Andrew Friedman was asked if he has any regrets after a quiet deadline.
“We don’t live like that,” Friedman said. “There’s deals that we thought made sense for us we pursued hard. It’s not like we had the potential to do a deal where we were like, ‘No’ and now we wish we would have.
“It’s always that balance. Lining up on a trade is hard. We feel good about the work we put in and the group that we have. Again, taking a snapshot on August 12th is one thing. Hopefully if we make it into October, seeing the roster that we submit we feel that it’s going to be a very, very strong roster. That’s our bet and that’s what we’re going with.”
I am not sure what he was supposed to say…”We F’d up”? They probably did, but now is not the time to bitch and moan about what was and what wasn’t done. There will be plenty of time in the offseason, if that becomes necessary. For me, as long as the Dodgers are still breathing, I believe they will win it all. There were hordes of fans who gave up on the Dodgers when they were down 2 games to 1 against San Diego and were about to take on the Padres with a bullpen game. We know how that turned out. So why should I give up on the Dodgers? Naive? I can live with that.
If the Dodgers do lose, I will be out in front with the autopsy. If they do not make the playoffs, they will be in a position for good draft picks. Sure that is putting lipstick on a pig, but I am not about to crawl into a hole. So I am going to put off any criticism due or not due to AF or Roberts. But that is me, for those who want to bury the Dodgers before the next 41 games, you may proceed.
MiLB GAME SUMMARY REPORTS
Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado) 8 – OKC Comets 5
The key take away from this game is that both Roki Sasaki and Michael Kopech were going to make their initial rehab assignment. For those only looking at the box score and making their decisions, they will not like the outcome. When Kopech went on his rehab the last time, he did not get good results. But he was nearly flawless when he was recalled.
- Sasaki’s line – 2.0 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 1 BB, 0 K
- Kopech’s line – 0.2 IP, 2 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 2 BB, 1 K
Bobby Miller pitched the 8th inning and did allow a one-out single, and 1 pitch later he got a double play to end the inning.

With limited reliable bullpen arms, LA might want to give Miller a shot as a reliever in the bigs.

The best OKC pitching performance came from LHRP Ronan Kopp. For 2.0 IP he retired all 6 batters he faced, 3 via a strikeout.
- Ryan Ward – 3-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, double (27)
- Esteury Ruiz – 2-3, 2 BB, 2 runs, 1 RBI, HR (11)
- Nick Senzel – 2-5, 1 run, double (12)
- Chuckie Robinson – 2-4, 1 run
- Doubles – Luken Baker (2), José Ramos (5), Kody Hoese (20)

Ryan Ward went 3-4 with his 27th double and 105th RBI for OKC tonight. He’s hitting .299/.389/.565 with 28 homers overall and .329/.410/.649 with 25 HR & 83 RBIs in 319 at bats vs. right-handers, which is presumably what he’d do if the Dodgers were to give him a chance.

Tulsa Drillers 5 – San Antonio Missions (San Diego) 1
Patrick Copen had another excellent start. He completed 5.0 innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run (earned), 4 BB, 4 K. Three Tulsa relievers followed Copen and completed 4.0 scoreless innings. Combined they allowed a single hit, 3 BB, 4K.
One of the 3 relievers was RHRP Carson Hobbs. Since his promotion to Tulsa, Hobbs has now appeared in 7 games and pitched 10.1 innings. He has not yet allowed a run, giving up 3 hits and 1 BB, and registering 13 K.
- James Tibbs III – 3-4, 1 run,
- Chris Newell – 2-3, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, 2 doubles (20)
- Nelson Quiroz – 2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI, double (2), triple (1)
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee) 8 – Great Lakes Loons 6
The Great Lakes Loons permitted five runs in the eighth inning, as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers snatched an 8-6 win.
Wisconsin jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 3 runs scored off starting pitcher Brooks Auger.
Great Lakes responded with a four-run third inning. Jordan Thompson led things off with a double to the left field fence. Kendall George singled to put runners on the corners. George stole second base for his record-breaking 74th of the season, a bad throw to second plated Thompson. The 74th stolen base surpassed Dee Strange-Gordon’s single-season record of 73, achieved in 2009.

Zyhir Hope’s RBI single drove home George, and a two-run home run from Jake Gelof plated Hope. Gelof has four home runs in his last six games. Tonight’s was sent 401 feet with a 110 mph exit velocity.
Brooks Auger’s final two innings, a scoreless frame by Reynaldo Yean, and four stranded by Logan Tabeling kept Wisconsin off the board from the third through the seventh. This was Tabeling’s initial appearance after being promoted to GL.
Against Aaron Rund, the Loons tallied two in the top of the eighth. A wild pitch scored one, and a bases-loaded 15-pitch walk by Samuel Munoz pushed across the other.
Trailing 6-3 and Tabeling still on the mound, Wisconsin had five straight reach with two outs in the eighth, a five-run, five-hit inning.
In the top of the ninth, George and Hope each walked against Jeferson Figueroa. Next up, Logan Wagner looped a ball up the third base line. Dropped by Fischer, he regathered and tried to beat George to third base. The call was made that Fischer did, and a throw to second put out Hope. Loons manager Jair Fernandez debated the call at third to no avail. A Figueroa punchout ended the night.
Kendall George and Zyhir Hope combined for six stolen bases. George’s third four-plus stolen base night and Hope’s second two-steal contest.
Most know about the success of Milwaukee’s 21 year old OF Jackson Chourio, in his 2nd year. Milwaukee has another of these young studs in 18 year old SS, Jesús Made. Made has been at A+ for 8 games now, and is excelling. He is someone to watch. IMO, he is every bit the player that Leo De Vries is.
- Kendall George – 2-3, 2 BB, 1 run, 4 SB (76)
- Zyhir Hope – 2-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, 2 SB (21)
- Jake Gelof – 2-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, HR (10)
- Jordan Thompson – 1-4, 1 run, double (15)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7 – Visalia Rawhide (Arizona) 4
The Quakes pulled off a second straight win in Visalia, as Rancho led from start to finish on Thursday night, a 7-4 win over the Rawhide.
A three-run first inning set the tone early, as the Quakes used 11 hits and got four innings of scoreless work by the back end of the bullpen to nail down the victory.
Jaron Elkins doubled home Ching-Hsien Ko two batters into the game, giving Rancho a 1-0 lead. After an RBI hit from Nico Perez and a bases-loaded walk to Victor Rodrigues, the Quake had a 3-0 advantage and eventually chased Rawhide before he could get out of the first.
Leading 3-1 in the second, Rancho added two more to take a 5-1 lead.
Quakes’ starter Isaac Ayon was solid in his Cal League debut, allowing one run on two hits over 2.2 innings, striking out four batters in the no-decision.
Justin Chambers was called upon to protect a 5-4 lead in the sixth and he chipped in with two scoreless innings. Connor Godwin earned his second save of the year, as he retired six of seven to end the game.
Mairo Martinus (5) slugged a solo homer in the ninth, giving the Quakes some insurance at 7-4.
Rancho will send Marlon Nieves to the mound on Friday night.
- Jaron Elkins – 2-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, double (27)
- Jose Meza – 2-3, 2 BB, 1 run, double (13)
- Nico Perez – 2-5, 2 RBI

I never give up on the team. I also know how hard it is to repeat in this era. They have had 2 seasons where the races were close, 1 game or less. 2021, when the Giants beat them for the division by one win. And 2018, when they tied the Rockies for the division and had to play game 163 to win it. Buehler was the winning pitcher that day. If the entire team were healthy, we would not even be talking about this.
Well with the bullpen struggling, I would give Miller a shot.
They may have to.
I still believe this team can and will hit. I’m not as confident in the pitching. Maybe they’ll surprise me in September.
It’s such a long season. I trust that the veterans will know how to finish.
Why not?
Bobby Miller was successful as a rookie. Often he looked like a future ace…before things went awry for him, and his lack of composure made this worse.
I have high hopes for Miller out of the pen.
Perhaps Bobby will be called up in time to match up against the Pad’s Mason with the game on the line.
Yes! Remember Eric Gagne? Mediocre starter that became a lights out closer.
So was Mariano Rivera
Then we should start Miller on a steroid program ASAP.
Needed a laugh thnx Cassidy
There are a lot of peaks and valleys over the course of a 162 game season. There is no doubt that they have struggled mightily since July 4th.Nine games under, I think. But it is too early to throw dirt on them. They have the easiest finishing schedule of any team in baseball and there are definitely signs of a resurgence for both Betts and Freeman. With Edman, Kopech, Scott, and Yates due back, there is a chance to replace Conforto (if Edman can play center field) and strengthen the pen. I would definitely give Miller a chance. Given the state of their bullpen, there is no good reason not to. They are a frustrating team to watch, for sure, but baseball is entertainment for me and meaningful September baseball is entertaining. Looking forward to this weekend series with Padres.
Kim and Kike due back too.
But will Kike be back? There seem to be mixed signals.
Latest I read yesterday was that he was taking grounders.
I have been hoping to see more of Kim all year. And personally I would rather see Call in the lineup than Conforto. Call has had a deer in headlights look about him, but from what I’ve seen I believe he’s more of a baller than Conforto.
Pitching. For me it comes down to one simple remedy. The starters, who have averaged a league low 4.6 innings per start, need to start averaging 6 innings per start. If they can get 4 more outs per game, the bullpen issues will be more easily resolved.
Kim isn’t the answer.
We need to pray Edman comes back as a starter and Freeman/Keekay can approximate a full player.
Exactly. They dumped Heyward last year about this time and he was hitting 20 points higher than Conforto. Time to cut bait.
Julio Urias plans to pitch in the Mexican Winter league. He knows he needs to get back into shape after missing 2 years. He is now 29 years old.
Can he play LF?
Good luck throwing out George.
He’s become must see (or read about).
Sasaki wow! So coveted! Huge disappointment at this point. Another expected weapon off the board.
might as well bring Miller up for the bullpen. They have tried everyone else.
Let’s see how Sasaki does his 2nd rehab start
The Mets are 1-9 in the last 10 games, despite going hard for relievers (and Cedric Mullins) in the trade deadline. Yankees 4-6, they also made a lot of moves in the trade deadline. This is not to say AF was correct about going frugal on this trade deadline, but Dodgers are not the only ones disappointing here. I think all three teams have some questions to ask themselves during this offseason. Of course, as Jeff mentioned, we still have 40 games left to play.
I like to say this about Bear and Jeff instead this a fan forum chat where we talk about the team. Yesterday I said there’s about five other teams better then the Dodgers whuch is true. And Jeff said go away go root for them. Well I am sorry I am a life long dodger fan just hate seeing how they play and as a fan it ain’t fun to watch. They have no closer four guys from AAA playing that cant hit major league pitching and you two say oh its a plan to act bad and then turn it on the last month. Really the four guys on the major league roster now that cant hit rushing call Dean and Freeland. Again you said what players there you go like I don’t know what I am talking about. That’s the problem nd like I said there’s no one walking threw that door unless you count on Kiki edmans and Kim and kropech to walk in that clubhouse and sprinkle fairy dust and go okay boys were here now let’s play ball. They messed up by not getting players at the deadline when they could have. But they didn’t want ti tradr single A or double AA ball players so they did nothing. But you two Jeff and Bear critics day its fans that are wrong its all a plan. How come the giants or Mariners or Nationals can bring up a guy put him in the lineup and he produces. But the Dodgers bring up these top players and the cant hit major league pitching. Excuse me I do think that’s in the coaching some where between minors and majors in this organization that guys can’t hit and go else where and do. Three players doing well Miguel Vargas hitting bettee Michael Busch hitting better and DeLuca. All traded away and oh my gosh there hitting fine. Any way the problem with Dodgers is thee coach philosophy and apparently not being in shape for the season because they have so many injuries. Padres have had injuries yet they go and get a guy in minors ans he hits and fields or they go and get someone that will. That’s the difference in the two teams
First off Bradley, you obviously did not read Jeff’s post about what Freidman had to say about what the Dodgers did at the trade deadline. If you did not read it there, it was available on many outlets on the internet including the Dodgers website. Call is a major leaguer and has been for four years. Rushing and Freeland are rookies and are expected to struggle. The Nationals draft much higher than the Dodgers do, so they can get premium talent long before they fall to the Dodgers. For example, LA’s first pick in the draft was #40. DC picked 1st. You might be a life-long fan, but you haven’t been one as long as Jeff or me. You obviously do not follow what Freidman has done over the years, or you would understand he refuses to overpay in prospects for talent. As for Vargas, he was a flop in LA and really had no position on the team. He was part of the trade for Edman and Kopech, so LA got more back than it lost. Busch was another player who had no spot on the roster. They traded the guy to give him a chance with another organization. He hit .167 with LA in his 80 games. They got Hope and Jackson Ferris for him. He would not have been a regular in LA. As for Deluca, he was part of the Glasnow trade. So, they got a top of the line starting pitcher for him and Pepiot. Jeff and I do not criticize fans all day. Jeff is pretty laid back as far as taking a fan to task. They made trades at the deadline that made sense to THEM. They run the team, and they know a hell of a lot more than you, I, or Jeff about what they need. You have no clue how hard these guys work to stay in shape. As for their coaching philosophy, they develop plenty of MLB players. The Padres sold out to win now. The Dodgers are built for the long haul. If this team was at full health, you would not even be discussing this now. Players are in the weight room every day. Pitching injuries happen. Arms are not designed to throw baseball’s 100 miles per hour. It is an un-natural motion for the arm. Players can be injured on the easiest plays. Muncy was hurt when a runner bruised his knee. He was lucky, they thought it was a torn ACL. In 21, he wasn’t so lucky. Freeman last year, Edman this year. Ankles sprain easily as I can attest to since I have had a few in my time. Turning it on the last month was never the plan. They were 9 games in front on July 4th. Pretty much the entire team went into a slump. You can’t predict that. Anyone who thinks you can is dreaming. As for Dean, how do you know he can’t hit MLB pitching? You basing that on the fact the guy is 0-1 in his MLB career? For your information, Dean was batting 20 points higher at AAA than Freeland was. Freeland would not even be here if Kike, Edman or Kim were healthy. Dean is a pure CF, who is excellent defensively, and very fast. That is why he is on this team. Quit blaming Jeff and I for just stating the facts. The fact is, you think you know what is best for this team and the front office is full of people who don’t care and are dummy’s for not trading tons of talent for some player you might think would make a difference. Players have slumps. Not one single super-star has ever avoided them. LAs just happened at the same time. Jeff told you to leave because you keep bringing up the same old crap. He gets tired of it. He got tired of all the negativity that Scott said, and Scott has toned that down. It is easy to criticize when you are not in the room making the decisions. You assume way too much without any facts.
They should have gotten a closer at the deadline and a veteran outfielder and they didnt argue with me about that and tell me I’m not following the team. They screwed up. Okay. Why nit a kenley Jansen and Taylor Ward should have done that but nope. Sure wish we had those two guys last week we wouldn’t have gotten swept. But I am sure your going to disagree with that Bear.
I don’t disagree at all. You still do not get it. In order for them to trade for a player, that player has to be on the market and the team that has him has to want to trade him to you. Jansen and Ward were not on the market, and the Angels have not made a trade with the Dodgers since the Joc Pederson trade was pulled back. It is not that you are not following the team, it is that you are not following the history of Freidman and how he does business and trades. Call is a veteran outfielder. Four years quality’s him as such. They still might have been swept no matter who they traded for. Quit blaming me for pointing out the truth. They do the trades they feel are best for the team, not who the fans want.
Didn’t a former GM once say, If you make trades and do business like the fans want you to, you will soon be one of them.
You don’t pay much attention Arte Moreno the Angels owner doesn’t like the Dodgers. He had the last trade they agreed to shot down. There is no way he would have sent Jansen and Ward to the Dodgers. Not to me the still thinks they have a shot at the wild card. In case you didn’t notice Call is technically a veteran out
Vargas is hitting,226 with a .700 OPS. Call is hitting .263 with a .729 OPS. But Vargas is better?
Why Bear keeps answering this nonsense guy is a mystery to me
Because David me and Bear have fun with it ans I like to say things and whan they come true he has to say oh you were right. Just two guys having fun chatting that like the Dodgers.
Well Bradley, you are rarely right. You were even wrong on Rosario. You thought he should be the everyday SS. But they got him to be a utility guy.
I get tired of his inane posts but try to get him to understand that the game is not that easy and some of his takes just make no sense at all.
Dump Conforto, sure. But who do you replace him with? I suspect he stays around until Kim, Edman or Hernandez are available.
I’d agree with that as well.
Interesting conversation on MLB Now about the Dodgers. They have 3 main reasons the Dodgers are struggling. First is defensive efficiency measures turning batted balls into outs. Last 6 years they were first or second this year they are 18th. Only 2 positions have a positive outs above average ranking. Second starters don’t go deep into the game we all know this. Third OPS in high leverage situations. The Dodgers are at .764 one of the baseball. The Yankees have the same .764 the teams below them are no where close to being in the race for the playoffs.
The starters may start going a little deeper with every one getting healthy and stretching them out. The defense is going to be tough to fix during the season. To me Teoscar was much better in left field than he is in right. I would move him back to left let Call or Dean play center and move Pages to right. The bullpen has to be better to lower that high leverage situation OPS hopefully if they get healthy they can pitch to their career numbers.
Won’t argue any of that.
And what to do? Nothing. Just let these guys play.
They have the roster, now they have to play themselves out of the funk. IMO, to expect Kim or Edman or Kiké to be the comeback hero or for Rushing or Freeland to be the rookie hero is not realistic.
Completely agree with you on putting Hernandez in LF, with Pages in RF. Call in CF would be ok but he would be better suited as a platoon as he hit LHP’s better than RHP. It’s unfortunate that Kim doesn’t have the experience to play CF and get proper reads.
Pretty sure Teo would move if they asked. But they have not it seems.
Kershaw against TBD tonight. Hate that guy. As long as Kersh keeps the ball away from Tatis Jr., who is probably salivating at the thought of facing Kersh, he should be okay. Tatis has 4 bombs off of Kersh. Kind of like Walker when he was a D-Back. Snell should be next up then Glasnow.
Hoping Kersh can go 6, and then maybe Wrobo can pitch a couple of innings, or Treinen can close it out? Vesia seems a little overworked lately. Just win tonight Dodgers, please.
Wrobo pitched on Wednesday and was not sharp. Win the first one, then Snell and Glasnow on the mound.
I’ll expect TBD to go 6 strong with 8k. Dude is money vs. us
Funny but sadly true.
Hate when he does that.
One of my favorite young hard throwing pitchers is the Reds’ 22 year old RHSP Chase Burns. He may not be in the Paul Skenes or Jacob Misiorowski tier, but he is not that far off. He has just been placed on the IL by Cincy for flexor strain.
It’s not just Dodgers pitchers.
It is league wide. But some choose to ignore facts
Dodgers called up CJ Alexander to the taxi squad in case Muncy hits the IL. Plays multiple positions and bats left-handed. Showed some power in the minors.
https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/breakdowns/active-roster
Dodgers claimed Buddy Kennedy off of waivers from the Blue Jays today.
There you go, Bradley! We got you a buddy!
Funny in a warped sort of way.
No word on Muncy yet. I don’t know if thats good or bad.
https://fxtwitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1956494047369170992
Muncy to the IL
Annnddd because Conforto once again has evidence vs Doc and Friedman, he’s starting tonight.
Update on Scott and Stewart
Update on Yates
Kennedy is a first baseman. Muncy plays 3rd. Why aren’t the Dodgers replacing Muncy with an infielder?
Kennedy plays 2nd and 3rd. CJ Alexander plays 1at and 3rd.
Maybe Freddie will play 3rd again he played 16 games there in 2017
Sorry Ryan Ward. We’d rather pick up a dude from the scrap heap and bring him up right away for no reason.
Next time try hitting .350!
If I read the stats correctly, Kennedy has a LIFETIME batting average of .193. Maybe we just got him to make Conforto feel better.
The A’s DFA’d Gio Urshela today. Urshela is a third baseman who has actually hit well in the majors, although not for the past couple of years. I’d like to see us get him because I think if he went to a contender, he might actually catch fire for a few weeks.
Does anyone know how DFA works at this time of year? I don’t think the A’s can trade him, so is it just a matter of waiting until he’s released and then teams can approach him?
If he gets put on waivers, he can be claimed. DFA is good for 7 days.

Jerming Rosario also has made a move to the bullpen
