Yes, nerve wrecking indeed. #
Our starting rotation is wobbly at the moment to say the least. May with another clunker of a start.
Dodgers will need Snell, Glasnow and Othani back for the stretch run.
If they do they will be very tough to beat in the postseason with those three plus Yamamoto in the rotation.
Bullpen immediately looks a lot better with Kopech and Yates back.

hate the bullpen game today. IMHO it would be smarter to bring up Miller and let him start. Bullpen is already taxed . In the worst outcome Miller does not last long and the bullpen has to pick it up but if he does okay or better it would be a blessing for the pen.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d prefer Miller to a bullpen game too.
In addition to the reasons you mention, a strong performance could really boost his confidence. Miller was very good as a rookie and there’s no good reason he can’t bounce back.

I agree…..Miller, with one stipulation….he has to pitch 7 innings no matter what….

San Diego gave up 2 unearned. The Dodgers thank you.

Miller’s last start was Wednesday against Reno. Took 98 pitches to go 5. 3 earned, 4 BB’s and 1 K. Gave up 1 HR. He could pitch today but the Dodgers must feel they have a better shot at beating Cease with a bullpen game.

This is who they are now. Minor League starters, 4+ ERA 4-5 inning veteran starters and bullpen games. Hopefully they hold on until the first string starters get back.

Was just checking Yamamoto’s stats. He’s already 17 innings short of his total innings pitched last year. He has thrown as many as 193 innings in Japan, last done when he was 23. He’s started 13 games this year. All the projections sites, for whatever their worth, have him starting no more than 17. Am I the only one that sees an R&R in his future?

Yeah, he’ll be on the IL soon. Arm fatigue, elbow discomfort, shoulder soreness.

Definitely and said so last week. Be in big trouble if he goes down.

He might not want to, but I think AF might have to trade for a top end Starter as not sure any of Glassnow, Snell or Sasaki will be back and i think it’s fair to say that if we’re hoping CK, May or Gonsolin are going to improve enough for the Post Season we will be disappointed.

Our lineup is a lot better with Will in it.

I agree. Valdez is a rental, which AF prefers, but he will still be available because every contender (except maybe SFG) will be after him, including NYY, NYM, Chicago Cubs, SD…His 2025 salary probably also puts Cleveland, Detroit, and Minnesota as possible teams.

Valdez is a workhorse. He had 201.1 IP in 2022, 198.0 IP in 2023,176.1, in 2024, and is on pace to exceed 200 IP in 2025. From what I can see, he has been on the IL twice. 2021 for a fractured ring finger (about two months). And not quite 3 weeks last April with elbow inflammation.

Valdez is on a 1 year $18MM contract.

I still cannot see him being available, but there sure is a lot of smoke out there on the rumors.

Andy Pages with the huge game winning hit. He is the reason we have runways. Tho I would prefer the length of an aircraft carrier, smarter minds than me make those decisions. Kudos to Andy. Tho as an irrational fan, I reserve the right, if Pages goes 0 for a series or two, to be the first one up and screaming for AF to send him down!
Speaking of runways, a month ago Muncy had an OPS of .578 and Teo’s was .933. Today it’s Muncy at .779 and Teo at .773. Baseball is a hard game!

Was it not that the rbi that put your team ahead for good was ruled the winning RBI ?

Sauer vs Cease?

With that matchup one might think the Padres would be favored. They are not. Dodgers by 1.5, O/U opening around 9. The Dodger bullpen games are typically low scoring. Leading up to this series the Padres have had trouble scoring. So, for this game I’m gonna say ….. gotta score 8.

Cease has an ERA of 4.72 and is a 4-5 inning starter. He has a 1-5 record. Dodgers should be able to get to him.

San Diego. I used to take dates down to the zoo there.

Reminds me of a joke:

A guy loads his family into the family car and heads to the zoo.

The zoo had one animal in it. A dog.

It was Shih Tzu.

San Diego is glorious, weather wise.
And the Salk Institute is one of my favorite modern buildings.

Other than that?

I used to have fun at Comicon.

A date at a phone animal zoo? Sounds more like you took her to a dog rescue center and won her over by adopting a lonely mutt. That’s what Friedman usually does to find relief pitchers.

Seems like last night’s game was played backwards from a traditional game back in the day. I remember matchups with starting pitchers like Koufax or Drysdale vs Marichal or Gibson where the only hope was to get the starter out of the game and get to the bullpen, somehow.

Last night was the exact opposite. Both May and Pivetta had their opponents running to the bat racks and the hope was to get as much out of each, without major damage, until you could get to the bullpen.

It’s a new day.

This has been discussed and posted almost to a nauseating degree, but fans and MLB itself would LOVE to see starting pitching become more heroic and center-stage than it is right now.

Just too many factors working against it.

Ben Clemens on Andy Pages. From the last paragraph:

Is that a star-level player? I mean, it definitely can be….”

If May doesn’t develop a change up that breaks similar to his 2 seamer, he won’t be an October pitcher

Glasnow, YY, Snell.

Three of the four October slots are already spoken for.

Even if May develops, it’s unclear if he’ll be a starter for the playoffs, no?

Is there a tentative probable starter schedule? I’m thinking of going to Denver for a game and I will be going to Milwaukee for a game. I’m hoping to see Kershaw pitch in both games.

I’m baffled and ticked at this. We’ve all had enough of Conforto. Maybe he makes everyone eat crow with a big game tonight, or maybe unicorns and fairies actually exist.
