El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres) 9 vs OKC Dodgers 1 

On the Mound 

Yefry Ramirez tried to follow up his last game Complete Game Shutout, and got through 3 scoreless innings.  In the 4th, Ramirez allowed 2 singles and 2 doubles to score 3.

In the 6th, Luis Campusano walked, and Nomar Mazara homered (5).  Ramirez got the next batter, but Daniel Zamora was summoned to relieve him.  Zamora got out of the inning unscored on.

In the 7th, Zamora struck out the first two batters, but then issued a walk and single, and Reyes Moronta was called in.  Moronta issued 4 consecutive BBs and a wild pitch, and Dakota Chalmers was asked to relieve.  Chalmers walked another, but struck out the next two batters and the inning was mercilessly over.  For the inning, 4 runs on 1 hit, 6 walks, and a WP. 

Garrett Cleavinger got the final out in the 8th and retired the side in the 9th while issuing 2 walks himself.

A strange game for the OKC pitchers.  9 runs on 8 hits, 10 walks, and 13 Ks.

 

At the Plate

The Dodgers lone run was unearned and started with a Jason Martin BB. Two ground out fielder’s choice and Jason Martin is on 3rd.  He scored on a fielding error. 

Eddy Alvarez had three hits and a HBP.  Zach McKinstry had 2 hits, and Michael Busch had his first AAA double.

 

Player of the Game

It has to be Eddy Alvarez who reached base all four at bats.  For the month of May, with 40 ABs, Eddy is batting .475/.604/.775/1.379 with 4 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 HRs.  Now that is sizzling.

Tulsa Drillers 9 vs Amarillo Sod Poodles (Arizona) 2 

On the Mound 

The pitching performance of the day has to belong to be Gavin Stone (pictured).  In his first AA game since his promotion, Gavin pitched 5.0 scoreless innings.  He allowed 5 hits, but no walks.  He also struck out 8.

In the 6th, Nick Robertson entered and gave up a triple and two singles for a run before an out was recorded.  With the help of a GIDP, the inning was over.

Tanner Dodson followed in the 7th, and had a good outing.  He was unscored on in 1.2 IP.  He only allowed 1 hit and had 2 Ks.

In the 9th, with Austin Drury on the hill, a 2-base throwing error put a runner on 2nd.  He was balked to 3rd, and scored on a ground out.

 

At the Plate 

The game started positively for the Drillers with a lead off double in the first by James Outman.  That was followed by two singles from Jacob Amaya and Ryan Ward to score OutmanAmaya scored on a WP.

Devin Mann hit his 3rd HR of the campaign in the 2nd.

The Drillers scored again in the 3rdAmaya and Ward led off with singles.  Andy Pages was HBP, and the bases were full.  Amaya scored, Ward to 3rd and Pages to 2nd on a ground out.  Justin Yurchak singled to score Ward.

The Drillers scored in their 4th consecutive inning.  James Outman led off with this 2nd double and moved to 3rd on a fielding error.  Jacob Amaya hit a sac fly to score Outman, for the Drillers 6th run.

The Drillers scored 3 unearned runs in the 7th.  With 2 out, Ryan Ward got his 3rd single.  Andy Pages walked and Carson Taylor reached base on a fielding error to load the bases.  Kody Hoese reached on another fielding error and Ward scored.    With the bases still loaded Justin Yurchak hit a 2 run single to finish the Drillers scoring on the night.

Recently promoted Gavin Stone who pitched 5 scoreless innings in his AA debut.

Lansing Lugnuts (A’s) 6 vs Great Lakes Loons 7

On the Mound

This was not one of Cole Percival’s good outings.  He pitched 3 innings and surrendered 4 runs.  In the 1st, a single and a Tyler Soderstrom HR (7) gave the Lugnuts a 2-0 lead.  In the 3rd, a walk single and a 2 run scoring double from Lawrence Butler, put Lansing up 4-3.

With GL on top 7-4, Julian Smith entered the 8th, but he allowed a single, issued a walk, and then a run-scoring single before Jose Hernandez was summoned to close out the game.  Hernandez gave up a double and one of the two inherited runners scored, but now the tying and go ahead runs were in scoring position.  Hernandez struck out the final two batters in the 8th and struck out the side in the 9th for his 7th save.

Combined, the Loons pitchers struck out 18 Lugnuts batters.

 

At the Plate

In the first, Jonny DeLuca walked and came home on a Jorbit Vivas HR (2) and tied the score.  In the third, the Loons loaded the bases on walks, and a sacrifice fly put the Loons in the lead.

In the 7th, DeLuca walked, and moved to 3rd on Eddys Leonard’s double.  Edward Baram walked to load the bases.  Jose Ramos singled to score 2, and on the throw to the plate the Loons had runners on 2nd and 3rdLeonel Valera had a 2-run single to finish the scoring for the Loons.

Jorbit Vivas (including a HR), Jose Ramos (including a double), and Leonel Valera had 2 hits each.

 

Player of the Game

With 2 hits, a walk, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored, Jorbit Vivas is the Player of the Game.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3 vs Fresno Grizzlies (Colorado) 12

On the Mound

Jerming Rosario started. He surrendered a 2nd inning HR to Juan Brito.  But an error opened up the flood gates in the 4th.  A runner reached on a fielding error that was followed by two outs.  But them a double, passed ball, a BB, single, and HR scored 5 unearned runs.  Just like with Michael Grove in his LAD debut, Jerming needs to learn how to pitch with adversity not of his doing. 

Martin Santana relieved Rosario and pitched a scoreless 5th.  In the 6th, the Grizzlies scored another unearned run without the benefit of a hit.

With Adolfo Ramirez pitching in the 7th, 2 more fielding errors led to 2 more unearned runs.  That is 8 unearned runs.

Carlos De Los Santos allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in the 9th.

 

At the Plate

The Quakes scored twice in the 3rd with walks to both Damon Keith and Yeiner FernandezDiego Cartaya doubled home Keith with Fernandez moving to 3rd.  He would score on a fielder’s choice.

In the 7th, Jake Vogel and Damon Keith both walked.  Yeiner Fernandez singled to score Vogel for the final Quakes run.

The Quakes got 4 hits: 2 by Yeiner Fernandez.

 

Player of the Game

There was not really a standout in this one.  But with 2 hits and a walk, the nod has to go to Yeiner Fernandez.
