2022 Opening Day Roster Set for Dodgers

The much-anticipated announcement of the LAD 28-man roster has been set. 😎 It really was not much of a secret.  As soon as it was announced that the team would be taking 16 pitchers to Colorado, and that AJ Pollock was traded, the position players were known.  There would be no surprise AAAA player making the cut.  Nor was Zach McKinstry.  Below is the announced roster.

Starting pitchers (5)

Walker Buehler (R), Clayton Kershaw (L), Julio Urías (L), Andrew Heaney (L), Tony Gonsolin (R)

Right-handed relief pitchers (6)

Craig Kimbrel, Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson, Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips, Mitch White

Left-handed relief pitchers (5)

Tyler Anderson, Alex Vesia, David Price, Justin Bruihl, Garrett Cleavinger

Catchers (2)

Will Smith, Austin Barnes

Infielders (7)

Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Trea Turner, Justin Turner, Hanser Alberto, Edwin Rios, Gavin Lux

Outfielders (3)

Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor

Injured list (6)

Dustin May (60-day), Jimmy Nelson (60-day), Dustin May (60-day)
Tommy Kahnle, Caleb Ferguson, Victor Gonzalez

As it turns out, I missed on one pitcher.  Mitch White was in fact added to the 28-man roster instead of Victor Gonzalez.  V-Gon has a left elbow inflammation and has been placed on the IL.  In addition, Phil Bickford is not going to start the season on the IL, but instead was optioned to OKC where he will lengthen out.

There is still no word on Trevor Bauer.  Any speculation is just that…speculation.  He is not going to be able to be reinstated before April 17, but after that, we fans, and the media, have no clue.  I have read that he will be reinstated after April 17, be given another semi-lengthy administrative leave, be suspended 80 games, and be suspended for the full season. All sheer guesses.

While it is reported that Bauer is working out, it is inconceivable that he would be able to join the rotation before May.  We wait and see.  He is not on the roster, so there is no reason to contemplate his return.

I am a little concerned with the lack of MLB Spring Innings for the pitchers.

Dodger management has been extremely cautious with the innings for the pitchers this Spring.  How will that impact the start of the season?  We are about to find out.
