In their long history, the Dodgers have had some really good and a couple of great centerfielders. Hi, Myers, was the first full time CF who was close to being very good. He was 29 when he finally started playing like a star. Not a big average or power guy, Myers could cover a lot of ground in those old cavernous ball parks. Meyers played 11 of his 14 years with the Dodgers and hit .282 for them. He was a member of the 1916 and 1920 pennant winning teams.
Johnny Frederick was the next very good CF for Brooklyn. He came on the scene in 1929. He played his entire 6-year career in Brooklyn. He hit .308 as a Dodger. He had 85 HRs in his short career. But in 1929 he set a Dodger record that wasn’t broken until Freddie Freeman broke it in 2023. His 52 doubles were the high-water mark for a Dodger. His record stood for 94 years. In 1941, one of the most talented outfielders they ever had joined the team as a rookie and took over in center field. Pistol Pete Reiser.
Reiser hit .343 as a rookie. He was fearless, and that would be his downfall. Over his career Reiser suffered many concussions from his encounters with outfield walls, which in those days were not padded. His career would be cut short by those injuries, and over his 10-year career he only played more than 100 games four times. He still finished with a .295 BA. He would later become a Dodger coach and helped many young hitters get their bearings as major leaguers.
Their next full-time centerfielder would earn a place in the Hall of Famer. Edwin D. Snider was a California boy from Compton. He got the proverbial cup of coffee in 1948. In 1949 he became the Dodgers full time CF, and he would stay there until 1959 when an injury to his elbow forced his move to RF with Furillo injured most of the year. Duke’s career record for career homers as a Dodger still stands, 389 in his 16 years with the team. He hit 40 or more HRs in a season 5 years in a row, no Dodger has ever matched that. He also hit 4 homers in a World Series twice. His 11 World Series homers still stand as the most for a Dodger in a World Series. His #4 was retired by the team and he was elected to the Hall in 1980. He will forever be, “The Duke of Flatbush.”
Don Demeter patrolled CF when Duke moved to right, and he would become a very good player, in Philadelphia. He was traded and a kid from Arkansas would take over in 1961. Willie Davis was perhaps the fastest player to ever patrol CF for the Dodgers. He would steal 335 bases in his 14-year Dodger career. He was accused by some of never really reaching his potential as a player. There were those who thought he could have hit for a higher average by bunting more and using his speed. Or at least hitting more ground balls. He still finished with a career .279 average. Willie was not a big power guy. He hit 21 in 1963 and that was the only time he ever hit 20 or more. He had a 3-year stretch, 69-71 where he hit over .300. The only time in his career he had those numbers. And this was when BA got you paid. He was traded after the 1973 season to Montreal for Mike Marshall. Sadly, many just remember his 3 errors in one game in the 1966 World Series with Baltimore.
After Willie left, the Dodgers used Jimmy Wynn there for two years. He was great in 1974. The Toy Cannon was loved by all. His second year did not go as well as his first and he was traded to the Braves in the Dusty Baker deal. Baker played 112 games in CF for LA in 1976. But after they traded Bill Buckner to the Cubs for Rick Monday, he moved to left. Mo was the LA CF for only a year. In 78 he shared it with Bill North. In 79 it was Derrell Thomas. In 80, Rudy Law. In 1981, they traded for Kenny Landreaux. He remained the man until 1987 when they traded for John Shelby. Kirk Gibson played as the primary for 1990 with Shelby injured. And in 1991, they got Brett Butler. Butler played parts of 7 seasons and then retired after the 97 season.
Raul Mondesi played a year in center, and then they signed Devon White in 99. Hollandsworth was the CF in 2000. Then there was Marquis Grissom for a year, Dave Roberts in 2002-3. Then the misguided trade for Milton Bradley. That lasted two years, next up, Kenny Lofton for a year. Juan Pierre came on the scene in 2007, but they moved him to left in 2008 for the kid, Matt Kemp. Kemp would be the Dodger CF until 2013. Kemp was injured most of 13 and Andre Ethier took his spot. In 2015 Joc took over and stayed in CF until 2018 when Kike was the primary guy. Pollock and Bellinger shared the spot in 2019. Bellinger took over in 20 and stayed there until he left after the 22 season. Outman was the guy last year and started out as that guy this year. But his hitting dropped off of a cliff, and he has been back in AAA since he was demoted. The Pages experiment lasted a while, but Andy is better suited as a corner outfielder. Edman has been getting the majority of the starts since he was activated.
I know the playoffs have not even started yet, but the question has to be asked, who is the CF going forward? CF is an important position both defensively and offensively. CF usually have some power. Kiermaier is retiring after the season, and never really was a consideration. Outman should at least get another shot come spring training next year. Could they possibly trade for one? Or will they go with a very young outfield of Rushing, LF, Outman, CF, and Pages, RF. It is almost a certainty that Mookie is going to move back to the infield, most likely at second base next year. Or will they go the free agent route? Whatever happens, it is going to be a very interesting winter in Dodgerland. Another option would be the free agent route. As of right now, there are only two players of that type who might be available. Harrison Bader, and if he opts out, Cody Bellinger. I have to believe that Tommy Edman, who plays a pretty good CF, will be their new Swiss Army knife.
Game Summary
The Dodgers scored 2 runs in the first on a homer by Teo, his 32nd and then just kept piling on the Rockies in a bullpen game. Brasier gave back one in the bottom of the first. In the second, they got a single from Kike, a walk to Pages and a single from Taylor drove in Kike. Barnes made an out and then Ohtani singled in Pages. Ohtani and Taylor pulled off a double steal and Ohtani went to third on the overthrow. Taylor scored the 5th run. Casparius came in to pitch the second. He would end up going 4.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 of which was earned. He walked 2 and struck out 6. He would be credited with the win. Meanwhile, the offense kept rolling. Pages led off the fourth with a homer deep to left. Colorado got their second run on a walk and two singles off of Casparius in the fifth. Taylor led off the sixth with a double, Barnes singled him to third and then went to second on a wild pitch. Ohtani hit a massive blast to right for his 54th homer of the year.
Kiermaier doubled, and Lux walked, Kiermaier went to third on a wild pitch. Teo struck out and Edman hit a sac-fly scoring Kiermaier. 10-2 LA. With 1 out in the bottom of the sixth, Casparius gave up a double and two singles for a run and was replaced by Joe Kelly. Kelly got the next two hitters to end the inning. The Dodgers went 1-2-3 in the seventh. Kelly got the first two hitters in the bottom of the inning and was replaced by Henriquez. He struck out Beck to end the inning.
Peralta came in to pitch the eighth. Ohtani doubled and Kiermaier singled him home for the 11th Dodger run. Henriquez struck out Toglia to begin the bottom of the inning. Rodgers walked and went to second on a wild pitch. He then scored the Rockies 4th and final run on a single by Nolan Jones. Henriquez then retired the next two hitters. The Dodgers went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth. Hudson came in to pitch the ninth. He walked Blackmon, Tovar flied out to left. Schunk struck out and Blackmon took second on defensive indifference. Beck got on base via a throwing error by Edman, and Toglia struck out to end the game.
The Dodgers gained a full game on the Phillies who lost. LA’s magic number to be the #1 seed and have home field throughout the playoffs is 1. Arizona lost to San Diego, the Mets lost to Milwaukee, and Atlanta beat KC, who even with the loss, clinched the sixth and final spot in the AL playoffs. The Padres are in the playoffs for sure, but, Atlanta, the Mets and the D-Backs, are all in a virtual tie. Arizona has 1 more win and 1 more loss than NY and the Braves. But the Braves and Mets are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Monday due to losing 2 games to the hurricane.

Probably miss tomorrow’s game, going to see some of my friends play at the Canon City VFW. Will watch USC-Wisconsin though.
CENTERFIELD
Both Pages and Edman have made noise. Edman is probably the better fielder but I think given the chance, Pages could handle it. I think that both players should be signed and ready for next season. Since Edman subs at SS, his utility is higher than Pages and the fact he is a switch hitter, rare in these days. But, I’m not sure Edman is the best choice for SS. I’d like to see Rojas back. No more Mookie at SS.
3B
Is Max the best choice for 3B? Personally, I don’t think so. It would be nice if they went after someone who can play both ways, offense and defense. Max has power but is too inconsistent offensively for me and injury prone. This is an area of weakness for us.
2B
If they are committed to Lux, they could do worse. He’s better than any of our utility guys offensively and think he will improve with time. However, if the FO wants someone more solid, maybe we could use Lux in a trade for another 3B and move Max over to 2B if they are going to keep him.
Mookie definitely belongs in RF. Teo in LF, Pages/Edman in CF.
Next season, only BP games for all. Integrate the starters into this. No one will touch us. Guaranteed.
Pages is no centerfielder. He doesn’t read the ball off the bat that well. He is better suited for a corner outfield spot. As for Edman, like Kike and Taylor, his value lies in his versatility. Betts is going to move back to the infield, bank on it but not at SS, at second base. Lux is expendable. Pages should move to right. As for Muncy, he is under contract for one more season as is Taylor. Muncy’s BA will never be a problem for the Dodgers since they value the power he brings and his OPS, which for his career is .850 and his OPS+ is 140. With Kike most likely moving on. Rojas has a team option. The problem here is he is going to have to have surgery this winter. Rushing has been playing left and he will get a shot there in spring. Although everybody loves the guy, I don’t think they will resign Teo. I also think Outman gets another chance before they decide to cut him loose. He would be the primary CF. Just my opinion, but I think they trade for or sign a free agent SS. They also need a left-handed thumper for the bench.
Outman will get a chance. Certainly he should. He’s a “sophomore jinx” removed from a streaky, but ultimately solid, rookie season, with a .790 OPS and strong defense. He performed great back in OKC and he can play every OF position.
A lot depends on where Mookie plays. If he moves to 2B–and why not?– that would free up RF for Pages. If Mookie stays in RF, Pages would be better in LF than CF. (I’m hoping Rushing proves he could be an LF option too.)
Edman was a great acquisition. Next season, he could shuttle between CF and SS as a platoon partner for both Outman and Rojas, not unlike how Mookie shuttled between RF and 2B.
And of course all of this could change with a big acquisition, like Adames to play SS…
Centerfielder of the future:
I could see a trade for Robert jun.
A package around Pages could be on the table.
Young and controllable for 2 more years. If healthy a superstar player.
Would love to have him and Soto for our outfield in 2025.
Plus Sasaki and the Dodgers could have another killer offseason.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Robert Jr. He’s the guy I thought might come over at the deadline. Now I think he stays in Chicago unless he comes out and says “Enough! Trade me”. He’s signed for next season with team options for the next two years after that. There’s also injuries to consider, This year hip flexor and hamstring. Interestingly he and Outman are the same age.
And Soto. Yeah, Ohtani, Betts, Soto. Every Dodger fan would love to see that. Possible yes, but not likely.
Free agent pitching for ‘25. Burnes and Fried lead my list. Fried is a SoCal guy. He makes sense for the Dodgers. And Flaherty? Yeah. Sign him too.
I agree Badger, they almost have to sign at least one significant front-line arm. Even with Ohtani joining the rotation. They won’t know if Sasaki is going to be posted until at least late November. I know he would be a target. But they need a lefty, Fried would be my choice. Burnes would cost more even though he is a year younger. Five-year deal for Fried makes sense.
Shohei’s surge toward the playoffs has resulted in some ridiculous stats.
Not only is he in contention for the Triple Crown–leading in HRs and RBIs, trailing only Arraez in BA–but consider these other superlatives:
OPS– 1.041, first in NL
Slugging– .651, first
Runs– 133, first
OBP– .390, first
Hits– 194, second to Arraez’s 199
SB– 57, second to De La Cruz’s 65
SB efficiency– 57 steals, only 4 caught stealing. (De La Cruz has been caught 16 times.)
Ohtani has already kicked his game up several notches this month.
Now we’re all excited to see what he does in the playoffs.
Will the Dodgers call up Bobby Miller to take some of the bulk innings today or tomorrow ?Casparius after working 4.1 innings yesterday probably will not be available for the rest of the weekend.
If the option him and call up Miller would he then be able to be on the postseason roster next week ?
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Will the Dodgers call up Bobby Miller to take some of the bulk innings today or tomorrow”
I thought they would, but I’m not seeing anything on it this morning. I’m curious about Gonsolin too. Why not give them both a look today or tomorrow?
Miller pitched very well his last outing in OKC. Maybe he found IT .
Dodgers make their transactions public close to game time lately. Maybe they will give him a call.. IMHO would make all the sense in the world if only to give the other guys in the pen much deserved rest.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doubtful, but he will be on the Taxi squad for the playoffs. Yamamoto is starting tonight. They are not going to scramble the roster with just two games left. Knack is still there and can be the bulk guy tomorrow. That lines Yamamoto or Flaherty in line to start game one in LA next Saturday. Milwaukee may have lost Friedl for the playoffs. Hurt his hip yesterday. Braves got Lopez back. Schomaker officially out as manager in Miami. Reds considering him and David Ross for their opening.
I’ve seen enough of Miller.
Agreed and AAA is not the majors. He needs to get his head out of his rectum. He is a head case when he has something bad happen in a game.
If we are just talking center field then Outman and Edmand are the two in-house guys that best fit there.
Pages has made a strong claim for a corner outfield spot and Rushing is pushing for one as well. Is there room for both Teo and Mookie in the outfield? Payroll might determine who plays in the outfield.
If the Dodgers prefer to keep Lux then might Betts play third? I like Edmand at short with hopes that Alex Freeland can be the long term shortstop starting in 2026 or sooner.
If Mookie is moved back to the infield, and I would bet he is, he will be at second, not third. He is most comfortable there. Max will be back at third for at least next year. Freeland won’t be an option at SS next year unless he puts an awesome spring training together. I still think they go after a free agent SS, or they try and trade for Bichette who just had surgery.
Pages has had a nice offensive season and has some proven value in right, as I hope Mookie moves to second and Lux goes elsewhere. If Mookie stays in right, Pages goes to left. Rushing may prove to be a valuable outfielder but for now he is a prospect olny with no track record as a big leaguer. No way he’s pencilled in with no MLB time vs Pages.
Edman. Outman traded or on the bench.
Unless they can’t land a SS and roll with Edman there until Freeland is ready.
Rojas comes back as a bench piece replacing Keekay.
Pages will be a starting OF.
Don’t see Edman as an everyday anything. He is too versatile. Still think Pages in right, Outman in CF, and Rushing in left, if he shows he can handle it in spring. If they decide to trade for an outfielder instead of signing Teo again, then Rushing might be a backup C and OF.
Rushing as the backup c and sporadic LF is the way to go.
Sign Soto and Sasaki and call it a day.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He can also give Freddie a breather at first. He played there several times.
Report on MLBTR quoted Roberts as saying it is doubtful that Tony Gonsolin will take part in the playoffs. Also looks like Blake Snell will opt out of his deal with the Giants.
Dodgers optioned Ben Casparius to the ACL Dodgers and called up Justin Wrobleski to take his place on the roster.
Thought they would go with Miller but he probably could not have been recalled because the 15 days were not up yet.
Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would love to see Will Smith get a few reps at 3rd or 2nd. He will be the regular catcher but he needs more days away from the rigors of catching without losing his bat in the lineup. He’s going to need more days away from catching as his contract runs. He is one of the best defensive catcher’s in the game but his offense suffers, this isn’t going to change.
Offer Teo a two year contract for 50 million with a mutual option on a third year for 30.
Dont need to waste a bunch of money on Roberts in centerfield. The Dodgers need to build from within and get a couple of starters outside the organization. The lefty from Atlanta and Burns would be great.
just my thoughts for what it’s worth.
Offer Teo a two year contract for 50 million with a mutual option on a third year for 30.
No.
I like Teo, but he is on the wrong side of 30 already. And 30 for his last year? Insane (sorry, not trying to be mean).
Won’t happen, someone is going to give him 4 years around 100 mil. Won’t be LA.
Third year is a mutual option. Meaning both the Dodgers and Two would have to agree. I believe he’s on the wrong side of 30 also but if he produces in the first two years at 25 it’s a reward. He will get more than 25 elsewhere but if he wants a shot at a ring every year perhaps he takes a discount. I highly doubt he would take the contract but that would be one to offer. I wasn’t offended a bit by your comment. I just didn’t think you thought about the mutual option.
Teo will be 32 before the end of this year. His next deal will likely take him up to retirement age. I believe he will get a four-year deal without any options from somebody, and it won’t be the Dodgers. Boston wanted him bad last winter. He will get a deal for around 100 million.
I would pass.
John, giving reps to Will at 3rd has been mentioned for a few years and I think it’s a good idea. But Muncy is the third baseman next year. After that, Will could be there. He should get his feet wet starting in the spring and see how he does. Hands won’t be a problem as catchers can catch short hops and throw. Let’s see his footwork. But Muncy is no Gene Kelly over there and he’s adequate through hard work. A lot depends on Barnes. With Barnes and Muncy gone for 2026, I see Will moving to third some with a new backup catcher, either Rushing or Fedducia catching or in left.
But that’s not next year.
Can’t see him playing second at all with Mookie moving there. USC up on Wisconsin 38-21 in the fourth quarter.
Starting lineup for tonight: Ohtani DH, Betts RF, Lux 2B, Hernandez LF, Muncy 3B, Smith C, Edman SS, Kike 1B, Kiermaier CF, Yamamoto P.
I believe the Dodgers have clinched home field all the way to November.
I would like to have seen Miller and Gonsolin tonight or tomorrow. It must have already been determined their years are over.
SC made a lot of dumb mistakes the first half. They cleaned it up nicely in the second half. UCLA Oregon on at 8? I’ll catch the first half then likely fade out.
Don’t seem like Phillies even wanted number one seed. Here comes the them Damm freaking Padres once again hope we’re ready. Will be a battle.
Phillies lost again to the Nat’s. LA clinches home field throughout the playoffs and World Series. Nice 3-run shot by Kike. Ohtani at 409 total bases, 7 away from Herman’s record.
I respectfully disagree with Bear and Mookie moving to second. Lux has hit just under .300 since the All Star break. After sitting out a year it takes athletes time to get back to game speed. I believe Mookie stays in right and Lux plays second. As far as position players the Dodgers are in pretty good shape. After what we seen in the pitching department the saying you can’t have too much pitching applies. What the Dodgers front office has been able to do year after year is find help in the bullpen from some unlikely source. Now I say all this remembering that I was on the Vargas train all along. It didn’t plan out. That is why I’m at home on a computer. Professionals are there because they are very good at what they do.
Phil I completely agree with you on Will Smith. My point is maybe starting him there once a week or once every two weeks and play the backup catcher a couple times a week to hopefully keep Smith from being worn down come September. It is no criticism of Smith, he’s one of the top catchers in the game. I believe he would be more productive at the plate later in the season with a little more time away from catching in June, July and August.
That’s cool John, but they are going to make their 300-million-dollar superstar happy and keep him happy. He is more comfortable in the infield, and less likely to get injured. He prefers the infield and likes being closer to the action. Lux is trade fodder this offseason. If I am wrong about that, I will gladly admit it, but it makes too much sense not to happen.
A Gold Glove right fielder moving to 2B? Keeping Lux and not playing him at 2B? It’s not that Mookie cannot play 2B, it’s why fix it if it’s not broken? If they trade Lux, why not have Muncy move to 2B and trade or sign someone for 3B? This further strengthens the team. Pages is not going to replace Mookie in RF full time. Mookie is still young enough to play RF and Smith is still young enough to play C, full time(not everday, though). We need someone to replace Barnes. Feduccia looked good to me when he was called up.
Teo not going to be signed by L.A.? He loves it here and he’s been on a tear. Sign that boy because he lights up a clubhouse as well as the stat sheet!
Betts prefers playing the infield. If Betts moves back to second, Lux will not be a Dodger. Muncy plays third well enough. Is he a gold glover? No, but he is more than adequate and improved from when he first moved over there. Muncy’s best position is actually first base. He has played twice as many games at third as he has at second. If Pages is going to get more playing time, if will be in RF, he is for sure no CF. Barnes has a team option that is really reasonable, and they love the guy. I would bet they pick up his option and it will be his last year. I base my opinion on all the things I have read about Mookie and his desires going forward. He would never have moved back to right if he would have felt he could play SS at a high level, plus they had traded for Edman.
Freeman going to get pipped by kike.
Not likely.
Funny realten.
Lux is Busch re-deux. Get two more top prospects for him. Mookie’s playing second base.
New Rule: an unearned run based on an obvious error by an umpire.
I like the new rule.
It’s hard to feel that way about Lux since he’s been back on track with his bat. This is a decent 2B who has bat to ball skills, something that has been lacking on our team. He’s not a power hitter. He’s only 26yo.
Great. That means he will bring back even better prospects than Busch did.
Personally I think Mookie in right field and Lux at second would be fine next year. I just believe Mookie wants second base and if he does, Lux gotta go.
You might be right, but I still think Betts wants to play the infield for the rest of his career. He is more comfortable there and likes being closer to the action. I stand by my opinion; Lux is the odd man out. Betts is actually a better second baseman than Lux. He has more range and a better arm.
Keep in mind Lux is a platoon player without power. It would be best to let Betts play 2B and work on the outfield including Pages and Outman and possibly Teo and Soto. I have a lot more faith in Pages and Outman than I do of Lux.
Bager is probably right when he said this:
“Lux is Busch re-deux’
I would add and say more like Vargas re-deux. Busch at least has power.
Oh my god, this is Vargas since going to the Sox .109/.216/.180/.396
For 2024 .156/.250/.266/.516
Career .177/.274/.317/.591
Does Vargas even belong in MLB? I wonder about Mark.
Ozuna 0-1 at .307, Ohtani 1-2 at .310. Arraez is not playing he is at .314.
What a chicken shit move by Arraez and the Puds.
Agree.
Teo gets his career high 33rd homer and drove in his 99th run of the year. Kiermaier is 3 for his last 4. Pages PH for Kiermaier.
Hey bear why is number 18 carved into cf grass? Or anybody that can tell me.
It is 19. Blackmon is retiring after the season. It is to honor him.
Ok thanks. My wife said 18 I couldn’t even c it. That makes sense.
Where the heck does this Will Smith nonsense come from.
Timmons used to just spout that silliness for no reason, and now it’s happening here.
Will Smith to third nonsense is what I meant.
I’ll chime in on the subject.
Knowing Doc, I don’t think Outman will get a chance next year, even though he should. Pages is playing some CF and when he was sent down, he played CF. Maybe they’ll work with him in the off-season to become the CF.
Speaking of Pages, Doc said something recently about Pages making the playoff roster. I’ll be glad if it happens. But Doc says a lot of bullshit that doesn’t come true.
I think Betts moves to 2B next year and Lux gets traded or sent down to the minors if he has options.
I think Friedman will make an offer to both Soto and Teo because the rest of the free agent outfielder list is a bunch of crappy hitting outfielders. If Freeman can’t get both of those guys then look for BOTH Outman and Pages to be full-time starting outfielders next year. Doc will be forced to start Outman.
The front office and I think also Doc loves versatility, so who knows where anyone’s going to play next year besides Smith C, Freeman 1B, Ohtani DH. I think that’s the reason why Rushing played LF this year, because they want him to be versatile at C and LF.
If Sasaki gets posted, Friedman will be all over that.
Edman is in a slump although two walks today. Edman’s value is a utility guy. Right now he’s kind of forced to play every day.
Eric, whether Outman gets a shot in CF next year is not entirely up to Roberts, same as the postseason roster is not just his choices. The entire staff, including the coaches and the front office guys like Gomes and Freidman, will make the decisions. They all will have input, but the final roster is submitted by the front office, not Doc. Pages is not going to be an everyday CF. He doesn’t run good routes, and his arm is better suited for RF. Lux won’t be sent down. He will most likely be traded because there really will not be a spot for him on this team if Mookie moves back to second. The only way he remains a Dodger is if Mookie returns to RF. Rushing also can play first. They will have a taxi squad in case of injury during the playoffs. I would guess since they have to carry 13 pitchers, and 13 position players, that they will take 4 starters and 9 bullpen pitchers. Yamamoto, Flaherty, Buehler and Knack. Pick em as far as the pen goes. There is one open spot on the roster after you pick the first 12 position players. Kiermaier or Pages. I think Pages gets picked. Kike and Taylor will both be on the postseason roster. Count on it.
You used to tell me Pages had no chance at making the playoff roster and Kiermaier will make it because the Dodgers want veterans in the postseason and Kiermaier is a defense wizard and you wanted that too.
So does the group of decision-makers you talk about sit down and someone asks everyone if they want this guy raise their hand and the player with the most hands raised wins? I think it’s Friedman and Doc that make the final decisions.
Recently in the postseason, they’ve been going with six starting pitchers, I bet they have five or six. Not all of them will start obviously. Some will be bullpen guys.
The way he was playing at the time I said that he probably would not have made it. But remember, he got sent to AAA for a while, made some adjustments and has pretty much been a different hitter since he returned, plus, he has been playing well lately. In the first round, they will need just four starters. No way they take five or six starters into the NLDS. Maybe if they make it to the NLCS they will. You keep saying I want a certain player, totally wrong. They traded for Kiermaier because of his defense. If they decide they value his defense in a short series like the LDS, then that is who will be on the roster. But if they think Pages bat is what they want, he will be on the roster. A lot depends on the health of Rojas. If he can play through, Edman will be in CF most of the time. As far as the decision makers raising hands, that would be childish. Doc has no say in who is on the final roster he just makes his suggestions. None. The front office submits that and makes the final decision. That is Friedman’s job. Doc, the coaches, scouts, all make contributions as to who certain players match up better against.
Brett Butler was a joy to watch.
Yes he was.
