Who Do You Think of When You See This Logo

When you see the Dodgers logo, who is the first player that springs into your mind?  The Dodgers have been in LA almost as long as they were in Brooklyn. Actually, just a year shy of being in LA 67 years like they were in Brooklyn. There have been so many excellent and some very good players on both ends of the US. Brooklyn has several Hall of Famers who only played in Brooklyn. LA does not have that many who did not at least spend some time in Brooklyn. Drysdale and Koufax spent the bulk of their careers in LA as did Don Sutton. Mike Piazza started his HOF career with the Dodgers but went in with a Mets cap. Walter Alston spent 19 of his 23 years as manager in LA. Lasorda spent all of his managerial career with the Dodgers.

Beltre is another HOF player who started with LA and went in with a different logo on his cap. Jamie Jarrin spent his entire HOF broadcasting career in LA. Vinny spent 59 of his 67 years at the mic in LA. The home-grown kids have always been favorites, Willie D, Tommy Davis, Jim Lefebvre, Sax, et al. The first player who comes to mind for me is Koufax. I saw him pitch so many times and he was just so dominant. Big D was right there with him. On any given day you could see something special.

For this generation I am pretty sure it would be Kershaw. Fernando would be a favorite for the 80’s crowd. My favorite all time player was Duke Snider. Just thought he was so graceful out there in CF. I mimicked his stance when I was a kid. But you can go down the list for each decade since they came here. Hondo, Wills, Gilliam, Garvey, Cey, Lopes, Smith, Monday, the list is endless.

Even though he spent just 3 years as a Dodger, I have heard some fans say their all-time favorite is Kirk Gibson. I always liked Gibby, I just could not forgive him for going to Arizona to be their manager. Anyway, since there was not a game last night for the Dodgers, you can use this post to express your thoughts, rants, raves, and who you think of first. Oh, LA did pick up a half game on Arizona, who lost to the Giants.  Arizona is now () this much in front of Atlanta for the last wild card. Mets are ahead of them. Phillies won too.

For me it is Vin .

He resembles Koufax, Fenando, Orel, Gibson, Kershaw , Ohtani and all the other great Dodgers in his voice and person.
Though Joe Davis and Steve Nelson have done a great job of calling those memorable Ohtani moments this season I wish Vin would have called them.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Therealten

Koufax is the GOAT. Probably started an argument there. My earliest memories were of Willie Davis, Gilliam, Wills they were fun to watch. Then, the infield of Garvey, Lopes, Russel, Cey, Yeager winning the WS in 1981 I believe. The no name team of 88 with an unbeatable Hershiser. One of my favorite players didn’t start as a Dodger Reggie Smith. I wish I could have seen the Duke and others. The Dodgers uniforms are classic. When McCourt took over I was afraid the Dodgers would never be good again. Happy to say this is arguably the greatest time in history to be a Dodger fan!!

I went to the Dodgers/Cubs playoff game in Chicago I think the WS Cubs year. Maeda was warming in the bullpen. At that time the bullpen was on the field. I stood up with a Dodger shirt on(only one in the crowd) and hollered at Maeda. He took the ball he was warming with and threw it to me. All the Cub fans were asking how? I said duh the Dodger shirt. That was fun!!

Old Bear 48

I went to a Dodger game at Dodger Stadium with my brother in the mid 70’s During batting practice, Joe Ferguson, the first player since Ralph Branca to wear #13, hit a ball that bounced on the warning track and then into the stands. My brother was reaching for it, I knocked him out of the way and caught the ball. I don’t think he ever forgave me.

Jorge Valenzuela

When I see the Dodgers logo, it makes me think and remember Fernando, Pedro Guerrero, the penguin Cey, Garvey, Yeager, and I don’t know why, but I remember Ken Landreux & Brent Butler.

Old Bear 48

Met Landreaux the week before I sang the anthem in 81. He was in a batting cage which at the time was behind the bullpen up the tunnel. Cool guy. Butler was one of my favorites. Great hitter and besides Wills, one of the better leadoff hitters LA ever had.

Jeff Dominique

I have always been a Brett Butler fan, and I too fondly remember Kenny Landreaux. I still play the final catch of the 1981 World Series in my mind, Successful players do not need to be superstars.

rodgerdodger

The player that drew me to The Dodgers was Steve Garvey.

Garvey, Lopes, Russell, Cey infield and I loved them.

Phil Jones

My vote is for Vin. I think of him every time I watch an opponents TV broadcast because I refuse to watch Jess Mendoza, Eric Karros, and Dontrell Willis. And Jerry Harrison adds nothing to a broadcast.
Even when Orel is talking incessantly. Not a big fan of Stephen WTF’s his name either as he tries too hard to set up his partners with stupid baseball question.
I think of how enjoyable and pleasant it was listening to Vin call a game all by himself with his great stories and memories.
We all had it so good for so long.

Nelson is another chatterbox. He talks incessantly. I much prefer Tim Neverett to anyone besides Davis, who I still think is a Joe Buck clone. I prefer Nomar as an analyst and anyone but Mendoza, who should go back to calling softball games.

Phil Jones

I agree Bear. Nomar suits me fine. He brings experience and knowledge without being overbearing. He and Joe Davis are my favorites. I like Orel’s pitching knowledge although sometimes Orel and Joe get on that dad vs son SHTICK which wears thin in a hurry. And Orel will never use a single sentence to explain something when he can take a paragraph.
It’s like the analysts get paid by the word. I don’t know why they can’t let the game breathe. Something Vin was a master at.

Anthony H

I miss the one man both of Vin. I think Joe Davis would do Vin proud and work the booth perfectly.

Rusty Jay

Nomar’s OK. He used to drive me crazy with his human rain delay between pitches.

Scott Andes

I agree with this.

OhioDodger

Jackie Robinson.

Bumsrap

I’m pulling for AZ to get into the playoffs.

Jorge Valenzuela

I keep reading in the news that today the battle for the division leader between LA and SD begins… What stupidity!
The real fight will be between Mets and Braves.

Jorge Valenzuela

And speaking of good memories when seeing the blue logo… Tom Niedenfuer.

Just kidding!! 😅

Bumsrap

I associate waking up to hearing the Gillette Blue Blade song telling me the World Series was about to begin with the Dodgers.

That goes back to 1955

Bumsrap

Looking at the favorite Dodgers we have been mentioning, it seems they have a certain grace and humility about them along with skill.

Bobby

Right now, at this moment, when I see “Dodgers” I think of Landon Knack.

Time to step up my man!

Jorge Valenzuela

That’s a good one!

Fred Vogel

I think of trolleys.

Old Bear 48

The Dodgers have hit 7 homers off of King in his career. Ohtani 3, Betts 2, Teo and Max, 1 each. Let’s have some more of the same tonight. None of the Padres have ever seen Knack. Advantage LA.

The Dodgers are calling up Henriquez. No word yet on the move to make room for him.

Bobby

DodgerRam finally got one of his wishes!!

Singing the Blue

This will be the 5th level he’s pitched at this year and his numbers took a bit of a hit with each step up. Still only 22. Has great stuff. I’m not going to be particularly concerned if his debut this week is a bit bumpy.

Singing the Blue

Courtesy of Blake Harris on X, Henriquez stats for 2024:

Low-A: 50 K%, 14.3 BB%, .114 AVG
High-A: 48.1 K%, 9.6 BB%, .156 AVG
Double-A: 33.8 K%, 11.3 BB%, .180 AVG
Triple-A: 29.6 K%, 16.4 BB%, .275 AVG

Five levels in one year!

I guess this means the playoff roster isn’t out of the question!

Jeff Dominique

There will be nerves and increased adrenaline, so his control which is still a work in progress will be tested.

Jeff Dominique

AF chose Honeywell over Casparius, who was optioned, for the long multi-inning reliever. And Gavin Stone was moved to the 60 day IL which I anticipated earlier.

I hope Henriquez gets a shot against the Padres. Henriquez has been assigned #60, last worn by:

2024 – Eduardo Salazar
2023 – Yommy Hernandez
2022 – Robbie Erlin
2016-2018 – Andrew Toles

Scott Andes

Looks like he’s going to see some action tonight.

OhioDodger

Not resigning Beltre and trading Piazza and Pedro are the biggest blunders in Dodger history.

Bluto

Good list!

schmidt?
bauer?
andruw Jones?

Bobby

Even though he was an ass, I’d add NOT signing Barry Bonds after the 1992 season when he wanted to come here.

Old Bear 48

Guys, Jeff and I need you to do us a favor. Let’s leave any discussion about LADT off of the site. Let us stick to Dodger baseball. I know for a fact that Mark comes over and reads what is posted although he does not post himself. So, let’s talk Dodger baseball and leave everyone else’s personality’s off here. What happens or is discussed over there is not relevant here. I know Jeff would appreciate that.

OhioDodger

We need to ignore that and concentrate on the game of baseball and the Dodgers. It only brings the site down when we acknowledge what is said.

Scott Andes

You got it.

Eric

The first person that comes to mind when I see that logo is Vin followed by the Dodgers players and also Lasorda from the 80’s when I grew up.

With the Phillies loss tonight, LA is percentage points ahead of Philly for the #1 seed in the NL. If the season ended today, LA would play the winner of the Brewers-Arizona series. Phillies would meet the winner of the Padres-Mets. Braves are .5 games back of Az, whose game with the Giants is just starting.

Rodgerdodger

I see Roberts is in mid playoff form. Are you flipping kidding me man?

Badger

What did he do?

6 baserunners and only 1 run. Horrible at bat by Mookie in the second. 1 for 6 WRISP already. Come on guys. Be clutch.

Rodgerdodger

Have you watched a single team try that Little League fake double steal BS? Absolutely killed the inning. Dumb.

Badger

Oh, that. Never have liked that play.

Got to hit with them to play with them.

Bluto

I feel, and this is totally unprovable, that Roberts’ calm demeanor may be a hinderance for this team.

That demeanor, plus the length of his tenure here may just lay root for too much complacency.

Totally gobbly-gook, I wish I could provide some proof.

I’ve been thinking about this since somebody posted something that led to a question about why the Dodgers haven’t really had a “hot streak” this season. Was it the Make It Blue guy?

Last edited 1 month ago by Bluto
Scott Andes

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you about Robert’s calm demeanor, but the Dodgers haven’t had a winning streak this season because they have no starting pitching.

It’s pretty simple. No starting pitching equals losing. We’re on year 3 of this.

OhioDodger

But remember, we’re playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers per the unnamed savant. Getting mated again.

Scott Andes

I know. The front office is pathetic. The team is rudderless. No leadership of any kind. When the going gets tough they fold up like a beach chair. Clean sweep of the front office and management is needed this winter.

Dave

I’ve been saying this for a couple yrs now. Dave is too nice. It’s time to make a change.

Old Bear 48

Not sure I would use Knack against the better teams unless he was an opener.

Scott Andes

They’re not going to win with terrible or no starting pitching. Just facts here. The Padres look really good. They have strong pitching and I don’t see any weak spots in the lineup. Even worse they are hungry.

I would not use Knack in the playoffs. Best to use Buehler in that spot and pray. Might as well just use bullpen games. That’s how weak their starting pitching is. I never thought I would write that as I hate bullpen games.

I think it’s time to bring in some fresh voices to run the team. Management has had 9 years. Things aren’t changing and they seem clueless on how to build a pitching staff. It’s time for change.

Therealten

Well it looks like we are in playoff form. No pitching no hitting. At least I can go to bed early. The pads did everything they could to try to give it to us in the first. Freddie freeman has got to be the most overrated player in the league. U get the feeling that if Ohtani doesn’t do something we are dead in the water. Early in the season we were begging for 5 innings out of our starter now we are begging for 4. The chess players have started a new strategy with a bullpen game every night.

Bluto

Maybe he who should not be named is right.

there are some moronic posts here.

OhioDodger

Well, you know where you can go.
Don’t let the door hit you.

Couldn’t agree more.

Bluto

Moronic posts are fun!

Stupid, but fun.

Therealten

If anybody could recognize stupid it would b the GOAT. Your posts are so much fun!!

Bluto

Fun?

I doubt that, I have little interest in being fun.

OhioDodger

Good job.

Bluto

Can anyone explain why they didn’t keep Rojas bunting?

Bluto

Miguel Rojas said he had a bunt sign on the first pitch of the at bat. That was taken off for the second pitch.

I dunno, Roberts (beyond the complacency) still doesn’t inspire confidence.

Oy Vey.

Rodgerdodger

OK Dave are we bunting or not bunting? How did your double steal work out for you in the first?

3-10 in the last 13 playoff games. This was as close to 14 as it gets. The record really is starting to speak for itself. Late season big games are L’s. That’s a fact.
