Final game before the All-Star break and the Dodgers trying to win the series against the Giants after snapping their 7-game losing streak on Saturday. Yoshi Yamamoto starting for the Dodgers and Robbie Ray for the Giants. Through the first three innings, Ray was perfect. Yamamoto outside of giving up a walk in the second, and a single in the third, matched zeros with Ray. In the top of the fourth, Ohtani and Betts walked. Smith flew out to left. Freeman then ripped a double down the right field line scoring Shohei.
Teo and Pages both struck out ending the threat. Yamamoto gave up nothing but a walk in the bottom of the 4th. In the top of the 5th, Edman struck out. Rojas then homered to left field. Ruiz struck out, Ohtani singled, and Betts popped out to first to end the inning. Yoshi gave up just a single to Schmitt in the 5th. Dodgers went down 1-2-3 in the 6th. Yoshi set the Giants down in order in the bottom of the 6th.
Walker replaced Ray in the 7th and retired the Dodgers in order. Yamamoto went back out for the bottom of the inning. Kim took over at second and Edman moved to third. Yaz struck out, Flores grounded out third to first. Lee then doubled. Yoshi then struck out Schmitt. Rodriguez came in to pitch. Conforto pinch hitting for Ruiz flied out. Ohtani flied out and Betts struck out to end the inning. Vesia came in to pitch for LA. Outman came in to play center and Pages moved to left. Vesia struck out the side.
In the 9th with Doval on the mound, Smith walked. Freeman and Teo struck out and Pages flew out. Scott came in to pitch for the Dodgers. Adames made the first out on a fly ball to Outman. Chapman singled. Matos then pinch hit for Yaz and homered to deep left center field tying the game. It was another blown save for Scott, and the 7th homer he has allowed this season. He got Flores to pop out, Lee walked, and Schmitt flied out to left.
Lucchesi set LA down in order in the 10th. Dreyer came in to pitch the 10th for the Dodgers. Bailey lined out to center. They intentionally walked Ramos. Devers then hit a shot to deep center field that Outman caught at the wall for the second out, the runners did not move up. Casparius relieved Dreyer. Adames then grounded out Edman to Freeman.
Bivens came in to pitch the 11th for the Giants. Outman was the ghost runner at second. They intentionally walked Ohtani. Betts flied out to right, but Outman did not tag up and move to third. Smith struck out. Freeman then hit a bloop to center field scoring Outman. Teo hit a hard grounder to Flores at first that Bivens could not handle the throw on, and Ohtani scored, 4-2 LA. Pages singled to right scoring Freeman and Edman grounded out. 5-2 LA.
Casparius went back out for the bottom of the 11th. Adames the ghost runner at second. Chapman struck out, Matos popped out and Flores flied out to Pages to end the game. Casparius went 1.1 innings and got his 7th win. Scott got his 7th blown save. LA batters struck out 12 times. Freeman’s two hits brought his average up to .297. LA had 6 hits and 4 walks. The Giants struck out 11 times, had 5 hits and also drew 4 walks. Neither team had an error. With the loss, SF drops 6 games back of LA. The Phillies beat the Padres, so LA picks up a game on the Pads and now lead them by 5.5 games. Dodgers next game will be Friday the 18th at Dodger Stadium against the Brewers.
Minor League Scores.
Sugarland 6 OKC 2: Bobby Miller started for the Comets, went 4.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 2. He was charged with his 3rd loss. The other 3 runs came off of Kopp and Rodriguez. Dean had 2 of the 5 Comets hits, Alexander drove in both runs with a sixth inning double.
Tulsa 5 Arkansas 3 10 Innings: The Drillers would use six pitchers to secure the win. Neeck and Reinoso went the first 3 innings and gave up all three of the Travelers runs. Tulsa scored first in the bottom of the first on a pair of doubles by Kole Myers and Kyle Nevin. In the top of the 4th, Newell walked and then stole second. Pagan tripled and McLain singled to tie the score. Both teams then remained scoreless until the 10th. In the top of the 10th with the ghost runner at second, Myers was hit by a pitch. Fernandez walked loading the bases. Nevin grounded into a 6-2-3 double play. Newell singled driving in Myers and Fernandez. After the third out, Knowles came in and got the Travelers out 1-2-3. Cabrera got the win and Knowles his 8th save.
Lansing 3 Great Lakes 1: Lansing was in control the entire game with the Loons not scoring until the bottom of the 9th inning. Lansing’s Corey Avant pitched 6 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits and walking 3 with 4 Ks. The only Loons run scored on a homer by Decker in the bottom of the 9th. It was his third. Romero who pitched 4 innings gave up all three Lansing runs and was charged with his 3rd loss.
Rancho 7 Inland Empire 8: This was a back-and-forth game from the beginning. Inland scored in the first on a triple and then an RBI single Rancho tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a single by Munoz, a ground out that moved him to second, and then a Meza single. Inland scored 2 in the top of the second on a single, a walk and then a double. Rancho came back and tied the game on a pair of walks in the bottom of the third and then a 2-RBI triple by Meza. The teams traded runs in the 5th and 5th innings and went into the top of the 9th tied 5-5.
Dylan Figueredo came in to pitch the 9th. He gave up a single a walk and got a bunt pop out. A single scored a run. Then on an attempted steal of second, the catcher threw the ball away and both the runner on third and the runner stealing the base scored. Inland now led 8-5. In the bottom of the 9th, after two batters were out, Martinus singled, Osorio then hit his first homer, 8–7 Inland. Guererro then grounded out to end the game. Rancho had 12 hits and drew 4 walks. Meza and Avila both had 3 hit games, no other Quake had more than 1.

Jays are showing interest in D-Backs Ace, Zac Gallen. Cardinals placed Nootbaar on the 10-day-IL and called up Ivan Herrera. Multiple teams, including the Dodgers, are showing interest in Twins closer, Jhoan Doran and set up man, Griffin Jax. Mets activated Manea from the 60-day IL. Dodgers need a reliable closer. This has to stop. 7 blown saves by Scott alone this season. Had he converted only 3-4 more the Dodgers already would lead the Divison by almost 10 games.

Snell, yes, he is on the team and could be back in the rotation before the deadline. Based on his history, you will be happy that he is a Dodger in August through October.
Sasaki – Why till he is 25? Should the Dodgers have waited so that he may have cost $100MM, $200MM, $300MM like Yamamoto? The bonus for Sasaki was $6.5MM and a MLB minimum salary. He is controlled through the 2030 season. He is not even arbitration eligible until 2028. This was a small investment for someone many believe was the best pitcher to come out of Japan. This should be much higher than an F as the Dodgers did not buy for just one year.
Scott – I honestly did not keep receipts, but a lot of commenters here wanted Scott. I think someone actually said that he was the most important person to sign.
Yates – I am guilty on this one. He has not performed as well as I thought he would, but he is only signed for one year.
Kiké – The only reason fans wanted this was for October. My position was then and remains, if the Dodgers need Kiké in the playoffs to win, they won’t.
Teo – I was okay with signing Teo for one year and a club option. Teo was not. The Dodgers should have let him walk.
Conforto – I was in favor of Conforto signing. He is playing a much better LF of late and much better than Teo’s RF. Many believe he has figured something out and will have a good 2nd half.

I agree with your conclusion that the Dodgers overpaid for this. I still believe Snell will earn his contract. Edman will earn his contract. Full deal is $14.8MM/year for five years. 1.875 fWAR per year. As much as he has played hurt, he is already at 1.1. Sasaki will earn his contract.
Scott and Teo were bad contracts, and AF/BG should have known that when they signed. Yates and Conforto are bad one-year deals, but they are over after the season.
I do not think they should have let Teo walk. The mentoring of Pages alone is worth resigning him. He is also one of a couple of players with fire and enthusiasm. You need energy guys like him on your team.
In Edman’s defense, he has been banged up. His ankle is a little better now, but he suffered a broken toe and is playing on it, cut the guy some slack. Teo has the same issue but is not using it as a defense. Groin and bruised toe affecting him also.
Let’s offer them Yates and Scott?

A. It’s not a critique, it’s a smattering a cherry picked facts and minuscule samples

Due to numerous reasons, we’ve not had the first half we expected, and yet, we have the NL’s best record. I actually find it comical that we can point out so many flaws and failures in the first half for a first place team, because the expectations are THAT high!
Mookie and Freddie will wake up. As will Teo and likely Conforto. Scott cannot be this bad in the 2nd half, and he’ll get help with Kopech and Treinen (and others). And once Snell and Glasnow start acting like the #2 and 3 pitchers they are, we may skyrocket in the 2nd half and run away with the NL and best record in baseball.
I’m not worried, but by no means did we have a fantastic first half, despite the record. However, we are set up for a really nice 2nd half of well over .600 baseball.
It’s going to be a really fun Aug/Sept/Oct (and first day or 2 of November if need be).

Interesting stats. The big question for AF is whether Conforto’s numbers are sustainable. Is it just me or does Teo seem tentative when getting near balls that drop in front of him. And is this due to lingering effects from his groin injury?
A lot of time left in the season. Historically the Dodgers have been the best second half team in MLB the last ten years. Some pitchers will be back and you all know Mookie will turn it around. Going to be another great second half.

Normally when you have a team like the Dodgers, you have players that are having exceptional years according to their past performance. If you look at the Dodgers the only real surprise at least offensive is Pages and Will Smith. One has to think that the rest of the lineup will step up in the second half. Pages has to be disappointed he isn’t in Atlanta, hopefully this is the last time he isn’t on the all star team for a long while.
Ton of talent × Crazy in-season variability = Better chance of thriving.

Not that the Davis trade has any significance, but the Dodgers appear to be involved with preliminary trade discussions for one of Jhoan Duran (closer) or Griffin Jax (setup). I have only heard that the Dodgers should be pursuing David Bednar, not that they are.

Seriously, Outman showed yesterday why outfield defense is so important. I doubt Pages makes that play. Will the Dodgers pursue Jarren? Padres are listed as being very interested in trading for him.
I agree Pages does not make that play. Jarren does not make that play. Ceddanne Rafaela does make it. Jacob Young makes that play.
I’m disappointed reading so many here down on Teo and some down on Edman. Both have been injured and willingly playing at less than 100%.
Not to mention Teo is third on the team in RBIs with 57. Only 3 behind the leader and don’t forget, he missed about two weeks of playing time.
No, Teo brings much more to the team besides stats. He is the soul of the team and the team follows his lead. You can’t measure that quality.
As for Tommy Tanks….try to also cut him some slack….he earned it after last year’s playoffs.

Not sure folks here are down on Teo and Tommy, but rather just commenting that we aren’t getting the production we had hoped for.
In Teo’s case, it’s fairly easy to see by the way he moves that he isn’t healthy. It might be time for another visit to the IL to give him time to heal. I’m thinking that might have already happened if we had been getting regular production from the other corner outfield spot. I wouldn’t be totally shocked to see an outfielder added this month.
