Game Five: Yankee Stadium New York City: The stage is set. Dodgers up 3-1 sending Jack Flaherty to the mound against Yankee ace, Gerrit Cole. Cole pitched an excellent game in game one but left after 88 pitches. He nor Flaherty were involved in the decision. By the way, I still think the FOX broadcast leans towards a NY bias. Have the sound turned off.

Cole retires the side on 7 pitches. Yankee first: Torres leading off grounded out to Lux. Soto walked on 5 pitches. Judge homered to right center field. NY 2-0. Chisholm homers to right center, 3-0 NY. Stanton lined out to center; Kike made a diving catch. Rizzo called out on strikes. Flaherty has made 26 pitches, only 13 for strikes.
Dodger second: Teo leading off strikes out swinging. Muncy called out on strikes. Kike flied out to right. Cole has made 19 pitches in 2 innings. Yankee second: Volpe leading off doubles to left. Wells grounds out, Freeman to Flaherty, Volpe to third. Verdugo singled to right, Volpe scores, 4-0 NY. Banda relieves Flaherty. Torres called out on strikes. Soto up and a wild pitch moves Verdugo to second. Soto walks. Judge walks to load the bases. Chisholm grounded to Freeman, out at first, Banda covering.
Dodger third: Edman leading off called out on strikes. Smith popped out to first. Lux walks, first LA baserunner. Ohtani flied out to left. Yankee third: Brasier in to pitch for the Dodgers. Stanton homers to right, 5-0 Yankees. Rizzo lines out to Betts as Mookie makes a diving catch. Volpe flies out to Betts. Wells strikes out swinging.
Dodger fourth: Betts leading off walks. Freeman flied out to deep center field on a great catch by Judge. Teo grounded out to SS, Betts to second. Muncy lined out to Judge. Yankee fourth: Kopech now pitching. Verdugo leading off walks. Torres popped out to SS. Soto singled to right. Verdugo to second. Judge flies out to Teo, 2 down. Chisholm called out on strikes. First scoreless inning by a Dodger pitcher in this game.
Dodger fifth: Kike leading off singles for the first Dodger hit. Edman aboard on an error by Judge. Kike to second. Smith reaches on a ground ball that Volpe throws to third, misplayed by Torres. Ruled an error on Volpe. Bases loaded; Lux strikes out swinging. Ohtani strikes out swinging. Betts singles on a grounder to Rizzo, Cole fails to cover first, Kike scores. 5-1. Freeman singles to center, Edman and Smith score, Betts to third, 5-3 NY. Teo doubles to center, Betts and Freeman score! 5-5. Muncy walks. Kike up for second time. Kike hits into a force play. Yankee fifth: Vesia now pitching for LA. Stanton grounds out Lux to Freeman. Rizzo lined out to Kike. Volpe singles to right. Wells hit by the pitch, Volpe to second. Verdugo walks. Torres flies out to Betts.
Dodger sixth: Edman leading off, Cole still pitching. Edman lined out to Verdugo. Smith strikes out swinging. Lux flied out to Soto. Yankee sixth. Graterol replaces Vesia for LA. Soto leading off walks, his 3rd of the game, and the 6th for the Yankees. Judge walks. Ball four call by Rippenger was awful. Chisholm grounds into a force out. Soto to third. Stanton hits a sac-fly to center, Soto scores, 6-5 NY. Rizzo walks, Chisholm to second. Treinen in to pitch for LA. Dodgers only have Knack, Casparius, Honeywell, and Hudson left in the pen. Volpe grounds out to second, Lux to Freeman.
Dodger seventh: Cole still pitching. Ohtani leading off grounds out to SS. Betts grounds out to the pitcher. Freeman walks. Holmes replaces Cole for NY. Teo walks, Freeman to second. Muncy called out on strikes. Yankee seventh: Treinen still pitching. Wells leading off strikes out on a foul tip. Verdugo called out on strikes. Torres grounds out, Muncy to Freeman. First clean inning of the game for Dodger pitching.
Dodger eighth: Kahnle in to pitch for NY. Kike leading off singles to left. Edman singles to SS. Kike to second. Smith walks, loading the bases. Weaver replaces Kahnle. Game Summary
Dodgers come back from largest deficit to win a clinching game in history. Buehler gets the save! Yankees made 3 big errors.
Born June 14th, 1948, in Los Angeles California. AKA The Bear

Never doubted them for a minute.
Even better because it was against the Yankees.👍🏻
What a terrific way to win the World Series. A complete organizational victory. Congratulations to all involved.
Enjoy everyone. We all deserve and appreciate the championship. The most of nominating team in MLB for the last decade.
Carry on.
Shut those pre-game former Yankees up. Big Papi got it right though.
Now I can sleep. Maybe
How Sweet It Is!!!
Sure will be nice to not have to listen to all the “Haven’t won a full season WS since 1988” assholes.
4am here. No chance of any sleep after that.
What a way to win it!
Best team in the Regular Season becomes the World Series winner!
We are world series champions 2024.We are freaking awesome. What a hel of ateam. We kicked butt.Do you know how great we are. I am feeling pretty darn rocky and unbelievably happy. Thank you
Let’s do this again next year! Treinen with gutsy effort gets the win. Buehler gets the biggest save of his career. Freddie WS MVP!
Had a discussion at last night’s event.
In this luxury tax era, can the Dodgers be considered a dynasty?
I thought so even without today’s victory.
This is the fifth straight season in which a Will Smith wins a World Series:
2024: C Will Smith (LAD)
2023: LHP Will Smith (TEX)
2022: LHP Will Smith (HOU)
2021: LHP Will Smith (ATL)
2020: C Will Smith (LAD)
And, four of the last six World Series have been finished by a former OKC pitcher!
2019 – Daniel Hudson
2020 – Julio Urías
2021-22 – N/A
2023 – Josh Sborz
2024 – Walker Buehler
I’m happy for the guys that post here that are up there in age. I’m sorry for using those words “up there in age”, but I couldn’t figure out any other words to use. I’m happy for you guys.
I doubted they could come back tonight but remained positive. What a win, what a team.
Doc made all the right moves.
You guys are all wonderful! All is right with the World. Love you all….
YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m sure the Wanker fans will blame Boony for the defensive meltdown for the game 5 loss.
In all seriousness, where is Jeff?
Even without the Yankees shocking 5th-inning meltdown, the Dodgers were destined to win this series anyway ..because they ARE the better team!!
Dodgers Nation on cloud-nine tonight!!!
Top priority: AF needs to extend Edman’s contract.
Wow, what a great win and great series. I just couldn’t be happier for Doc, all the players and the organization. Especially Freddie Freeman. He’s a warrior and has gone through a lot.
It going to take me some time to process this whole season and make comments down the road.
But for now, my happiest and more heartfelt image of this whole experience was tonight, seeing a bright eyed kid in a Yankee hat with his glove, eyes as big as saucers, soaking up the moment, transfixed on his heroes, from his seat down the right field line, first row.
Someday I hope handsome Anthony Young can tell his grandkids about this night and his experience at Yankee Stadium, despite the disappointment of a Yankees loss.
See, Anthony was sitting in the seats vacated by the A-holes who tried to pry the ball from Mookie’s glove, the night before.
Good for the Yankees who generously saw fit to give those seats to this kid.
See, Anthony is a cancer patient and who knows how his future will play out? But he got to have the moment of his life.
We can all get caught up in the wins and losses, but in the big picture Anthony is what matters. He is what the game can bring to a wide eyed kid.
We should all remember that this is really what it’s all about.
I’ll talk baseball tomorrow.
Oh.My.God.
We wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a thriller!I did not hold true to my word and watched it . And I am glad I did!1
Most thrilling, stressful, nervewrecking, joyful baseball game I can remember.
Butane with his best Bulldog impersonation when he came out for the bottom of the 9th to lock it down.
I am so proud of this guys how they overcame every injury, every adversity a team can encounter in a baseball season. So glad they won it all this season.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Immediately after the game, Daniel Hudson announced that he is retiring from baseball. Along with Kevin Kiermaier, they go out with a ring.
Have not had a warm fuzzy feeling like this in a long time. LA gets its parade, Dave Roberts gets some vindication, and Freddie Freeman overcomes some of the worst days of his life to get the MVP award. Just a fitting end to a season of frustration.
These players who were with the Dodgers at some point this year will all most likely get rings. Jayson Heyward, James Outman, Cavan Biggio, Miguel Vargas, Nick Ahmed, Hunter Feduccia, Amed Rosario, Taylor Trammel, Ryan Yarbrough, Yohan Ramirez, Michael Petersen, Nick Ramirez, JP Feyereisen, Nabil Crismatt, Gus Varland, Dinelson Lamet, Eduardo Salazar, Zach Logue, Ricky Vanasco, Connor Brogdon.
Parade will be on Friday, plus there is a ticketed event at Dodger Stadium afterwards. Will be televised on Sportsnet.
WOW! Almost went to bed before the comeback started with 5 run inning. Glad I didn’t. SWEET VICTORY. Wish my brother was here to enjoy it. Let’s do it again next year!!
RE-SIGN BOTH HERNANDEZ
MAKE SURE TREINEN GETS PAID ACCORDINGLY
MAKE KOPECH OUR CLOSER IF NOT TREINEN
Going to take a break for a couple of days guys, at least until after the parade on Friday. Off season stuff will begin once the players start declaring free agency and such.
Having had a few hours to let the dust settle a few bits I’ve been chewing on,
Good news is I’m $3,446 richer this morning (at today’s exchange rate). I’m away with the boys celebrating a friend’s 60th on an 80s themed weekend so gonna raise a glass or two in celebration.
World Series and Post Seasons in general seem to always produce unlikely heroes. Tommy Edman in the NLCS was the catalyst, a type of player many of us have been banging the drum for. A contact hitter who does all the fundamentals well. He was very important in defeating the Padres.
The return and then the performance of Blake Treinen was crucial. He really became Doc’s go to man, and he admitted as much afterwards. Im
not sure we’d have won without him executing in the key moments.
Doc has learned from past experience and seems to have a better feel for his Bullpen use.
Of course he needs people to perform when deployed, but he had a very solid game plan, and knew which battles to fight. He really had an excellent season.
As I watched Mookie race across the turf at the end, it struck me how overjoyed he was. After all this was his third WS win, but he seemed particularly happy, and in fact the celebrating suggested to me that this one meant a lot to the whole team.
Maybe it’s just me but my thoughts immediately turned to Jason Hayward and Miguel Vargas, and wondered how they were feeling. Michael has listed all the other contributors who should also get Rings. They must have mixed emotions.
Although I wasn’t overly confident of beating the Padres, once we had I was very confident we would go on and win it all. I’m still not that impressed with the Yankees. Yes they have some thunder in Judge, Soto and Stanton, but not a lot else. Cole is top class, but after him not much, and so it proved.
AF gave us a Club with so much depth that we were able to overcome many challenges. We lost Phillips for the WS and yet the Pen didn’t miss a beat.
Clayton Kershaw clearly stated that he would be a lifelong Dodger. That settles that.
Also we can forget the notion that a week off after the season is detrimental. It makes no difference at all.
Defence is important. With better defence we would be playing game 6 on Friday night.
I couldn’t help but wonder what Juan Soto was thinking as he was watching the celebrations?
Finally – has there ever been a better time to be a Dodger fan???
Congrats, Jeff. Fuck the haters. Peace out.
Watched the highlights again this AM and will probably watch them again a couple hundred more times this off season. I’ll probably forget a few but what a clutch performance by FF, Teo and Treinen last night. Mookie and Lux got scoring fly balls done in the 8th inning to tie and then go ahead, but FF and Teo got the big hits in the 5th inning after the Yankees defense went to shit and against a pitcher who was dueling and had the Dodgers hitless up to that point.
Treinen was nothing short of spectacular. I loved when Doc came out and Blake told him he wanted Stanton and then got him to fly out.
Took the Yankees down with just three SP, no Phillips and no offense from Muncy, Smith and Ohtani. Edman is a stud, Doc made all the right moves, AF is genius and team played collectively as a team. So proud of the boys.
Feeling great this morning even though I only got about three hours of sleep last night. It was a dream scenario. What a way to win a game! Couldn’t have been any more thrilling. Beating the Yankees makes it 10 time better!
That was something else, an awesome something else for sure. Upon awaking this morning I began to rethink the WS, it dawned on that in some ways the true MVP of the series was Aaron Judge. He did next to and nearly nothing for the Yanks offense and he started the Dodgers dramatic come from behind victory in the 5th inning. Dodgers don’t win without Judge in the line-up every night, lol.
I knew Buehler would come thru as a starter, hadn’t even considered him to be the ultimate closer but once he came into the came I knew it was in the bag (my thoughts of Hershiser doing the same thing in 1988 came rushing into my cranium). Who knew that St. Christopher was the patron saint of pitchers (check out the massive tat on Buehler’s back, damn that thing is massive).
Obviously the second best team in MLB was the Padres this season, they could be a force to reckon with. Getting by the Padres was the real championship apparently.
Damn, spotting the Yanks 5 runs just made that game that much more exciting and sweeter.
Have mercy FOX, no more My Dawg Awards, please. That just got to be pathetic, I think Poppi has fun and everything but the size of his ego was the main take-away from those post game shows.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. What a ride. I believe that having to grind till the last day of the season to win the NL West made a big difference in their post season success. They had to play meaningful games all the way to the end of the season and that intensity carried over to the post season.
I had to let this one percolate overnight. There were so many peaks and valleys in this one. It was like 2 games in one. I like the fact that this team has patience and realizes that even down early, there is a lot of game left.
Both Badger and I said all along the “if the Dodgers don’t hit – they don’t win”. Well, we didn’t hit until that bazaar 5th inning. And on the evening we didn’t Slug at all but made contact and had productive sac flies from Lux and Mookie. And timely hitting from the “Butter and Egg Men”; Betts, Freeman and Teoscar. Ohtani, Muncy and Smith were absent offensively the entire series, But it’s a team game. This team has the great ability to pick up one anoher.
The Yankees giving the Dodgers 6 outs in the 5th will haunt them forever.
Seriously, a dropped fly ball, spiked throw to 3rd from 45 feet and Cole failing to cover first? Who would have predicted that?
I’m so happy for Freddie after all that he’s been through. He deserved the MVP, in spades.
My faith in Walker Buehler was rewarded. I’m sure glad that move worked or Doc would have been hung up by his nuts, by second guessers. In reality, Doc didn’t have many options.
I agree with Bear, when he reported Fox showing Yankee bias, especially the pregame show. I very much dislike Fox in general for several reasons. And I’ve been clear in my rants how much I dislike John Smoltz. I bet he talks in his sleep.
After the Yanks won one game, they suddenly were reported to be back and in control of the series. Fox showed a pregame report on Cole, from Google Cloud, that gave he a 58% chance to give up 2 or less runs. 58%, not 57% or 59%. How do they come up with that shit, anyway.
This season was such a long journey. It seems like a lifetime ago when I was at Camelback Ranch watching Spring Training. And these guys have played non-stop for 8 months. The ability to stay emotionally and physically competitive for so long is amazing. What a remarkable ride. Hats off to Doc and the staff who patched this season together somehow. This is a very special group with great character. Coaches always seek “OKG’s”. That’s “our kind of guys”. This team is loaded with OKG’s. Team chemistry is a real thing and this team has it.
Let’s all celebrate this remarkable season for a while before we all start chewing on all the off-season moves. Relax and enjoy these times that happen so seldom and are so FUN.
A little late to the party but I want to add my congrats to a team that simply wouldn’t give up this year. Lots of the same guys who couldn’t do anything in the post season the past couple of years and suddenly they became fighters.
Special kudos to:
Doc, who admitted he could have been the Dodgers ex-manager had they lost to the Padres in the NLDS. This was far and away his best season as mgr and he deserves the extension AF will be handing him before ST.
Freddie, who overcame physical injury and the worry of his son’s physical problems to have a spectacular post season.
Treinen, who basically did not pitch (except for 5 innings) in the last two years, came back this year to throw about 50 great innings in the regular season and then, when he should have been totally out of gas had a good WS topped off by that last strike out when Doc left him out there.
And lastly, Walker (No Pulse) Buehler, who came back from the dead to close it out for us on two days rest when there simply weren’t any other decent options to take the ball in the 9th. He showed us the fighter he is by not throwing in the towel when his attempted return to the mound earlier this year was really ugly. He kept on plugging away, getting better each time out and with last night’s performance has almost definitely assured himself another Dodger contract.
What a year! And as others have pointed out, we should actually be better next year.
I will say this. Dave Roberts learned to manage a baseball team! No knee jerk reactions or miscommunications.
Buehler and Treinen are men of men. One of the greatest stories of the season is Buehler looking done, to getting the last outs in the deciding game en route to 10 consecutive scoreless postseason innings.
Special thanks to the Braves for doing Freddy dirty and him landing in our lap.
No thanks to the Angels. Ohtani would have been a Dodger straight from Japan if the DH was available to the NL. What a waste of 6 years for him.
So may other great stories on such a wonderful team…
Postseason Kike
Teo comes here wanting to win
Flaherty trade for a box of peanuts
Only 3 starters available for the post-season
The no closer bullpen
Tommy Freakin Edman!
Congratulations everyone.
And Alex Verdugo is not Gwynn-esque!
Cool poster!
Manfred: MLB To Test Ball-Strike Challenge System In Spring Training
The sooner they implement this the better. Umpiring was terrible all season and into the playoffs.
Just listening to Alanna Rizzo on High Heat. She was thanking the Red Sox for trading Mookie. After her thank you for Betts, she added the comment, and for taking Verdugo. I had to laugh.
