Sorry but I am a poor loser. I could not find it within myself to suck it up and finish what I was working on after that loss to the Giants on Friday night.
Bad night for the umpire and Freddie. MLB needs to fix the umpire problem ASAP.
Agreed, that guy was awful.
I understand. That ump was awful. But Knack got some calls too. Two hung pitches by two of their best relievers cost them the game. Report on Google news said they are considering trading for Kenley Jansen. I think that ship has sailed. MLBTR reports that the Rays may make some of their starting pitchers available on the trade market. 7.5 in front of the Padres. Padres have played three more games than the Dodgers have.
Gotta score 6. Every night. Not going to win many when you only score 3.
Especially when your payroll is a billion dollars!
You honestly think they would be in this position if Mookie and Muncy were healthy? They are not going to make a trade too early unless they really need to. Biggio is temporary until Max gets back and then it is DFA land.
People who dog Muncy are eating crow now.
I had rib eye last night.
Outman 4 for his last 46 with 17 Ks.
Yoiks.
Is Pages our center fielder going forward? Gulp. According to fangraphs defensive ranking our center field defense is ranked 19th, our shortstop is 18th, our second base is 9th and our catcher is 10th.
I regurgitate, which means to repeat, this team is built to score.
Outman, a 10 game slump. It happens. Smith understands.
Smith is slumping against Major League pitching.
Smith found a slight flaw in his mechanics. He looked a lot better last night.
Outman has a history of slumping and then getting hot. He’s a streaky player. On most teams, a player who hit to a .790 OPS and finished third in ROY balloting in ’23 would have remained in the majors to work through his struggles.
Meanwhile, Toronto seems to be trending out of wild card contention. Bichette has said he wouldn’t be surprised if he is traded.
I’m not sold that Bichette would be an upgrade over Rojas, but a fresh start could help him. And maybe a fresh start in Toronto could help Lux too.
Such as Corbin Carol? His 2024 ytd line: .213.304.313.617
And our President of Baseball Operations is apparently ranked first.
I know Bums does not want to hear it, but Doc said it…sometimes a player just needs a new environment.
No matter how the Dodger announcers want to spin it, Pages is just not a good defensive CF, and Betts is not a good defensive SS. I agree with Bear that Bichette is not eonough of a significant defensive improvement to make a change. Is he a significant enough of an offensive upgrade over Lux to trade top prospects for? DeJong is not that big of an improvement defensively this year. I do not think he is a much of an improvement because he can slug. The team has plenty of slug.
I also agree with Badger that Rojas will not last to October if he has to play everyday.
For all of those who worship at the altar of AF, this was an avoidable miss. AF had to be strongly convinced that Lux was going to come fully back to his 2022 and as a SS. They pulled the plug on that pretty quick. He is now a platoon 2B.
Nick Ahmed is big defensive improvement at SS, and he was avaialble.
If all it takes is a new environment then maybe a trade for Baez makes some sense. I’m not giving up on Lux’ bat or Betts at short. It’s third that I want to improve. Plus, I want an outfield of Hernandez, Outman, and Pages.
I don’t just see the matter as seeking an upgrade over Rojas, but as strengthening the middle infield options.
What happens if Rojas gets hurt? Right now, it looks like Kike would take over SS. Or maybe Chris Owings could come up from OKC. Mookie could return but the layoff won’t improve his defense. Better to put Mookie at 2B.
I think a middle infield mix that adds either Bichette or DeJong and subtracts Lux is an upgrade. Bichette has the most upside and an extra year on the contract, but AF may prefer DeJong as an inexpensive rental.
How about Lux + Sweeney + ?? for Bichette + ??
Do you really think Toronto would do that deal? Toronto is going to sell Bichette on what he did prior to 2024. If he cannot bring top prospects, there is no advantage to trading him this year.
Interesting fact:
2020 draft was reduced to 5 rounds due to Covid.
The players we picked in those 5 rounds now make up 60% of our rotation.
Miller
Knack
Stone
Between Miller, Knack, and Stone I trust Miller the least. If the Rays are willing to move pitching then I would like to get Pepiot back. I haven’t heard what they want but some combination from Frasso, Ryan, Ferris, Martin, Bruns, Kopp, and Wrobleski for Pepiot works for me.
A rotation of Stone, Glasnow, Paxton, Pepiot, Knack would give time for Buehler, Miller, Yamamoto, and Kershaw to get healthy. Once the Dodgers have 7 healthy starters, I would try to trade Miller for offense.
I think Miller has the lowest floor and the highest ceiling.
Considering that he’s had shoulder problems in each of the last 2 years, that has probably reduced his trade value. If they are going to trade him they need to hope he has a really good second half and then do it this winter.
Assuming the above scenario would actually happen, what would you like to get (position wise) and who might that be (player wise)?
I am concerned about how hard Miller throws. It would appear both he and Buehler (and May) know one way to pitch and that’s to throw as hard as they can. Miller may need more time to heal that shoulder.
Pepiot? Yeah, sure. He might work. 14 starts, 5+ innings per start. If they could get two starters in return they might let him go. But he’s controllable for a few more years. Eflin might be more available. I’m guessing on that.
Miller gets rattled easier than Stone. Between his arm and his temperament, he is a trade candidate for me. Is he good enough to be a key piece to get someone awesome? If not, then I would keep him. I’m not a tweaker.
Just to understand…
You would trade Miller for offense over the winter?
Right now I’m wondering what deals the Dodgers might do to win this season.
Depending on what the return is, I would not wait until winter.
I think Miller would have to come back to the best version of himself very quickly in order to bring the kind of offensive player you want in the next 30 days.
Congratulations to Edwin Jimenez, last night’s HPU. In his 2nd season, he has quickly moved up my list of the league’s worst umpires. Talk about flipping coins back there.
It is what it is with Treinen but his job was made tougher by 2 misses strike calls in the 9th.
Umpire Scorecard had him with 20 missed pitch calls. TWENTY.
74% called strike accuracy. So, if we had the Challenge System in place, which one of his 20 blown pitch calls would be challenged? 5? 10? All 20? How about the ABS full-time to fix this bullshit? And run off Edwin Jimenez and his useless brother Emil while you’re at it.
Sometimes I think Treinen’s pitch moves too much for many of the umpires. He has to land it over the plate to be a strike, and then disaster happens. That was certainly the case last night.
It feels like MLB doesn’t really care about strike zone accuracy. The fix is there and they choose not to use it.
D-Backs get Gallen back.
I got a feeling the West will be better the second half.
Giants are getting three starting pitchers back over the next few weeks.
Yeah, I know. And the Padres are playing better. I expect the dbacks to play better too.
Wow, they score four to take the lead. It looks like bullpen time. Glasnow was not on his game today. This shows me one thing, they definitely need to trade for a starting pitcher either before the deadline, or in the next week or so. Biggio can leave anytime.
Wow, what an inning!!! 7 runs. 10 for 19 RISP tonight. Rojas now hitting .297, and he drove in 4 runs. Who says we need a SS?????????
Gotta admit, Rojas is surprising me. I still don’t think he can keep it going for another 100 games.
Doesn’t have to. Mookie will be back, Muncy will be back, and they can get him plenty of rest. You are counting the playoffs of course. They only have 78 games left. Padres have 75.
Of course I’m counting the playoffs. Aren’t you?
I don’t want Mookie back at shortstop. I want him at second. I think I’ve seen enough of Lux. I’m not that crazy about Kiké either, though I could live with him in a limited role.
I would much rather see Mookie back in right field. But I guess that ain’t gonna happen…
Me too. And no, it isn’t going to happen.
