Round Rock Express (Texas) 6 – OKC Comets 3
The Oklahoma City Comets loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but were unable to complete a comeback in a 6-3 loss to the Round Rock Express. Entering the ninth inning trailing by three runs, the Comets (10-5) loaded the bases without a hit via two walks and a Hyeseong Kim HBP with two outs. Express pitcher Codi Heuer then struck out Alex Freeland to end the game.
Round Rock had built a 6-0 lead through six innings, including a two-run home run by Trevor Hauver in the first inning, two-run single by Tucker Barnhart in the fifth inning and a RBI groundout and sacrifice fly by the Express in the sixth inning. All three Comets runs scored in the seventh inning when Chris Okey lined a three-run home run (1) out to left field.

Justin Wrobleski started and completed 4.0 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 1 hit, but 6 BB. He struck out four. The lone hit Wrobo gave up was a 2-run HR.
Nick Frasso followed Wrobleski. In 3.0 IP, Frasso gave up 4 runs on 6 hits, 1 BB, 1 K.
Joe Jacques pitched a scoreless 8th.
Despite losses in two of the final three games of the road series in Round Rock, the Comets won the series, 4-2…Oklahoma City has now won all three of its first three series to start the season.
Chris Okey has now hit safely in five straight games, going 6-for-17 with three extra-base hits and eight RBI.
With Chris Okey’s home run, the Comets have now homered in six straight games, racking up 18 homers during their road trip in Round Rock.
Alex Freeland went 1-for-4 with a walk and has hit safely in eight of his last nine games, batting .439 (18-for-41) with six doubles, a home run, 15 RBI and eight runs scored since April 4.
Hyeseong Kim singled and has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .308 (16-for-52) with nine extra-base hits, nine RBI and 15 runs scored.
FWIW, Dalton Rushing has not played since April 9, the last 4 games.
Arkansas Travelers (Seattle) 4 – Tulsa Drillers 0
Jerming Rosario started for Tulsa. After pitching a clean 3.0 innings, he gave up a 3-run HR in the 4th. That was all that Arkansas needed. Rosario completed 4.0 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 1 BB, with 5 K. Antonio Knowles pitched a scoreless 2.0 innings in relief and Ronan Kopp pitched 1.0 scoreless inning.
Tulsa got their 4th run off Tanner Kiest. He struck out 3 in his 1.0 IP, but surrendered 4 hits to score the run.
The Drillers got two hits, a single by John Rhodes, and a double (1) by Chris Newell.
Tulsa dropped to 1-8 after this game.
Lansing Lugnuts (A’s) 12 – Great Lakes Loons 11
The Great Lakes Loons delivered 11 runs off 14 hits but it was not enough to best the Lansing Lugnuts.
Once again the bullpen fell apart. The Loons had a 6 run lead going into the bottom of the 9th. Reynaldo Yean entered in the 9th. Lansing got a leadoff double, two walks with one out, and a groundout that pushed across a run. Lugnuts’ eight-hitter Casey Yamauchi was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jesus Luna relieved Yean followed by another walk that pushed across another run. It set up Rodney Green Jr. who with the bases loaded rocked an 0-2 pitch over the right field fence to tie the game.
Lansing left a combined three men on in the 10th and 11th. A Sahid Valenzuela diving defensive play at shortstop stranded three Great Lakes runners in the top of the 11th.
Kendall George homered twice. The Dodgers No. 15 prospect went yard in the third inning and then gave Great Lakes an 11-9 lead in the 12th with a 427-foot blast to centerfield. George had one home run in 86 games last season in Low-A.

Once again the bullpen could not hold a lead. Christian Ruebeck was pitching the bottom of the 12th. Down two in the 12th, Cole Conn led off the inning with an RBI double scoring the placed runner. A walk and wild pitch gave Jared Dickey a chance to win it, which he did with a two-run single to shallow right field.
Zyhir Hope was the hitting star. He drove in three runs with four hits. A homer shy of the cycle, the Dodgers No. 6 prospect had a two-run double in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Hope posted 10 RBI this week and now leads the Midwest League with 13.
It was a huge day for top #Dodgers OF prospect Zyhir Hope
He tallied four hits for Great Lakes, including a triple and two doubles. Hope is batting .400 with a 1.202 OPS so far this season pic.twitter.com/eP8o1z5CvZ

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 10 – Stockton Ports (A’s) 1
The Quakes got both good hitting with excellent pitching to pick up the LAD affiliates lone victory on Sunday. The Quakes got 12 hits including 4 HRs.
Kellon Lindsey led off the game with a BB and stole 2nd. Joendry Vargas singled home Lindsey, and the Quakes got on the board early.
RC scored 4 in the 2nd. Elijah Hainline singled and moved to 2nd when Jose Meza was HBP. After a WP, Victor Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to plate Hainline. Raynerd Ortega hit a 2-run (1), and that was followed by Kellon Lindsey’s first professional HR (1).

In the 3rd, Vargas was HBP and stole 2nd. He scored on a Samuel Munoz single to give RC a 6-0 lead.
Rancho starter 20 year old RHP Christian Zazueta was sharp across 4.1 innings, striking out seven in the no-decision. Zazueta came over from NYY last year in the Caleb Ferguson trade.
20 year old RHP Marco Corcho snagged the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Quakes scored three in the 8th. The first run was scored on Ortega’s 2nd HR (2) of the game. After a Lindsey BB, Eduardo Quintero hit a 2-run long ball (2).
21 year old RHP Michael Vilchez entered in the 7th and picked up the three-inning save, his first, with three scoreless frames to finish it off. He allowed 1 hit, and struck out 6.

I appreciate the minor league reports all the more when the big club seems to be in a funk.
Instead of wins and losses, we check on individual performances in the minors.
Two HRs by Kendall George in a single game? That’s a surprise. Just a fluke? When the Dodgers used their first pick for him, he was compared to Juan Pierre because of his speed and contact skills. But I still hoped there might be some Mookie-esque power in his small frame. (But Pierre had a mighty fine career–2,217 hits and 614 stolen bases.)
At any rate, the emergence of Zyhir Hope has pushed George down on the OF prospect depth chart. Nice to see Hope have another strong game.
Meanwhile, there is a report that the Dodgers indeed discussed a trade for Luis Robert Jr, offering Outman and “a prospect”– who must have been a very good one. (De Paula, perhaps?)
Robert is off to such a poor start that the price could be coming down.
The Dodgers should get out of their funk…. but if this team is somehow struggling, the front office could make some interesting deals.
What the Dodgers really need is some contact hitters. There is way too much swing and miss on this team. Kyle Tucker as a free agent would make perfect sense because when the big power boys go into a funk, this team does not score. I said it before and I will say it again, they are way too reliant on homers. Contact hitting may be old school, but it gets runners on base.
Hope is going to be a big leaguer.
Is it me or the dodgers seem to be old either they hit Homer’s and win games or they lose when they face a bettee hitting team. These Cubs pitcher baffled them the whole series what happens when they face a good pitcher the dodgers. Muncy ycan’t hit Taylor cant hit Rojas is robbed eveey time hehits it goes right to someone and Pages looks like a AAA player in the majors. I know uts early but Freeman looks old and Betts looks off after being sick right now Edman iand Teoscar are both consistant hitters you can count on them getting on base or driving in runs. Right now the Padres look way bettee and there missing two guys on DL.
Luis Roberts Jr. off to a slow start? He hit .224 last year. This slow start has lasted for some time.
I’m noticing alot of poor trends and bad habits that have formed so far this season that are concerning.
One of the trends that I’ve noticed is that they are constantly playing from behind early. The starting staff is allowing runs in the first or second innings and the lineup is not able to hit the opposing starters at all. The offense does nothing for the first 5 or 6 innings of the game, until the opposing bullpen comes in.
The pitching staff is walking way too many batters. They are constantly going 3-2 on almost every hitter. I understand that most teams nowaways are obsessed with chase rates, strikeouts and don’t want anything put into play. What ever happened to inducing weak contact?
The outfield defense is pretty bad. I think the best thing to do at this point is Move Mookie back to right field, an outfield of Teo in left, edman in center and Mookie in right is much better that what they’ve been using now. Maybe they can just move Conforto to the bench? I don’t understand why Mookie has to play short. Call up Kim to play short, and anyone else can play second.
The bench has been pretty bad too. As mentioned by others here. All of those games during that 8-0 stretch to start the season saw them fall behind in every game. They were losing or trailing in every game and it took miraculous comebacks to win those.
Also the base-running has been very poor as well. I like some of the agressiveness on the bases, but don’t be stealing when down by a run with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth. Those types of foolish errors will not help.
I’m sorry to say but wrobleski, Miller, Knack, Sheehan, are not great. They are fine as spot starters, or maybe as back end innngs eaters, but don’t count on those guys for much of anything. May and Gonsolin are good pitchers, those are the guys that need to stick in the rotation. Haven’t seen enough of Saski yet, but doesnt look like he’s transitioning well. A team that has the highest payroll in baseball, just won the world series and more resources and influence than any other team in the sport should be able to find a better replacement reliever than Luis Garcia.
Hoping these trends get better.
I can’t take watching Pages play CF……please please send him away.
CT3 is useless….again
Muncy is too unreliable but you can always count on him jacking one out every so often. Just strikes out so much and BA is always low…not my kind of everyday player.
Outman….please send him to Chicago Cubs to buddy up with Busch.
i never wanted Mookie at SS….troubled that team caved into his crying.
Yes, 3b and CF need upgrades. Move Edman to SS and Mookie to 2B.
As both a Dodgers and Oregon State Beavers fan, I was excited to see LA take Elijah Hainline in the 7th round last year. He got off to a really rocky start and Rancho last year but seems to have really turned things around. What have you seen in him and what do you think of his future in the organization. I also really like Joendry Vargas down in Rancho as well. Seems he has all the tools to become a MLBer. Thanks!
The natives are restless.
Line ups are out, Kike playing second base and Freddie is back. Bottom of the Rockies line up is just about as inept as the Dodgers right now.
Wake me up when SD wins something other than great city for tacos and beer.
Top four in the lineup getting the job done tonight. Edman is 0-4, not what he usually does. Muncy aboard all three times so far without a hit. May was excellent.
Munetaka Murakami, 1B/3B, NPB (Yakult)
Could this be the answer for the Dodgers at 3B going forward??
