Game Five Summary: WORLD CHAMPS!!. Dodgers Come From Behind to Win!!!!!

Game Five: Yankee Stadium New York City: The stage is set. Dodgers up 3-1 sending Jack Flaherty to the mound against Yankee ace, Gerrit Cole. Cole pitched an excellent game in game one but left after 88 pitches. He nor Flaherty were involved in the decision. By the way, I still think the FOX broadcast leans towards a NY bias. Have the sound turned off.

Dodger first: Ohtani leading off flies out on the first pitch to center. Betts grounded out to first. Cole has made 4 pitches, and he has 2 outs. Freeman flied out to Verdugo. Cole retires the side on 7 pitches. Yankee first: Torres leading off grounded out to Lux. Soto walked on 5 pitches. Judge homered to right center field. NY 2-0. Chisholm homers to right center, 3-0 NY. Stanton lined out to center; Kike made a diving catch.  Rizzo called out on strikes. Flaherty has made 26 pitches, only 13 for strikes.

Dodger second: Teo leading off strikes out swinging. Muncy called out on strikes. Kike flied out to right. Cole has made 19 pitches in 2 innings.  Yankee second: Volpe leading off doubles to left. Wells grounds out, Freeman to Flaherty, Volpe to third. Verdugo singled to right, Volpe scores, 4-0 NY.  Banda relieves Flaherty. Torres called out on strikes. Soto up and a wild pitch moves Verdugo to second. Soto walks. Judge walks to load the bases. Chisholm grounded to Freeman, out at first, Banda covering.

Dodger third: Edman leading off called out on strikes. Smith popped out to first. Lux walks, first LA baserunner. Ohtani flied out to left. Yankee third: Brasier in to pitch for the Dodgers. Stanton homers to right, 5-0 Yankees.  Rizzo lines out to Betts as Mookie makes a diving catch. Volpe flies out to Betts. Wells strikes out swinging.

Dodger fourth: Betts leading off walks. Freeman flied out to deep center field on a great catch by Judge. Teo grounded out to SS, Betts to second. Muncy lined out to Judge. Yankee fourth: Kopech now pitching. Verdugo leading off walks. Torres popped out to SS. Soto singled to right. Verdugo to second. Judge flies out to Teo, 2 down. Chisholm called out on strikes. First scoreless inning by a Dodger pitcher in this game.

Dodger fifth: Kike leading off singles for the first Dodger hit. Edman aboard on an error by Judge. Kike to second. Smith reaches on a ground ball that Volpe throws to third, misplayed by Torres. Ruled an error on Volpe. Bases loaded; Lux strikes out swinging. Ohtani strikes out swinging. Betts singles on a grounder to Rizzo, Cole fails to cover first, Kike scores. 5-1. Freeman singles to center, Edman and Smith score, Betts to third, 5-3 NY. Teo doubles to center, Betts and Freeman score! 5-5. Muncy walks. Kike up for second time. Kike hits into a force play. Yankee fifth: Vesia now pitching for LA. Stanton grounds out Lux to Freeman. Rizzo lined out to Kike. Volpe singles to right. Wells hit by the pitch, Volpe to second. Verdugo walks. Torres flies out to Betts.

Dodger sixth: Edman leading off, Cole still pitching. Edman lined out to Verdugo. Smith strikes out swinging.  Lux flied out to Soto. Yankee sixth. Graterol replaces Vesia for LA. Soto leading off walks, his 3rd of the game, and the 6th for the Yankees. Judge walks. Ball four call by Rippenger was awful. Chisholm grounds into a force out. Soto to third. Stanton hits a sac-fly to center, Soto scores, 6-5 NY. Rizzo walks, Chisholm to second. Treinen in to pitch for LA. Dodgers only have Knack, Casparius, Honeywell, and Hudson left in the pen. Volpe grounds out to second, Lux to Freeman.

Dodger seventh: Cole still pitching. Ohtani leading off grounds out to SS. Betts grounds out to the pitcher. Freeman walks. Holmes replaces Cole for NY. Teo walks, Freeman to second. Muncy called out on strikes. Yankee seventh: Treinen still pitching. Wells leading off strikes out on a foul tip. Verdugo called out on strikes. Torres grounds out, Muncy to Freeman. First clean inning of the game for Dodger pitching.

Dodger eighth: Kahnle in to pitch for NY. Kike leading off singles to left. Edman singles to SS. Kike to second. Smith walks, loading the bases. Weaver replaces Kahnle. Lux hits a sac-fly to center, Kike scores 6-6, Edman to third. Ohtani reaches first on catcher’s interference. Call under review. Call upheld. Betts hits a sac fly to center, Edman scores, 7-6 LA. Smith to third. Freeman strikes out swinging. Yankee eighth: Soto, Judge and Chisholm due up. Treinen still pitching. Soto leading off grounds out, Freeman to Treinen. Judge doubles to left. Chisholm walks, the Yankees 9th walk of the game. Stanton flies out to Betts. Rizzo strikes out swinging. Yankees 1-10 with RISP.

Dodger ninth: Teo, Muncy and Edman due up. Teo singles to left. Taylor runs for Teo. Muncy flies out to Soto.  Taylor to second on third pickoff try. Kike walks. Leiter Jr. replaces Weaver. Edman strikes out swinging. Smith grounds out to third. Yankee ninth: Buehler in to pitch for LA. Volpe leading off grounds out to third. Wells strikes out swinging. Verdugo strikes out swinging! Dodgers win the World Series!

                                                                                                                                       Game Summary

Dodgers come back from largest deficit to win a clinching game in history. Buehler gets the save! Yankees made 3 big errors.

Never doubted them for a minute.

Cassidy

Not bad for a pitcher who many didn’t even want on the post season roster!

Jeff

LOL

TennisMenace

I did through the first 4 innings….

Eric

Even better because it was against the Yankees.👍🏻

OhioDodger

And Verdugo striking out to make the last out.

He is a putz.

Scott Andes

He not like us…He not like us….

tedraymond

What a terrific way to win the World Series. A complete organizational victory. Congratulations to all involved.

Enjoy everyone. We all deserve and appreciate the championship. The most of nominating team in MLB for the last decade.

Carry on.

Badger

Shut those pre-game former Yankees up. Big Papi got it right though.

Now I can sleep. Maybe

OhioDodger

How Sweet It Is!!!

OhioDodger

Sure will be nice to not have to listen to all the “Haven’t won a full season WS since 1988” assholes.

Watford Dodger

4am here. No chance of any sleep after that.

What a way to win it!

Best team in the Regular Season becomes the World Series winner!

We are world series champions 2024.We are freaking awesome. What a hel of ateam. We kicked butt.Do you know how great we are. I am feeling pretty darn rocky and unbelievably happy. Thank you

Cassidy

This should at least give Roberts a month or two next year before the calls to fire him start up!

OhioDodger

That long? LOL.

TennisMenace

Even though I haven’t always agreed with his bullpen moves, I still love that man. And no, any discussion about replacing him is not in my vocabulary.

Jeff

My only criticism of the game was I would have started Buehler, not Flaherty. Flaherty has become a B list starter, imo. Too many HRs. But, I loved the way Doc handled the rest of the game and didn’t tarry too long with pulling anyone who was in trouble, like Hudson. Doc earned a criticism pass from me for next season. He was genuinely beside himself and ecstatic with the win. Great to see from a manager.

Can this possibly be the best Dodger team ever? I can’t remember a better Dodger team. A healthier one, for sure, but not better than this mob. Next season is going to be very interesting in as far as adding or subtracting players from this mob. Nice to see Freddie have his mind taken from his personal woes for a while. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. High praise from me to all.

OhioDodger

Hope they bring Kike, Buehler, and Treinen back and extend Edman. I am almost sure they bring Rojas ans Barnes back. Pass on Kelly and Flaherty.

TennisMenace

100% agre….i would add Teoscar to that bring back list too.

OhioDodger

Yes, if he will settle for a 2 year deal and club option for 3rd year.

Jimbo

My only concern with re-signing Buehler is the contract parameters. What if he hurts his elbow again?

OhioDodger

That pretty much sums it up for all pitchers these days.

TennisMenace

Buehler’s salary just went up big time with this WS performance. Would you pay the man? I would…

OhioDodger

Yes. Gotta bring Buehler back.

TennisMenace

100% agree….i love a guy who was willing to do what he could to help us win. Very unselfish…pay the man.

OhioDodger

Dodgers really need to move on from Taylor. Just eat the money and resign Kike.

OhioDodger

Needs to make it twice.

Bluto

Had a discussion at last night’s event.

In this luxury tax era, can the Dodgers be considered a dynasty?

I thought so even without today’s victory.

Cassidy

And if it wasn’t for the trash cans in 17 it would be three in eight years! That’s a dynasty to me.

Last edited 6 days ago by Cassidy
Jeff

I think it’s close if we consider just the Pennants and not making it to the WS. The Warriors one 3 rings before they were called a dynasty. They were perennially in the Finals for several years.

Bluto

This is the fifth straight season in which a Will Smith wins a World Series:

2024: C Will Smith (LAD)
2023: LHP Will Smith (TEX)
2022: LHP Will Smith (HOU)
2021: LHP Will Smith (ATL)
2020: C Will Smith (LAD)

And, four of the last six World Series have been finished by a former OKC pitcher!

2019 – Daniel Hudson
2020 – Julio Urías
2021-22 – N/A
2023 – Josh Sborz
2024 – Walker Buehler

What’s the Mendoza line for as old as fuck?

Wayne

I’m happy for all Dodgers fans of all ages!

Norcaldodgerfan

I doubted they could come back tonight but remained positive. What a win, what a team.

Doc made all the right moves.

Duke Not Snider

Yep.
When they fell behind 5-0, I figured, “That’s OK. The series will come back to LA and Yamamoto will give us the edge.”
Then the Yankees betrayed themselves with shoddy defense–Judge’s muff, Volpe’s spiked throw, Cole’s failure to cover 1B. All in the same inning.
Of course it was Freddie who came up with the big hit in that inning.
Speaking of Freddie, one broadcast reported that in game 4 he had recorded his fastest sprint speed of the year to beat out that double-play ball to drive in a run. Adrenaline prevails over a sore ankle.
It was also reported that our Dodgers recorded the largest comeback ever to close out a WS. Nice.
And how about Buehler? I assumed this would be a day off, heh heh, in case of a game seven.
Nice way to cap off a big personal comeback.
Surely AF will make Buehler a good offer to return for a few more seasons.

dodgerram

Absolutely . Hats off to DR. Been critical of him in the past but this postseason was a managerial masterpiece.

Said they needed one more hero after Game 3 and they got it with Treinen in Game 5.
What an unbelievable job he did . 2.1 scoreless innings and you could see he was running on fumes.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TennisMenace

Or in his case, he would tell you he was running on the power of the Holy Spirit….he is a staunch believer in Jesus as the Messiah.

Northmsdodger

I am a Christian also and I am not ashamed to admit that I was praying that the Lord would help our Dodgers play to the best of the talent that he gave them.

TennisMenace

Good prayers….why would you even think of being ashamed. The Bible encourages us to “be anxious for nothing, but in ALL THINGS make your requests known unto God….” (Philippians 4:6). Cheers…

Scott Andes

You guys are all wonderful! All is right with the World. Love you all….

YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cassidy

I can’t wait till next year!!!!!

dodgerram

Yeah, lets run it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And with a couple of moves next years team could be even better than this years .

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott Andes

Wait til you see me at the parade tomorrow….

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They not like us…..they not like us…………

OhioDodger

I’m sure the Wanker fans will blame Boony for the defensive meltdown for the game 5 loss.

Bluto

In all seriousness, where is Jeff?

Keith

Roberts did a great job of managing in this whole playoff season.

Keith

I kept saying to my wife “they just need to score one this inning” I didn’t expect them to get all five back at one time. Unbelievable

OhioDodger

Keith

I just had a great thought the Dodgers are 3-2 against the Yankees during my lifetime in the World Series

Even without the Yankees shocking 5th-inning meltdown, the Dodgers were destined to win this series anyway ..because they ARE the better team!!

Badger

Box says 5 unearned runs.

Thank you Gnu Yourk.

The best team won. And they did it without any help from Ohtani.

Now, who stays and who goes? 4 months to work on it.

TennisMenace

I’ve been very vocal about this….sorry to be redundant, but the guys who perform under playoff pressure our must keeps. That list is obvious:
Kike
Teoscar
Edman
Treinen
Buehler

If you just want to win the West and not the WS, then sure, you don’t need these guys….but if your goal is to win the WS you absolutely cannot dismiss PROVEN PLAYOFF PRESSURE STUDS like the above 4. Pay the men and work it out….thanks to Sho O, he has allowed you to use his money to keep them around.

Just to remind you guys, we got rid of Kike after our 2020 WS win and how did that work out for us in the subsequent playoffs? Not to well…we didn’t have playoff pressure proven studs. We get Kike back and there ya go…please don’t let him and his “brother”, Teoscar, leave the city.

Last edited 6 days ago by TennisMenace
OhioDodger

Yep, AF let Kike walk and resigned Taylor. But if I remember correctly, Kike wanted a full time starting gig and the Dodgers could not commit to that. Taylor was OK with his part time utility role.

Wally Moonshot

Back then Taylor wasn’t a swing and miss machine and Kike’ wanted more playing time so it made sense. I would definitely keep him this time around.

Wayne

Top priority: AF needs to extend Edman’s contract.

Jeff

I doubt he is going anywhere…………

OhioDodger

Give him the Taylor deal. 4 years/$60M.

philjones

Wow, what a great win and great series. I just couldn’t be happier for Doc, all the players and the organization. Especially Freddie Freeman. He’s a warrior and has gone through a lot.
It going to take me some time to process this whole season and make comments down the road.
But for now, my happiest and more heartfelt image of this whole experience was tonight, seeing a bright eyed kid in a Yankee hat with his glove, eyes as big as saucers, soaking up the moment, transfixed on his heroes, from his seat down the right field line, first row.
Someday I hope handsome Anthony Young can tell his grandkids about this night and his experience at Yankee Stadium, despite the disappointment of a Yankees loss.
See, Anthony was sitting in the seats vacated by the A-holes who tried to pry the ball from Mookie’s glove, the night before.
Good for the Yankees who generously saw fit to give those seats to this kid.
See, Anthony is a cancer patient and who knows how his future will play out? But he got to have the moment of his life.
We can all get caught up in the wins and losses, but in the big picture Anthony is what matters. He is what the game can bring to a wide eyed kid.
We should all remember that this is really what it’s all about.
I’ll talk baseball tomorrow.

Sam Oyed

Well said.

dodgerram

Great post, Phil.I hope with all my heart that Anthony defeats the monster and lives a long, happy life in which he will see his favorit team win the WS one day.

Thank you for putting things into perspective.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff

I thought that the anti-cancer moment was a profound statement. Everone standing with hand written prayers naming their loved ones. Wow, impressive.

Bumsrap

He had tickets for game 3 or 4 but had to return home before the game started because he felt sick. Makes the story more powerful.

OhioDodger

Wow. Great story about Anthony. Kudos to the Yankees for making that happen for the kid. I hope he wins his battle with cancer.

dodgerram

Oh.My.God.
We wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a thriller!I did not hold true to my word and watched it . And I am glad I did!1
Most thrilling, stressful, nervewrecking, joyful baseball game I can remember.
Butane with his best Bulldog impersonation when he came out for the bottom of the 9th to lock it down.
I am so proud of this guys how they overcame every injury, every adversity a team can encounter in a baseball season. So glad they won it all this season.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TennisMenace

They both help contribute some, so I wish them well in their next lives.

dodgerram

“Grown men but children again”
(Steve Nelson after the final out had been recorded. A must listen for every Dodgers fan)

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TennisMenace

Well put, Michael. My appreciation for Dave and Freddie has skyrocketed after these playoffs.

I still have not fully recovered from that grand slam Freddie hit in game 1. Wow, what a moment.

RC Dodger

And James Paxton as well. He was third on the team in starts this year with 18, and with an 8-2 record, the best winning % of any starter. An amazing number of players contributed throughout the year to the championship. A total team effort!

OhioDodger

Wow. A lot of names I had forgotten. And for good reason.

SandyAmoros

Alls well that ends well. Thanks to this community for allowing an old buck to celebrate a Dodger world series with true Dodger Fans

SandyAmoros

Thanks Bear love this picture

Wally Moonshot

Love seeing everyone in suits and ties. Including the ump!

Zeke

WOW! Almost went to bed before the comeback started with 5 run inning. Glad I didn’t. SWEET VICTORY. Wish my brother was here to enjoy it. Let’s do it again next year!!

dodgerram

Judge did not make an error all year long. Imagine that.
And Cole probably never fails to cover 1st base like that. Unbelievable it happens in the same inning in a WS game. Dodgers were the team of destiny.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TennisMenace

RE-SIGN BOTH HERNANDEZ

MAKE SURE TREINEN GETS PAID ACCORDINGLY

MAKE KOPECH OUR CLOSER IF NOT TREINEN

OhioDodger

Someone will overpay for Teo in both dollars and years. We will see how much staying with the Dodgers means to him. I would offer a 2 year deal with a club option for a 3rd year. $50M for 2 years, $25M club option for 3rd year, $1M buyout. I would prefer they go after Santander. Signing Adames and extending Edmon makes a lot of sense. But, pitching should be the priority.

Northmsdodger

Crap fellas,I love Teo.He is exactly the kind of player you want.He hits in the clutch.Great attitude, loves being a Dodger.I think if we want him he will be here.

Wally Moonshot

In my opinion I see him going to the Mets who will offer him a dump truck full of money. He says he loves New York. I think the Dodgers need to focus on pitching and finding a third baseman who can make contact more often.

Badger

Sounds like off season stuff has already begun.

dodgerram

Too early for me. I only want to enjoy the moment . 😀
will save player movement for after the parade at least.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Watford Dodger

Having had a few hours to let the dust settle a few bits I’ve been chewing on,

Good news is I’m $3,446 richer this morning (at today’s exchange rate). I’m away with the boys celebrating a friend’s 60th on an 80s themed weekend so gonna raise a glass or two in celebration.

World Series and Post Seasons in general seem to always produce unlikely heroes. Tommy Edman in the NLCS was the catalyst, a type of player many of us have been banging the drum for. A contact hitter who does all the fundamentals well. He was very important in defeating the Padres.

The return and then the performance of Blake Treinen was crucial. He really became Doc’s go to man, and he admitted as much afterwards. Im
not sure we’d have won without him executing in the key moments.

Doc has learned from past experience and seems to have a better feel for his Bullpen use.
Of course he needs people to perform when deployed, but he had a very solid game plan, and knew which battles to fight. He really had an excellent season.

As I watched Mookie race across the turf at the end, it struck me how overjoyed he was. After all this was his third WS win, but he seemed particularly happy, and in fact the celebrating suggested to me that this one meant a lot to the whole team.

Maybe it’s just me but my thoughts immediately turned to Jason Hayward and Miguel Vargas, and wondered how they were feeling. Michael has listed all the other contributors who should also get Rings. They must have mixed emotions.

Although I wasn’t overly confident of beating the Padres, once we had I was very confident we would go on and win it all. I’m still not that impressed with the Yankees. Yes they have some thunder in Judge, Soto and Stanton, but not a lot else. Cole is top class, but after him not much, and so it proved.

AF gave us a Club with so much depth that we were able to overcome many challenges. We lost Phillips for the WS and yet the Pen didn’t miss a beat.

Clayton Kershaw clearly stated that he would be a lifelong Dodger. That settles that.

Also we can forget the notion that a week off after the season is detrimental. It makes no difference at all.

Defence is important. With better defence we would be playing game 6 on Friday night.

I couldn’t help but wonder what Juan Soto was thinking as he was watching the celebrations?

Finally – has there ever been a better time to be a Dodger fan???

Well said W.

The Dodgers have won 7 World Series Championships since moving to LA in ‘58. I also came to LA in ‘58. 7 Championships in 66 years. They’ve also lost 6, though one we know was stolen through a cheating scandal. As far ans I’m concerned MLB still has egg on their face for that one. The Dodgers also been to the post season 30 times since ‘58. Championships are rare.

I’ve been here for all of it. And I can say with conviction, we are fortunate to be Dodger fans.

Well done Andrew. And Doc, you’ve taken a lot of crap from haters over the years. But the truth is, you’ve done quite well here. Clearly you did a masterful job with this group. So I say thank you. I’m grateful you are here and hope you stay a very long time.

Jeff

I had no choice in becoming a Dodger fan. Born in Brooklyn. Saw the games at Ebbetts Field. Saw their first WS win. This is the best team they’ve ever had, I think, and the best FO. I don’t always agree with them, but damn they are good.

TennisMenace

I feel for Hayward, not for Vargas. The latter had his chances…just couldn’t deliver the goods. The former was a guy I hated to lose…wish he were here to celebrate with us.

Dionysus

Congrats, Jeff. Fuck the haters. Peace out.

Cassidy

If you want some good reading go back to the blog after game 3 loss to the Padres. Hilarious! Especially liked your line Scott.

OMG.

there are receipts everywhere! Roster construction, that game where the team didn’t retaliate after an HBP, something about Mickey Mouse (seriously), the hitting instructor, the team was too old, questioning YY, fearing the trade deadline.

TBH, I STILL think CT3 should have been DFA’d

OhioDodger

Dodgers need to resign Kike and DFA Taylor.

OhioDodger

AF just doesn’t want to admit he made a huge mistake.

Badger

Why should he?

OhioDodger

To DFA Taylor and make the team better.

Keith

Taylor hit .333/.370 in September and October (regular season) after going back to his old swing, now that may be an anomaly, and he may suck next year, but why just throw away the 15 mil. My guess is he gets the chance to comes to spring training to show the front office if he can pull his weight or not. If he’s fixed himself I’m sure the team would love to have the old CT3 back, if not then you cut him when there is a need for his roster spot. It costs the team no extra money to give him ST. I think they keep him at least through ST.

Bluto

So let me get this straight. He was crap for most of the regular season. Often a negative OPS plus. And crap again in the playoffs. Takes up a valuable roster spot, but because he had six weeks of mediocre play you keep them on the roster?

Keith

This isn’t personal with me, I don’t care much one way or the other, I’m just trying to give all of the guys here that want him DFAd a reason why I don’t think the FO does it until at least opening day. He’s not taking a valuable spot on the roster until the rule 5 draft at the very soonest, so other than throwing away 15 mil why not wait until opening day?

OhioDodger

I don’t believe I ever mentioned WHEN to release him Keith. He has been crap for 3 years.

Keith

Ok my bad

norcaldodgerfan

Watched the highlights again this AM and will probably watch them again a couple hundred more times this off season. I’ll probably forget a few but what a clutch performance by FF, Teo and Treinen last night. Mookie and Lux got scoring fly balls done in the 8th inning to tie and then go ahead, but FF and Teo got the big hits in the 5th inning after the Yankees defense went to shit and against a pitcher who was dueling and had the Dodgers hitless up to that point.

Treinen was nothing short of spectacular. I loved when Doc came out and Blake told him he wanted Stanton and then got him to fly out.

Took the Yankees down with just three SP, no Phillips and no offense from Muncy, Smith and Ohtani. Edman is a stud, Doc made all the right moves, AF is genius and team played collectively as a team. So proud of the boys.

TennisMenace

I feel bad for Ohtani….I’m sure he wanted to do more and feels badly that he didn’t, but his dislocated shoulder didn’t help matters. I was surprised he was able to swing the bat like he did, although at times, it looked painful.

We definitely did miss Phillips. We did have a handful of questionable bullpen pitchers that made me close my eyes when they came in:
Honeywell
Hudson
Graterol
Casparius
Knack

Phillips would have given us 4 quality studs that we generally could count on to deliver the goods:
phillips
Treinen
Kopech
Vesia
Banda
Brazier

dodgerram

Shohei will mash in the 2025 WS an we will run it back.
Next years team might be even better than this years if we can stay healthy and bring in 2-3 new guys.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TennisMenace

Every Yankee fan who says, “you are lucky Judge was off his game this series”…..my response is always, “and you are lucky Ohtani hurt his shoulder and was off this series.”:

OhioDodger

And that Muncy, Lux, and Smith did not show up.

Wally Moonshot

I predict good things for Casparius going forward. For a guy with so little MLB experience he did pretty well.

Last edited 6 days ago by Wally Moonshot
TennisMenace

100% agree with you, Wally. He won me over with his performance in the playoffs. He never looked overwhelmed. I hope he can replace Flaherty, whom I’m pretty sure will not be back next year.

Joisyboy1948

Feeling great this morning even though I only got about three hours of sleep last night. It was a dream scenario. What a way to win a game! Couldn’t have been any more thrilling. Beating the Yankees makes it 10 time better!

Make Mine Blue

That was something else, an awesome something else for sure. Upon awaking this morning I began to rethink the WS, it dawned on that in some ways the true MVP of the series was Aaron Judge. He did next to and nearly nothing for the Yanks offense and he started the Dodgers dramatic come from behind victory in the 5th inning. Dodgers don’t win without Judge in the line-up every night, lol.

I knew Buehler would come thru as a starter, hadn’t even considered him to be the ultimate closer but once he came into the came I knew it was in the bag (my thoughts of Hershiser doing the same thing in 1988 came rushing into my cranium). Who knew that St. Christopher was the patron saint of pitchers (check out the massive tat on Buehler’s back, damn that thing is massive).

Obviously the second best team in MLB was the Padres this season, they could be a force to reckon with. Getting by the Padres was the real championship apparently.

Damn, spotting the Yanks 5 runs just made that game that much more exciting and sweeter.

Have mercy FOX, no more My Dawg Awards, please. That just got to be pathetic, I think Poppi has fun and everything but the size of his ego was the main take-away from those post game shows.

We could thank the Padres for us winning this WS. Because they pushed us hard throughout the entire season and 1st playoffs, the team never had downtime to just go through the motions. We had to show up just about every game to both win the West and the playoffs.

Thank you Padres.

Keith

That is a very good point TM
This team seemed much more ready to play in the playoffs, than they were the last couple of seasons.

Wow. What a ride. I believe that having to grind till the last day of the season to win the NL West made a big difference in their post season success. They had to play meaningful games all the way to the end of the season and that intensity carried over to the post season.

TennisMenace

You and I were having the same thoughts at the same time. Well said and as you can see, I completely agree with your assessment on what the Padres did for us.

OhioDodger

It is really the major difference from this years success and the 2022 and 2023 playoff failures. .

philjones

I had to let this one percolate overnight. There were so many peaks and valleys in this one. It was like 2 games in one. I like the fact that this team has patience and realizes that even down early, there is a lot of game left.

Both Badger and I said all along the “if the Dodgers don’t hit – they don’t win”. Well, we didn’t hit until that bazaar 5th inning. And on the evening we didn’t Slug at all but made contact and had productive sac flies from Lux and Mookie. And timely hitting from the “Butter and Egg Men”; Betts, Freeman and Teoscar. Ohtani, Muncy and Smith were absent offensively the entire series, But it’s a team game. This team has the great ability to pick up one anoher.
The Yankees giving the Dodgers 6 outs in the 5th will haunt them forever.
Seriously, a dropped fly ball, spiked throw to 3rd from 45 feet and Cole failing to cover first? Who would have predicted that?

I’m so happy for Freddie after all that he’s been through. He deserved the MVP, in spades.
My faith in Walker Buehler was rewarded. I’m sure glad that move worked or Doc would have been hung up by his nuts, by second guessers. In reality, Doc didn’t have many options.

I agree with Bear, when he reported Fox showing Yankee bias, especially the pregame show. I very much dislike Fox in general for several reasons. And I’ve been clear in my rants how much I dislike John Smoltz. I bet he talks in his sleep.

After the Yanks won one game, they suddenly were reported to be back and in control of the series. Fox showed a pregame report on Cole, from Google Cloud, that gave he a 58% chance to give up 2 or less runs. 58%, not 57% or 59%. How do they come up with that shit, anyway.

This season was such a long journey. It seems like a lifetime ago when I was at Camelback Ranch watching Spring Training. And these guys have played non-stop for 8 months. The ability to stay emotionally and physically competitive for so long is amazing. What a remarkable ride. Hats off to Doc and the staff who patched this season together somehow. This is a very special group with great character. Coaches always seek “OKG’s”. That’s “our kind of guys”. This team is loaded with OKG’s. Team chemistry is a real thing and this team has it.

Let’s all celebrate this remarkable season for a while before we all start chewing on all the off-season moves. Relax and enjoy these times that happen so seldom and are so FUN.

Singing the Blue

Contrary to some others, I don’t think Fox necessarily showed Yankee bias, but I would like to see all three of those guys replaced next year.

ARod can’t get enough of his own wisdom.
Papi is always enthusiastic, I’ll give him that, but he’s starting to be pretty repetitious.
And although I really admire Jeter, I find his comments and personality to be a bit boring.

Dump them all and next year add Joey Votto and Wainright and (when he retires), Kersh.

So do you think we sign Soto on the 4th or will we have to wait until the 5th? (sarcasm flag is raised and waving in the breeze).

Just for the record, I don’t see how the Yankees let him leave, no matter what they have to pay. The team is getting older and Soto is young. After playing so badly in the WS, they need to do something to appease their fanbase and signing Soto would go a long way to doing that. JMO.

Although they would get some negative feedback, it’s time to replace Boone, and Schumaker would be the ideal replacement to show those players how to do the little things correctly.

Bumsrap

Mets will help hike up Soto’s contract. All money aside, does he want to play with Ohtani and Betts, Lindor, or Judge?

OhioDodger

Papi and Jeter are tolerable. Can’t stand A-Fraud. Votto would be excellent. Ryan Dempster would also be good.

Badger

Agree. Rodriguez wasn’t even trying to hide it. Jeter was more subdued but how could he not be pro Yankee? They should have had a plan B. They didn’t.

OhioDodger

Fox was totally Yanker biased. Papi was OK, but the two Yankee dildos(Jeter and A-Fraud) were complete Yankee homers.

Bumsrap

Jeter and Rodriguez got to witness Dodgers dominate their Yankees. Winning 4 of 5 is dominating. So sad.

Wally Moonshot

Apparently the Yankees poor defense was a problem all season for them. Boy did it show up at the wrong time for them and the right time for the Dodgers. The Judge miscue was something you might see in a high school game — taking your eye off the ball — not a World Series game. Same with Cole not covering first— pure amateur hour. Those plays will be shown countless times for years to come.

I heard Judge made no errors this season….think about that….he gets his first in the final game of the WS.

Singing the Blue

A little late to the party but I want to add my congrats to a team that simply wouldn’t give up this year. Lots of the same guys who couldn’t do anything in the post season the past couple of years and suddenly they became fighters.

Special kudos to:

Doc, who admitted he could have been the Dodgers ex-manager had they lost to the Padres in the NLDS. This was far and away his best season as mgr and he deserves the extension AF will be handing him before ST.

Freddie, who overcame physical injury and the worry of his son’s physical problems to have a spectacular post season.

Treinen, who basically did not pitch (except for 5 innings) in the last two years, came back this year to throw about 50 great innings in the regular season and then, when he should have been totally out of gas had a good WS topped off by that last strike out when Doc left him out there.

And lastly, Walker (No Pulse) Buehler, who came back from the dead to close it out for us on two days rest when there simply weren’t any other decent options to take the ball in the 9th. He showed us the fighter he is by not throwing in the towel when his attempted return to the mound earlier this year was really ugly. He kept on plugging away, getting better each time out and with last night’s performance has almost definitely assured himself another Dodger contract.

What a year! And as others have pointed out, we should actually be better next year.

Singing the Blue

Anyone heard from Jeff? It’s a bit strange he hasn’t commented. Hope he’s OK.

Bear, is there any way you can try to contact him?

Bluto

Concur.

dodgerram

Dodgers should give Walker a 10 year 100 million contract with an opt out every year to make him secure financially for life. It may not be the huge contract he could have gotten without those injuries but still more than enough to afford him and his childeren and grandchildren a comfortable life.

He was monumental in the 2020 and now 2024 series. I doubt we win those two titles without him. And what balls to make himself available for this game. Other than Scherzer in 2021 he took the ball in a situation where he put his health at risk.
If he never throws a pitch for the Dodgers he has cemented his place among the all time greats forthis franchise.

Big time cojones and heart. Some guys are made for the big stage and Walker belongs among them.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Orel Sax

I will say this. Dave Roberts learned to manage a baseball team! No knee jerk reactions or miscommunications.

Buehler and Treinen are men of men. One of the greatest stories of the season is Buehler looking done, to getting the last outs in the deciding game en route to 10 consecutive scoreless postseason innings.

Special thanks to the Braves for doing Freddy dirty and him landing in our lap.

No thanks to the Angels. Ohtani would have been a Dodger straight from Japan if the DH was available to the NL. What a waste of 6 years for him.

So may other great stories on such a wonderful team…

Postseason Kike
Teo comes here wanting to win
Flaherty trade for a box of peanuts
Only 3 starters available for the post-season
The no closer bullpen
Tommy Freakin Edman!

Congratulations everyone.

And Alex Verdugo is not Gwynn-esque!

Manfred: MLB To Test Ball-Strike Challenge System In Spring Training
The sooner they implement this the better. Umpiring was terrible all season and into the playoffs.

OhioDodger

Just listening to Alanna Rizzo on High Heat. She was thanking the Red Sox for trading Mookie. After her thank you for Betts, she added the comment, and for taking Verdugo. I had to laugh.

Singing the Blue

She’s got to be the happiest Dodger fan of all today.
Said she would shave her head if we lost the series after being ahead 3-0.

dodgerram

She and her husband.😀

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
