difference maker.
Go Crochet if you think he will put you over the top. stay put if not. Flaherty very likely willl not make the difference and still will cost a fortune in prospects.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!1
There is no “over the top”.
The Dodgers won 111 and didn’t go over the top.
You know whatI I mean with over the top.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m sorry.
My response was trite and catty.
What I meant was if there’s barely a marginal difference between Flahrety and Crochet, with Crochet being better.
Why not pay less?
The Dodgers got the Ahmeds (Amed) this year too. 😆
If J. Turner was available to be traded to the Mariners, why weren’t the dodgers interested in his services. We need a 3B and could use his bat as well. Yeah I know he is getting older but dang he would have been every bit as useful to us as to what we are currently running out onto the field. Don’t forget he can also play 1B ( I ain’t into Biggio getting the at bats he as been getting since getting fired by the Jays for being, wait for it, a terrible hitter).
JT is 39 years old. He mostly was used as the DH for Toronto. He has played 5 games at third this year and frankly, he was pretty bad. He is only hitting .257 with 6 homers. Biggio hits left-handed. Since Muncy went down they have been RH heavy. His time in LA has passed. He has only played 17 games in the field this year for a reason, and the reason is, he just cannot do it on defense anymore.
I’m not saying we should have gone after JT but who cares if Biggio hits left handed. Basically he doesn’t hit, period.
JT is hitting about 50 points better than Biggio against righties this year and about 100 points better against lefties. Granted Biggio is going to be a better third baseman these days than JT but there is no reason to have Biggio on the roster, and even less now that we have Rosario. Kike can play first base.
Obviously Blue, the Dodgers did. JT doesn’t play the field at all. There is no place for him on the roster. Biggio will be gone soon.
Don’t forget he’s old, he doesn’t play 3B and barely hits.
But other than that, interesting idea.
Yeah Bluto, as much as we all loved JT, I think Bears right on this one
Teams have contacted the Yankees about Alex Verdugo. With the trade for Chisholm, Verdugo is expendable. After a hot start, he has cooled off considerably. He would be a pure rental.
I’m hoping they can do better than that
Anything the Dodgers do will probably come down to 5pm. Sometimes deals aren’t reported until after the deadline. They could negotiate until the time is complete.
Tanner Scott is on his way to San Diego
1.5 hours left……crickets coming from Chavez Ravine. What is AF going to do?
Per ESPN:
The Marlins’ return for Tanner Scott, per source: Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur, INF Graham Pauley and INF Jay Beshears.
Per Fangraphs: Snelling was 5th ranked prospect in minors, Mazur 7th. Pauley 13 and Beshears a 6th rounder from 2023
Andrew Friedman spoke with The Athletic’s Fabian Ardayaabout the trade market:
Bryan de la Cruz was OF bat I wanted..ugh pirates go 4 it !!
I’ve said it for a couple of years now, but I wonder if there just isn’t anyone willing to make the Dodgers better and they won’t trade with us. I realize the Padres will give up anyone to trade, but the DB’s seem to work nice deals as well. The NL West looks like it’s going to come down to last man standing. How about that SD bullpen, better get to them early.
Passan says we’re getting Flaherty
Crochet not being traded
Yarbs for Kiermeyer
Very nice pickup! Waiting for what the dodgers gave up. Maybe Pages because of Kiermeir addition?
Nope, Liranzo and Sweeney.
Kiermeir to the Dodgers for Yarborough. Underwhelming, feels a lot like Joey Gallo part 2.
Got him for his defense. He is a better contact hitter than Gallo and a gold glove defender.
Flaherty to the dodgers. NICE!
Paint me surprised
Bear, you called it on Keirmeier
I said it too. I want all the credit…
JK lol
Ok, Scott you called it to, I don’t want to short change anyone’s brilliance😀
Don’t poke the Bear Scott.
lolz
Dionysus said way earlier in today’s comments:
Prediction: 2 Trades today. Dodgers would get an OF and a SP, with the second one at the buzzer. He should win the prize!
the Dodgers got Kiermaier! They listened to me!
I mentioned him too the other day. Great defensive player. Can get some hits for you and is a pure rental who is retiring after the season ends.
I don’t know anything about him except he’s batting .195 with very little production. I know this fits in nicely with Taylor, Kike, Outman, Vargas (traded) and perhaps others soon to join this group….happily can’t say Lux any longer now that he is mashing.
please tell me, other than his good glove, why this guy would even start a game for us? Is he that much better than the guys we already have in the OF? Thanks- TM
Nightengale says we sent Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney to Det for Flaherty.
Wow, that’s it????
The Dodgers are sending prospects Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney to the Tigers for Jack Flaherty.
@Passan
The Dodgers front office is soooooo good
nice deal. Nicely done
I can’t believe that’s all they gave up for him
Yep, that is all they gave up.
Flaherty I am happy about. Keirmaier was put on waivers a couple of weeks ago.
Flaherty is a difference maker at his best. Keirmaeier a pure cf who fits in with the bottom of the order. An automatic out. I don’t know where they will get all the roster spots but I assume the chess player has that figured out. You have to add Flaherty, Edman, Rosario, kiermaeier, plus Grove, Brasier, Graterol, Yamamoto, Buehler, etc. I know most are on the 40 man but the 26 man will get full quickly.
Edman does not have to be activated for about 2 weeks; he is still rehabbing. Kiermaier is a career .240 hitter. So, he is not an automatic out. What he is is a pure defensive class A centerfielder. Dodgers haven’t had a guy like that since Cody left. Biggio will be gone, one of the kids will go back to AAA. Rosario, Edman are already on the 40 man as is Kopech.
“What will Jack Flaherty cost in a trade?Considering the trades that have already be completed for starting pitchers this week, Flaherty is going to come at a high cost.
Yusei Kikuchi and Trevor Rogers both netted significant prospects in return, and neither have the same talent as Flaherty, despite some encouraging data for the pair.
It would not be surprising to see Flaherty land at least two of a club’s top-10 prospects.”
Nice job AF and team
Can’t believe Yankees couldn’t top this offer!
I’m happy with what AF/BG got done at the deadline. Upgraded the rotation and the bench added a power arm to the pen. The talking heads at MLB network and MLB radio are saying what the Dodgers gave up was light in all the trades compared to what other teams were paying.
The front office is going to have fun with the roster gymnastics they have coming up. Right now they show 15 position players on the 26 man roster. The bullpen is locked in with Phillips, Trienen, Hudson,Kopech,Kelly, Honeywell, Vesia and Banda. The only one with an option left is Vesia. Once Flaherty arrives Ryan or Wroboleski will be sent down. I see a lot of DFAs in the future.
Kiermaier batting .195 THIS year, so right now he is an “auto-out.”
But I still like the trade.
Here’s a start….
Buehler won’t be back..
Biggio ….gone…
the SS we picked up from SF …gone
pages…..back to minors
Taylor…..keep him injured
phillips…..send to minors to work out his problems
i will stop there….-TM
I doubt Pages gets sent down more likely Outman goes to OKC. Can’t send Phillips down unless he agrees to an injury or reports voluntarily. Phillips has no options left. Again the front office is going to have a ton of moves to make. I personally don’t believe that Muncy and Taylor are done for 2024. That’s why Edman,Rosario and Kiermaier were picked up.
By my count they need to make room for Kopech, Rosario, Keirmaier, and Flaherty. Edman is on a rehab assignment and may be 10 days to two weeks away from being on the 26 man roster. They have already DFA’d Yarbrough. I am guessing Outman goes back to AAA once Keirmaier is active. Either Wrobleski or Ryan goes back to AAA to make room for Flaherty or Stone goes on IL with some injury (for rest). Then either Biggio or Ahmed is DFA. If they plan on using Rosario at third, I guess it would be Biggio.
AF gets Flaherty for #8 and #22 prospects while Preller gives up 5 top ten prospects for Scott (a rental) and Adams. Two different approaches though neither guarantees success. Going to be an entertaining race to end the season in the West.
For me, I favor the process that Friedman followed to improve the Dodgers at the deadline.
I agree with you about AFs process not to say Preller is wrong I just like to have the prospect capital available in the offseason also. To be honest both ways can work and both can fail I just like having options available.
A lot of gold gloves on the Dodgers
Glad we got Flaherty. Was hoping for Tanner Scott or Mason Miller. Flaherty came cheaper than I thought.
Where are all the Negative Nancies who thought it was mediocre players as a strategy?
or who made veiled references to Nero?
this is the value of a loaded, deep farm system and smart execs.
make em eat some crow Bluto
Flaherty is a sneaky good acquisition. He had been pitching extremely well for Detroit.
Great acquisition at a great price. Kudos to Gomes or AF or whomever made that happen.
I’m fairly shocked that the Tigers didn’t get more for Flaherty. If I was a Tigers fan, I’d expect an ML-tested pitcher back in the deal as well.
If the deal had been Flaherty for Sweeney + Liranzo + Grove, I’d still consider it a win for the Dodgers.
The Tigers could have also asked for Yarbrough off the DFA list–but he turned in Keirmeier, a great glove even if he can’t hit.
Another good move.
Orioles DFA’d SP Cole Irvin. Angels are getting 4 prospects for Garcia.
Flaherty deal just seems too good to be true — a bonafide steal if his back holds up.
Not bad at all. This is one of Friedman’s best trade deadlines. I gotta admit. Good moves all around. A decent hitting centerfielder, who is also a gold glove. Another gold glove center fielder. A front line starter, a shortstop who can play other positions, and a reliever. Not a bad haul, and none of the top prospects dealt. They give up Ryan Yarbs, Miguel Vargas, and 5 low-level prospects. Color me impressed. Rebuilt bench, New center fielder, added a shortstop, a front line starter, a reliever, and another gold glove outfielder. I’m good with this.
It was a good trade deadline. Edman and Rosario bring some contact and speed to the lineup. As soon as Keirmaier steps into CF the outfield improves defensively and a Pages Heyward platoon should improve the outfield offense. Flaherty and Kopech improve the pitching staff. Good day to be a Dodger fan.
Great analysis….I’m adopting this as well.
