OKC beat El Paso in 11 innings, 6-5. Gonsolin went 1.2 innings in his first rehab start. He gave up 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 1. Phillips pitched one inning allowing a run, one hit, a walk and he struck out 1. Knack allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in his 4.2 innings. Jacques got the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Ward was 4-4 with 3 RBIs. Rushing was 0-5 striking out 5 times. He is now hitting .188. OKC struck out 21 times. El Paso just 10. Kim had 2 hits, and Outman had 2 hits. The only extra base hits were doubles by Gauthier and Outman. Rosario was 1-5 and is hitting .381.
Thanks Jeff. Good info. Sure are a lot of names I don’t recognize there.
0 for 5 with 5 K’s? Sit him. And consider a position change.
Somebody needs to develop a mask that prevents concussions. Bilstein high tech SC650-H mini light weight shock absorbers in the cage and ortholite 4D 5.715 cm Eva Bisco foam padding behind it. There. I did it. Now somebody take this information and put it together.
I’m a mathematician not an engineer.
Outman knocked in Kim for the game-winner, right?
If he keeps hitting and Pages keeps flailing, Outman could get the call…
Happy for Feduccia, of course. Also a bit puzzled.
While I don’t pretend to understand the contractual ins and outs, I thought this was a “use him or lose him” moment for Bote, now on the “restricted list” and free to seek employment elsewhere.
Near as I can tell, Feduccia has only played two minor league games at 1B. I hope he gets a couple of starts at catcher this week. Seems like Feduccia is a just lefty-hitting bat until Freddie gets back.
Saw some video of Auger. He’s a big dude with a live arm, similar to Copen.
Rancho some really interesting guys: Jang, Lindsey, Elkins, Quintero, Vargas. Big upside and breakout potential.
Yes… Sirota too… And perhaps Rancho will add Emil Morales and Ching-Hsien Ko after the “extended spring training.”
Freeman to the IL. Who gets called up? Right now they can play Kike at 3B and Muncy at 1B for a week.
Based on their lack of announcement, I think they are probably working on something, maybe trying to trade a guy to make room on the 40 man, although there is that new no-name pitcher they recently added whom they could easily drop.
I see three legit possibilities: Ruiz, Bote, Outman
Perhaps they’re in talks with Bote to see about bringing him up.
I don’t think the majors will cure Outman’s hole in his bat.
Ruiz is far from the answer. Guy is a lousy fielder. And he is not that great of a hitter.
Well ok then
Feduccia gets the call. Good for him.
Seems like the brass just wanted to patch the roster with a lefty bat until Freddie returns.
Offensively, trading for Arenado and putting Edman in CF, but that leaves Max at 2nd. Big defensive compromise there, but more pop offensively
Arenado is not coming to LA. Period.
Take the period out and put a comma there.
Arenado is not coming to LA, but things may change closer to the deadline if he’s still having a great year and Max is having a lousy one.
Only certain types of people are allowed to make absolutist statements on this board. It’s crass hypocrisy but welcome to America I guess.
I haven’t been wrong about Arenado yet. And anyone here can make absolute statements anytime they please. If I am wrong, I will admit it.
You are often wrong and stubbornly don’t admit it.
No, you can keep the period.
There’s no chance they acquire Arenado.
None.
An anonymous Dodger executive said that if the Dodgers wanted Arenado, he would be a Dodger. Fans can want Arenado, but apparently the people who make those decisions do not agree.
That is exactly why I said what I did. If the Dodgers wanted Arenado, he would already be on the team. If he keeps playing the way he has, the price for him in a trade is only going to get higher.
But as STB said, things change. Max may continue to be below Mendoza with little power and p*** poor defense, and Arenado could continue to be productive both offensively and defensively. The Cardinals are going nowhere, and they want to dump Arenado’s salary. The Dodgers have the bandwidth to carry Arenado’s salary, and have the prospect capital to make it work. Right now (and in the offseason) there is no urgency to make such a move.
Yeah but some random dude on the internet named Bear says No so that pretty much settles that. Back to work.
I stand by what I said. Yeah, the Dodgers could change their minds, but I don’t see anything that says they will. If that bothers you, well too damn bad.
Period. 😀
Bote needs to be added to the 40 man, They can move Edgardo Henriquez to the 60-Day IL opening a spot. They can DFA Noah Davis. That is why trading Carlos Duran (non 40-man) for Esteury Ruiz and placing him on the 40-man made absolutely no sense.
With regards to Outman, IMO a change of scenery makes all the sense in the world. He is a MLB hitter, and has proven it. When he slows his swing down the ball jumps off his bat. When he takes the RVS/Aaron Bates school of hitting approach, he has gone into the toilet. The swing as hard as you can to get pull side poser with max launch angle does not work for Outman. When he overswings he pulls his head every time. When he hits, you can see the bat speed slow down just enough to keep his head on the ball, and his swing stays on top through the zone to the ball. A lot like Tommy Edman’s swing.
Does anyone really believe that Shohei/Mookie/Freddie/Teoscar listen to what those two preach? Chris Taylor, Max, Kiké? Yeah. Max more than makes up for it with his plated discipline and HR power. I think Will Smith’s approach to hitting when he is going good is not the same as when he is going bad. Don’t know if it is due to lingering injuries, but he has the RVS/Bates mentalithy.
BTW, can someone tell Kiké that it is October?
Here is the good James Outman swing who got the walkoff hit last night.
.
.
BTW, it had a 98.4 exit velo off a cutter which quite often he cannot handle. Simple approach. Quick to and through the ball.
That was a good rant, Jeff!
Will Smith has unbelievably short arms and his ability to get to the inside pitch might be unrivalled in the sport.
I swear he can muscle a line drive up the middle moving his swing a few inches.
Kike is probably a better third baseman than Max.
Max is probably a better first baseman than Kike.
But I bet they leave Max at third, since it’s only going to be six games (hopefully).
STB, I’m not trying to be a smart-ass but practically any of our utility infielders are better at 3rd then Muncy. He has tried hard to get better and he has. But he’s just not blessed with good skills. He’s in the line up for what he brings to the offense.
I agree.
So do I. For better or for worse, Muncy is the third baseman on this team comma.
The Dodgers had the answer to the centerfield problem, at least they thought they did, when they signed Kim and gave him Major League money. He’s the best middle infielder they have and he’s in OKC. Until further notice Edman is the best centerfielder on the 26, but he’s needed at Kim’s spot.
This defense isn’t going to be anywhere near the top of the league statistically but offense and pitching will keep them in contention. In the meantime, shopping for a true centerfielder is no doubt going on behind the scenes.
semi-colon, the only constant is change
semi-colon huh?
Sorry, but at my age I’m gonna need the entire colon.
ok, that was weak.
I get it, there may be something to follow at that position. Frankly with Freddie down I’d rather see Muncy at first.
elliptical comment–i gotta dash
— I got one too!
Everyone is looking to Bote, Kim, Ruiz, or Outman as possible replacements for Freddie. Kim, Ruiz, and Outman are on the 40-man so they are more logical. But if Bote needs to be added to the 40 man, why not give Ryan Ward a chance. He led PCL in HRs last year, and he is hitting .500 with an OPS 1.091. Yes small sample size, but what he has done so far this year, combined with what he did last year, Ryan Ward at least deserves the chance.
Feduccia gets the call
Good call by LAD. He has more than earned this. He can play 1B, but will he? Hunter Feduccia belongs full time in MLB.
I read that Feduccia has only played two games at 1B in the minors. Of course that could be wrong.
I hope he gets a couple of starts at catcher this week. Padding his ML resume will make him just a bit more attractive on the trade market.
FWIW, I wouldn’t rule out a deal for Arenado depending on how the season progresses for both teams.
Well, as usual I was completely wrong. It’s Feduccia and I’m happy about that because I feel bad he seems destined to be stuck in limbo all year. Tells me they expect the IL stint to be quick and it at least gets Fed some MLB at-bats. Happy for him and the answer was right under our noses.
(Ruiz, Bote–ha!)
I was trying hard for Ward, but Feduccia makes more sense. There were some in the blogosphere that correctly called Feduccia. I just ignored it because in my heart I want Ryan Ward to get a chance.
Ward’s not on the 40.
I know, but neither was Bote.
Who thought Bote was a serious option?
I did.
He was in limbo, on the “restricted list” at OKC. He is evidently free to shop himself to other teams–but I thought the Dodgers could promote him and not lose their spring training MVP. By some accounts, the Dodgers hitting coaches fixed Bote’s swing, and that his surge was not a small-sample fluke.
It seemed like a “use him or lose him” moment. Not sure if that’s true, but it seemed that way to me.
Just a few weeks ago, the question was whether Bote would make the 26-man roster. Did anybody here think Taylor outplayed him? Taylor, bless him, had a smart agent. Pages made the roster–but so far, so bad.
If Bote was an option–and I’m not sure about that–I think another proven UT guy makes a lot more sense than a 3rd catcher.
Pitching matchups for the Philadelphia series:
Friday – Yoshinobu Yamamoto (RHP) vs. Jesús Luzardo (LHP)
Saturday – Roki Sasaki (RHP) vs. Aaron Nola (RHP)
Sunday – Tyler Glasnow (RHP) vs Cristopher Sánchez (LHP)
Philadelphia is heavy with LH hitting, and they are the hitters that are making the most noise this early. The top four Philadelphia OPS comes from LHH:
· Kyle Schwarber – 1.165 with 4 HRs
· Max Kepler – .965
· Bryson Stott – .937
· Brandon Marsh – .888
It is only a matter of time before Bryce Harper gets untracked.
I was looking at the LAD strikeout ratios. Tommy Edman leads the team in HR and leads all qualified LAD hitters with a 12.1 K%. Mookie’s K rate of 4.5% is eye-popping, but he is 3 PA’s shy of being a qualified hitter. Mookie should be qualified by the end of the weekend.
Other qualified hitters and their K%:
· Shohei – 16.2%
· Smith – 21.4%
· Teo – 27.3%
· Pages – 36.7%
· Max – 39.3%
FWIW, Freddie has not struck out in his 12 PA.
Teo’s funny because he can look real bad early in then count then shortens up with two strikes [sometimes] to make contact. Underrated smart hitter.
Rockies are calling up RHSP Chase Dollander. He is one I have wanted to see at the MLB level. It will be interesting to see how he does in Colorado. His fastball is his money pitch, but he also relies on his curve. The curve in Colorado? He may have to depend more on his change.
In 122 MiLB IP, he has a 2.58 ERA with 174 Ks. His K/9 is 12.84. His .341 career BABIP indicates that his batted balls find a way of becoming hits. He has a lot of high leverage relief risk, but he is someone I am going to watch.
I read some more on Jackson Merrill’s contract. He is being criticized by some for signing a long term deal. “He could have got much more in free agency”. He is guaranteed $135MM for 9 years. He just wanted a deal that keeps him in SD and that will pay him more than he could have dreamed of. Let’s be honest, Scott Bora$ would not have let him sign this deal.
The other interesting factor in his contract is that he has 8 specific teams he has included as no trade. All eight teams are in the NL Central and AL Central. He wants to stay on the Coasts. He loves San Diego (who doesn’t), and he is from Maryland.
He’s already a superstar. Love his swing.
Muncy getting the day off against the lefty Luzardo. Kike at 1B.
Feast or famine for LAD hitters. They have four hitters with an OPS> 1.000 and five above .980. They also have four hitters hitting .200 or less with three of those with a .520 OPS or less (down to .181). The Phillies only have one hitter with an OPS > 1.000 (2 others above .900) but no batter is hitting below .238 or has an OPS lower than .582.
The Dodgers face two LHSP this weekend. Philadelphia also has 3 LHRP, including their closer. Pages needs to show up. He is in the lineup principally because of what he is supposed to be able to do against LHP. He has not done it yet. Same with Kiké. It should be an interesting weekend.
Phillies pitchers lead the majors with a 34.5-percent strikeout rate so far in 2025. Dodgers not far behind at 29.9 percent
Further on this. Per Ardaya:
Entering Thursday, the Dodgers had shown more high velocity than any team in the sport, firing 331 pitches tracked at 95 mph or more. The next closest was the Washington Nationals, at 254. The velocity plays up even more when opposing hitters haven’t gotten as many looks at the Dodgers’ fastballs as other teams: The Dodgers have thrown fastballs 50.6 percent of the time, the fifth-lowest percentage in baseball.
Interesting metric. But it does show that LAD likes and looks for power pitching.
Wow, Padres finally lose! Cubs win 3-1
Pressly looked like sugar honey iced tea. Absolutely no swing and miss stuff. Got bailed out by a generous strike call and two great defensive plays. Threw 30+ pitches and barely escaped with a save. Sell sell sell on that former Asstro cheater,*
*no period used out of respect for Bear, who doesn’t need ’em
73 pitches and 6 innings? Yoiks
Pages needs to go back to base running school.
With what he’s shown this season, I’m thinking Pages never went to that school.
I heard there’s one in Oklahoma City
That made no sense: Ohtani running with 2 outs and Mookie representing the tying run at the plate. Why?
that has to be the most boneheaded play Ohtani’s ever made in MLB
yep. I think he knows it.
Dodgers chased a lot today. This loss was coming eventually. Get ‘em tomorrow.
Sasaki was bad, then worse. Not sure if there is any reason to expect he’ll suddenly be all that much better tomorrow, especially in front of that crowd.
I have every confidence he will turn into a very good MLB pitcher but it may take a while.
I hear Oklahoma City is lovely in the spring.
Can you have five tools of ineptitude?
Good question. Can you name them?
No hit, no power, no speed, no glove and…..
No baseball sense.
Well, 5 for 5.
I still have hope for him. But how long will the Dodgers put up with this?
Perfect
I hope most of the recent posts are tongue-in-cheek.
otherwise people have lost their minds.
People everywhere are losing their minds Bluto. Why would people here be exempt?
