Way back before the trade deadline I advocated to pick up Jose Quintana. Well he just threw 5 shutout innings today helping the Mets eliminate Philly. U think it doesn’t help to be an underdog. Ask Philly they were last year n knocked off the favorite Atlanta. This year they just didn’t have that magic,as a loose underdog playing with everything to gain n nothing to lose, knocked them off. The Dodgers just play scared while the pads play loose.

the more I think about Roberts nonchalant action after the machado play, the more I think this is indicative of the whole team. He sets the tone. Be aggressive take it to them show some fight. Right or wrong make an argument instead of saying how wonderful machado is. Mb freeman should have worked in spring training on what to do if someone makes such a smart play.

Well they did come out very aggressive both hitters and the pitcher. Even Muncy made a big play on defense. Go Dodgers!!

We need to get something from the bottom of the lineup like Peralta has given the Pads. Maybe Kike?

We got something from them this time through the order. I loved Kike’s approach. Smith and Taylor should have the same approach.

I just heard Joe Davis say what Machado did was legal. I’m quite certain he is wrong. So I looked it up.

WILLFUL AND DELIBERATE INTERFERENCE
Rules 6.01(a)(5-7), 5.09(a)(13), 5.09(b)(3), 6.01(j):
Rules 6.01(a)(6) and 6.01(a)(7) were added to the Official Baseball Rules to add an additional penalty when a base runner or a batter-runner deliberately and intentionally interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball to deprive the defensive team of an opportunity to complete a possible double play. Keep in mind the rules provide that the runner or batter-runner must interfere with the obvious attempt to break up a double play.

Rule 5.09(a)(13) was added to the Official Baseball Rules “to penalize the offensive team for deliberate, unwarranted, unsportsmanlike action by the runner in leaving the baseline for the obvious purpose of crashing the pivot man on a double play rather than trying to reach the base.”

There hasn’t been a lot of follow up on that play, which kinda surprises me.

Jimbo

The announcers said it was legal last night and tonight. The studio crew thought it was interference last night.

In the act of fielding, not in the act of throwing. And he didn’t try to crash into the pivot man

There’s more to it. A base runner hit by a thrown ball is guilty of interference only if the runner intentionally touches the ball, or otherwise alters or deflects the course of the thrown ball.

Was that intentional? Uh, yeah.

Can the pads get any luckier? That play on Ohtani and Arraez looking like a gold glover. The umpire should have used the right arm. Freaking peralta couldn’t do anything for the Dodgers. A long way to go but I like the Dodger energy. The dodgers better keep scoring.

Eric

Doc’s doing good with the bullpen decisions, but after Phillips, he only has two more good relievers. Someone has to go multiple innings unless the Dodgers make it a blowout and he could use the two holes in the bullpen or Knack.

You got it right. Dodgers blowing them out, so Knack gets the 9th-inning.

Therealten

He may be wishing he had a lefty later for Merrill. We better score more runs. He is going to have to go with some risky pitcher. He has already used his best pitchers. Of course Phillips is still in.

In a quick camera shot to the BP I think I saw Flaherty sitting out there. I think he might be asked to take down an inning or two.

Doubt we’ll be seeing Casparius or Henriquez tonight, maybe Knack but that scares the heck out of me.

Bluto

Presuming (but not hoping for) no more Dodger runs…

Hopefully Phillips goes through the 6th. Then a combo of Knack/Hudson for 7th or 8th.

Trienen for 9th.

NO reason to go to Flahrety. NONE.

Don’t fuck this up.

Hmmm. Could Phillips go longer?

Gavin Lux after the All-Star break: .304/.391/.508.

So far in the NLDS: .357, .946 OPS.

It understandably took him time to get his rhythm and timing back after missing all of last season.

He’s quietly been one of baseball’s best hitters.

Also. Quiet has become all those who were looking for the team to move on from him.

Doc did a good job with the bullpen. Brasier is really good against RHB, so starting him allowed Doc to use him against Tatis, Machado, Profar to set the tone and the offense showed up. He used all seven of the good relievers that I said in an earlier post that he should do. I’m not a staunch supporter, but I’ll give him credit when credit is due. Good job.

Certainly not me. My strategy of expecting the worst paid off.
Four games, with two blowouts. A blowout is never really dramatic, but this one sure sets up Game 5 back in LA.
I’m hoping Freddie heals quickly.
Meanwhile, the Mets faithful are talking about “destiny,” and the Tigers are looking like Cinderella.
Come on, Dodgers…. just one more for a showdown with the Mets.

This game was skillfully managed by Dave Roberts. It was almost surgical. Kudos to him, and let’s give him some well deserved credit.

What a great effort from the entire club. The bullpen was fantastic. See you on friday!!!

If Roberts said or did anything to help the Dodgers bats heat up, then he should replicate it for the rest of the playoffs.

Shildt gambled for the knock-out punch by starting his ace on short rest for this game. It backfired BIGLY on him, ’cause Cease never had it from the get-go.The repercussions for Friday’s Game 5 will be interesting.
