MiLB Game Summary Reports – 06-26-2025

Not a lot to write about for this MiLB night.

Sacramento River Cats (Giants) 5 – OKC Comets 4

Trailing by three runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Sacramento River Cats scored four runs and beat the Oklahoma City Comets, 5-4, on a walk-off, three-run homer by Drew Ellis.

The Comets led, 4-1, with one out in the ninth inning before a single, walk and RBI single cut the lead to 4-2. After a forceout at third base for the second out, Ellis hit a three-run homer to left-center field on a 3-2 pitch to give the River Cats the win.

The game was scoreless through four innings before a RBI bunt single by Elijah Hainline put the Comets into a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Ellis tied the game on the first pitch of the bottom of the inning with a solo homer.

The Comets went back in front in the sixth inning, scoring three times. James Outman led off with a double.  Two walks loaded the bases, and after OKC took the lead on a wild pitch, Esteury Ruiz hit a two-run single to make it 4-1.

That was the last scoring until the 9th.  The three run HR was off Jack Little, who has been a reliable closer.  This was his 2nd blown save.

Outman’ double marked his fourth straight game with at least one extra-base hit. During that time he is 8-for-18 with three home runs and two doubles.

The Comets had four hits, with Outman’s double the only XBH.

Box Score

Tulsa Drillers 7 vs Frisco RoughRiders (Texas) 6

The first three Driller hitters hit safely and scored twice.  Ezequiel Pagan and Yeiner Fernandez opened with singles, and scored on Noah Miller’s 1st AA triple.

Frisco scored an unearned run without a hit in the bottom of the first.  SP Peter Heubeck ran into some problems in the 2nd.  A BB, single, and BB loaded the bases.  A ground out scored one run, and then a 3-run HR put the RoughRiders up 5-2.

Yeiner Fernandez got his 2nd single, Noah Miller drew a BB, and José Ramos reached on an error.  John earlier asked about Kendall Simmons, and I did not have a lot of positive thoughts to provide, but he certainly came through with a grand slam, his first 2025 HR.  Nice timing Jeff.  Tulsa back on top 6-5.

After the Frisco HR, Heubeck settled down.  He allowed 2 walks in the 3rd, but retired the next 8 Frisco batters he faced.

Tulsa scored an insurance run in the 7th with an Ezequiel Pagan double, and a Noah Miller single.

Antonio Knowles walked two and allowed a run scoring single in the 9th drawing Frisco to within 1, but closed out the 9th with his 5th save.

  • Yeiner Fernandez – 3-5, 2 runs, double (10)
  • Noah Miller – 2-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 3 RBI, triple (1)
  • Ezequiel Pagan – 2-5, 2 runs, double (11)
  • Kendall Simmons – 1-4, 1 run, 4 RBI, HR (1)

Box Score

Fort Wayne TinCaps (San Diego) 7 – Great Lakes Loons 1

Great Lakes opened the game with a Kendall George BB and moved to 3rd on a Josue De Paula single.  George scored on a Mike Sirota sacrifice fly.  That’s it.

Wyatt Crowell had his worst outing since May 2.  He did complete 5.0 innings, but allowed 4 runs (all earned) on 6 hits.  One positive outcome was just 1 BB with 8 Ks.

Zyhir Hope had 2 hits including his 17th double.

Box Score

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8 – San Jose Giants 5

Dodgers #26 prospect, 19 year old RHSP, Samuel Sanchez, struggled in this start.  He allowed 3 HRs and 4 runs in the 1st inning.  Sanchez allowed another HR in the 3rd.  Sanchez did finish 4.2 IP.  4 of the 6 hits he allowed were HR.  He walked 2 and struck out 4.

RC did score 1st in the 1st inning after Jaron Elkins and Eduardo Quintero both singled, and two ground outs plated Elkins.

In the 2nd, Cameron Decker led off with a double and scored on a Victor Rodrigues single.

RC drew within a run in the 4thOswaldo Osorio drew a BB.  Eduardo Guerrero singled and both runners moved up on the throw.  Elkins singled home both runners.  San Jose’s lead was down to 5-4.

RC took the lead in the 6th after 4 BB and a sacrifice fly.  The Quakes scored 2 more unearned runs in the 7th for the 8-5 lead and eventual win.

Three Quakes relievers pitched the final 4.1 innings without allowing a hit or run.

  • Jaron Elkins – 3-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI
  • Samuel Munoz – 2-3, 2 BB, 1 run, 2 RBI, double (15)
  • Eduardo Guerrero – 2-5, 2 runs

Kershaw is looking good… Now 4-0 with an ERA just over 3.00.
I would love to see a playoff rotation that includes Kershaw and Shohei…
I always feel good reading that Outman is having success at OKC. He could get another chance in the majors if any position player who is not a catcher gets injured.
I wonder if Hainline’s jump from Rancho to OKC (to fill in for the injured Freeland) could be permanent. He was apparently selected instead of Noah Miller

good metrics, not best in organization, but definitely very good, from a good college program and I think this where he was and where he went are pretty close on a map.

“Several Dodgers players, including Max Muncy, Kiké Hernández, and Shohei Ohtani, have expressed interest in the new torpedo bats.” I think I saw Kiké with a version of one yesterday. I read the Dodgers as an organization are kinda taking await and see attitude towards them.

Muncy tried one while he was in a slump. But ditched it pretty quick. But the bat he used wasn’t tailored to his swing pattern.

Rockies have now lost 9 straight games to the Dodgers. Gomber had maybe his best game since returning from the IL for them. Tyler Freeman, formerly of the Guardians, seems like a really good player. MLBTR has the Rocks in sell mode come the trade deadline.

Another great performance by Kersch. I thought it was cool that Doc pulled him at 69 pitches so he’s set up to get to his strikeout record at home.
I have a couple of complaints today:

  1. When Pages makes a bad play in the outfield there is a big overreaction. He has improved so much out there and it isn’t funny. He’s doing a great job. And he’s still a youngster who’s figuring out the position. Everybody makes mistakes. It’s part of the game. Leave him alone and let him play without all the scrutiny over his routes and mistakes. He will move to a corner someday anyway where he’s more comfortable.
  2. I’ve bitten my tongue every time a poster here suggests we dump Miggy Ro in order to clear roster space. I’m admittedly a huge Miggy fan but again, he’s under appreciated. I know he isn’t hitting as well as he did last season but he has played less. But, it’s ironic that he’s still 30 points higher than fan favorite Kike and nobody has suggested he be cut lose. Oh, yeah, Miggy lacks value because he doesn’t play the outfield? He’s just the best defensive infielder on the club.

The double play he started, 5-4-3, was a thing of beauty. And you may have notice that Edman crossed over the bag on the turn to cut the distance, something that Lux never did.
Miggy will be gone next year, most likely, and I guarantee we will miss his glove and leadership.

I’ve become a Pages fan. Admittedly I wasn’t earlier in the season as he looked like a lost rookie. But a switch was flipped. Might have been Teo in his ear constantly. Whatever. He’s only going to get better. He’s now a starter for years to come.

I too am a Miggy fan for reasons I’ve already stated. He’s a solid utility infielder and a bona fide leader. I hope the organization finds away to keep him around.
