Two of the names of players who have been dissed coming into this series were LHRP Tanner Scott and LF Michael Conforto. Coming into the series, Scott had blown 3 save opportunities in his last six games, and that continued into Game 1 of the series when he suffered the loss after giving up 2 runs in the 10th. But something clicked in Game 2 and he got the win.
The Dodgers came all the way back to take the lead in the 8th and Doc summoned Scott to get his first save since May 21. He struck out the first two batters he faced, and had Francisco Alvarez 1-2 before Alvarez hit a hard ground ball single on a slider at the bottom of the zone. He got Luisangel Acuña to hit a routine fly ball to CF on a 3-5 4-seamer at the top of the zone to get that save.
The Dodgers found themselves down 5-3 in the 8th, thanks largely due to Landon Knack’s lack of command. He allowed 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 BB, including three solo HRs. After the game he said that he pulled the 4-seamer to Pete Alonso down too much and right into Alonso’s power stroke.
Brett Baty and Starling Marte both hit HRs in the 3rd on pitches Knack left up and very hittable. They did not go very far (391’ and 371’) but both far enough. A HBP, BB, and single led to a Sac Fly and a 4-0 lead before Jack Dreyer came in to relieve Knack.
Dreyer entered with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out, and Juan Soto at the plate. Soto got the unintentional intentional BB on 4 pitches that were not close to load the bases for Pete Alonso. Dreyer struck out Alonso on a 2-2 slider that was not a particularly good slider, but good enough. Jack then induced Jeff McNeil to a F9 to get out of the jam.
In the 6th, Dreyer allowed a single and struck out Soto before Doc brought in newly signed RHRP José Ureña. Things did not start well for Ureña. After an Alonso single and a WP put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, the Dodgers pulled off the defensive play of the game. After a 9-pitch K of McNeil, Will Smith picked off Marte at 3B for a strike ‘em out, throw ‘em out double play to end the inning.

Ureña retired the side in order in the 7th, and got the first two outs in the 8th. But Marte followed with a double, and Ureña intentionally walked Soto to get to the RH batter Alonso. Alonso singled to give the Mets a 5-3 lead. Vesia was called in to get the final out of the inning.
This set up the LAD comeback. NYM RHRP Reed Garrett has been almost unhittable this season. Garrett walked Mookie to lead off the 8th, and Will Smith doubled him home. Teoscar hit a long enough fly ball to CF that moved Smith the 3rd. With the infield pulled in, Andy Pages hit a bouncer to 3B that Baty had trouble pulling the ball out of his glove. When he threw home the ball went off the catcher’s glove. Garrett was backing up catcher Alvarez but with Alvarez between Garrett and the plate, he was blocked and could not get to Smith as he hid home safely to tie the score.
The Dodgers tie it up on one of the wildest plays you'll ever see!

Pages moved to 2nd on a WP, but Tommy Edman struck out for the 2nd out. In a predictable move, Freddie Freeman PH for Kiké Hernández and was intentionally walked, also predictable. This brought up the most lost hitter in MLB, Michael Conforto. On the first pitch, Conforto lined an opposite field single to LF that scored the go-ahead run. It broke an 0-30 run while hitting wRISP, and first since he hit a run scoring double in the 2nd inning of the March 31st game against Atlanta.
The streak is over ‼️

I still cannot understand why Conforto has such a problem hitting. If you watch the video, his head does not move, and he is quick to the ball, stayed in the zone to drive it into LF. It was a great AB.
I am not that much of a Pollyanna to say that Conforto has turned the corner, but I am also not that much of a skeptic and cynic to think it doesn’t trigger something. Something triggered a resurrection for Andy Pages and Max Muncy. I am not holding my breath, but it sure would be nice to see if it does.
Mookie and Smith were the hitting stars in this one. Mookie was 2-2 with 2 walks, and a run-scoring double. This led to a Will Smith run-scoring single. Shohei had two ground ball singles and 2 Ks.
This was a great win for the Dodgers, and while fans can point to negatives (like they can in almost every game), I will accept that Landon Knack took a step back, but the bullpen and timely hitting brought the TEAM a win. The Dodgers are exactly where they were in the NL West standings before the Mets series: 2 games up on San Diego and 3 games up on San Francisco.
Justin Wrobleski will be starting on Friday vs the Cardinals and Sonny Gray.

Kody Hoese has not played since May 27, going on the IL. Thus, Senzel is getting a long runway.
No Comet had a multi-hit game, and Senzel’s HR was the only XBH.

Tulsa Drillers 7 – Amarillo Sod Poodles (Arizona) 4
Tulsa outfielder Chris Newell had a big offensive night to lead Tulas to a 7-4 victory over the Amarillo Sod Poodles. He generated only 2 hits in his past 8 games, but slugged a pair of HRs driving in four runs in this one.
However, Newell was not the only star in this one. Not to be outdone, Tulsa starting pitcher Chris Campos turned in the longest and perhaps best start by a Drillers pitcher this season.
The two runs charged to Campos scored on Caleb Roberts’ sacrifice fly in in the fourth inning and Gavin Conticello’s solo home run in the seventh. The Drillers held a 6-2 lead when he departed. He completed seven full innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
Newell’s big night began in the second inning when his first home run of the evening gave the Drillers a 1-0 lead.
One inning later, John Rhodes drew a bases-loaded walk to double the lead.
Tulsa continued to score runs as Yeiner Fernandez plated Sean McLain with a single in the fourth.
Newell’s second homer came in the fifth inning and was a three-run shot that doubled gave Tulsa a 6-1 lead.
The two runs charged to Campos scored on Caleb Roberts’ sacrifice fly in in the fourth inning and Gavin Conticello’s solo home run in the seventh. The Drillers held a 6-2 lead when he departed the game.
Campos’ seven innings were the longest from a Tulsa pitcher since Campos worked an eight-inning start on August 7, 2024 against Arkansas.
Damon Keith produced Tulsa’s seventh run in the eighth inning on a groundball that allowed McLain to score from third base.
Amarillo attempted ninth-inning rally by earning three hits and drawing two walks to plate a pair of runs. Kelvin Bautista killed the comeback attempt by recording the final out to pick up his first save of the year.
RHRP Livan Reinoso worked another scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 0.79 since joining the Drillers. He has been charged with one earned run in eight Double-A appearances (11.1 IP).
- Yeiner Fernandez – 3-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI
- Taylor Young – 3-5, 1 run
- Chris Newell, 2-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI, 2 HR (9)

San Jose Giants 6 – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 4 (10 innings)
The Quakes dropped their fourth straight game as the San Jose Giants came up with a ten-inning 6-4 victory.
The loss for Rancho sets a new season-high, as their lead over Lake Elsinore, who’s won seven straight games, is down to just six with 12 to play in the first half. The lead should be safe, but you just never know.
Down 3-1, Eduardo Quintero slugged his 10th HR of the season in the 6th.
The Quakes trailed by two runs on three different occasions, but rallied back to tie the game in the seventh. With Gio Cueto aboard at first, Eduardo Guerrero (3) tripled him home to make it 4-3. Guerrero later scored on a throwing error to even the game at 4-4.
Rancho had a shot to win it in the ninth against eventual winner Evan Gray, but Joendry Vargas popped up with the bases loaded, sending the game to extras.
In the tenth, Dilan Figueredo, making his season-debut for Rancho, surrendered an RBI single to the first batter of the inning, as Jakob Christian singled home Maui Ahuna to put the Giants ahead to stay. Christian later scored on a throwing error, giving the Giants a two-run lead.
The Quakes went in order in the bottom of the 10th.
RC will send California League Pitcher of the Month of May, Christian Zazueta, to the mound on Friday night.
- Roger Lasso – 2-4, 1 RBI
- Eduardo Guerrero – 2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI, triple (3)

I have been pulling for Conforto to at least do something positive. This was huge for him. Smith picking off the runner at third was a thing of beauty.
Dodger insider, Jack Harris said on SI that he does not expect LA to make a blockbuster deal at the deadline.
The Dodgers’ fall behind early as the starting pitcher struggles, then they either win or lose trying to overcome the early deficit. This is the (mostly) clockwork-narrative we’ll have to endure for the foreseeable future. Oh well, this will strengthen the team’s character & resiliency as the season progresses. Right. It is what it is.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Wrobleski can give us. I always thought he and Casparius would be starters for the team. With Casparius, I can understand why he is in a reliever status, but I think he might do well as a 4/5th starter. Knack has allowed 10 HRs, the most on the team with Gonsolin closely following. Knack also has a .147WHIP. Gonsolin not doing much better.
Conforto was 0 or 30 with RISP. Now he is 1 for 31.
Will this be remembered as a turning point for him? We’ll see.
While I root for every Dodger who steps to the plate, I think it’s a fan’s responsibility to think critically. Is Conforto, in the greater scheme, really preferable to Outman or Ward or perhaps Cedric Mullins?
Nice hit, but I still think Conforto may be a $17 million pinch hitter in October. With the current roster, the optimal OF still reads Pages-Edman-Teo, with Kim at 2B.
At any rate, hitting isn’t the Dodgers’ big problem. The problem is pitching–especially the way starting pitching has been ravaged by injuries. Certainly the Dodgers’ rotation has proven much less durable than many others?
The current pitching stats tell a story:
Yamamoto leads the Dodgers in innings pitched with 67.2. That ties him for the 50th most in MLB.
Again: 50th.
Several other teams have two or three pitchers with more IP than the Dodgers’ busiest hurler.
The Yankees have a nice one-two punch in Max Fried (81 IP) and Carlos Rodon (79.2). The Giants have Logan Webb (81.1) and Robbie Ray (77.1). The Astros have Framber Valdez (85) and Hunter Brown (73.2). The Rays have old friend Ryan Pepiot (76) and Zack Littel (74.2).
Et cetera, et cetera…
Other teams, it seems, value durability more than the Dodgers do. The idea of Glasnow–the ideal, perhaps–has been much more appealing that the reality. While we hope that Glasnow and Snell and Sasaki all return healthy, I find myself hoping that Sheehan and especially Shohei will wind up providing the Dodgers the 1-2-3 punch the team needs.
Should they consider a trade?
Well, it’s been suggested that the Astros might deal Valdez….
What does Ryan Ward need to do to get a shot?
Wrobo V Gray tonight, Yoshi takes on Fedde tomorrow and May gets the start on Sunday against TBA. Cardinals have been hot. Rain is forecast for St. Louis around midnight, and then heavy showers on Saturday starting around noon until 6PM.
Well I’m now more sure than ever that the Dodger Brass reads Dodger Chronicles for ideas. Just last week I shared my promotional idea of the Tyler Glasnow or Blake Snell Bobble Head, where after the 4th head bobble, its arm falls off.
Well, now I see that Monday, June 16th is a Blake Snell Bobblehead Night. I wonder if they have stolen my arm falling off idea as well? Coincidence? I don’t think so.
So I’m watching Landon Knack pitch and I’m thinking WTF? He can be so frustrating. He’s had a couple of nice outings lately but yesterday, he’s throwing it all over the place and walking 5 guys in 3.1 innings on 86 pitches. And his misses are not close.
I get it if you’re Ricky Vaughn on Ryne Duren but Knack has an MLB average fastball. And throughout his professional career, he has maintained at 33% walk rate.
Years ago, I stopped using the term “waste-pitches” with my guys. It was the standard term in those days and I started using “Chase-Pitches”. Waste to me indicated pitches that weren’t competitive and basically a waste of time. Chase pitches have a purpose and should be competitive.
Knack, and too many of our other pitchers, throw shit that bounces in the opposite batters box, 52 footers that give the catcher no shot to block, or fastballs 1/4 the way up the screen.
A nice bullpen job saved Knack fro the loss he deserved.
I think in the coming years it’s very possible that Andy Pages could evolve into a top shelf Major League hitter with both power and slug. He has a big-time ceiling. I hope I’m around to see it.
You can choose to believe Tyler Glasnow on the health of his shoulder, or you can continue to listen to the uninformed click bait blogs who thrive on negativity. We will have to wait and see, but it sure sounds as if Glasnow wants to ramp it up, but is being told to slow the roll.
You can also listen to what he said that led to his injured shoulder, or you can choose not to believe him. I choose to believe him. Naïve? Perhaps, but I have always looked for solutions and work arounds. Kind of like Kanga. Or you can be like woe is me Eeyore.
Tyler said that he will be back in plenty of time for the pennant rush and into the playoffs.
Doc is basically confirming what Glasnow was saying. While the Dodgers expect several pitchers to return in the second-half of the season, Roberts revealed the priority is to preserve as many arms for October.
“As far as return to play, there’s certainly a cautiousness to it,” Roberts said.
I choose to believe that Snell, Glasnow, and Sasaki will be back for the 2nd half, and apparently the Dodgers do as well which is why they do not expect to make any big trades at the deadline. Those three are the trade deadline pickups, along with Kopech, Yates, Henriquez, and possibly Treinen. Per NBC Sports Rotoworld on May 17::
Blake Treinen (forearm) has started his throwing program as he works his way back from the forearm strain that has sidelined him since the middle of April. The right-hander can come off the 60-day injured list on June 18, and there’s a good chance he’ll be ready for activation right around then — assuming no setbacks, of course.
What pitchers will be available that would give the Dodgers a better chance of winning this year? That is not to say that I do not believe that AF/BG would turn down an opportunity to acquire Ryan Weathers with 3 more years of control. Or Freddy Peralta with a very favorable 2026 option ($8MM). Or even a rental, Nick Martinez, who can slide into the bullpen for the playoffs. I find it hard to believe that Houston would trade Framber Valdez, but if they do, I am sure AF/BG will listen. One other name who could surface is Atlanta’s Chris Sale. Atlanta is 7.0 games behind in the WC race.
A certain south of the border lefty starter will be available at the all star break
I have as have others appreciated Conforto’s swing. Maybe that swing would make him a good pinch hitter. He might be a better bench piece than Rojas given Kike’ and Kim being redundant utility players.
I would then make the regular outfield as Pages RF, Outman CF, Hernandez LF. I’d rather see Kike’ platoon with Max and use Kim to rest Edman and Betts.
Rockies released Jacob Stallings.
It’s not just us. Corbin Burnes to undergo Tommy John surgery. Killer for Dbacks
The disparity in relative terms of player trade value is amusing. There are multiple outlets that believe the Dodgers could be interested in a reunion with Walker Buehler after Jeff Passan wrote about such a possibility. One outlet trade-mocked a one for one deal. Walker Buehler to LAD and AA RHSP Jared Karros to Boston. And yet another had the Dodgers acquiring Walker for James Outman and Jackson Ferris. Neither one is feasible. Yes, IMO.
