Ryan Ward Helps OKC Win a Pair From El Paso

OKC Comets 4 – El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego) 3

OKC took a pair from the San Diego AAA affiliate.

In Game One of the DH, Ryan Ward hit an inside the park HR for the walkoff win.

Landon Knack started and his pitching line was not all that impressive, but it was not all of his doing.  In the 3rd, Tim Locastro led off with a single, stole 2nd, and scored on another single.

OKC took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd.  With one out, Alex Freeland drew a walk.  Then with 2 outs, consecutive singles by Kody Hoese, James Outman, and Hyeseong Kim plated two.

El Paso took back the lead in the 5th.  With one out, Knack allowed a single and a BB before being relieved by Jack Little.  Little walked the first batter to load the bases, and then allowed a double to score two.  Both of Little’s inherited runners scored.

Noah Davis and Logan Boyer each pitched a scoreless inning.

In the 6th, Outman led off with a single, and stole 2nd.  After two outs, Dalton Rushing hit a PH double to score Outman with the tying run.

In the 7th, Ward hit that 2-out inside-the-park HR and the walkoff win.

  • James Outman – 2-2, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI
  • Kody Hoese – 2-3, 1 run

Tulsa Drillers 6 – Arkansas Travelers (Seattle) 5

Jared Karros started and he seemed to get back on track in this one.  At least he was able to get out of most of the traffic.  In the 1st inning, 2 singles, a BB, and a balk gave the Travelers a 1-0 lead.

That lead lasted until the bottom of the 5th when the Drillers put up 6.  Taylor Young led off with a HBP,  Young was moved to 2nd on a sac bunt.  Sean McLain drew a BB and Chris Newell singled to load the bases.  In his LAD affiliate debut, Nick Senzel doubled home 2.  José Ramos walked to load the bases.  There was a run scoring ground out, followed by a Damon Keith 3-run HR, and a 6-1 lead.

Karros was still on the mound to start the 6th, and allowed a HR before Lucas Wepf relieved him.  2 runs scored off Wepf on a single, double, ground out, and balk.

With a 6-4 lead going into the 7th, Antonio Knowles relieved Wepf and gave up a solo HR. Tulsa held on for the 7-6 win.

Nick Senzel played 3B in this game.

  • Damon Keith – 2-3, 1 run, 3 RBI, HR (3)
  • Ezequiel Pagan – 2-3, triple (3)

Duke Not Snider

Surprised to see that Senzel started in Tulsa. Figured a veteran like him would be at OKC. Also surprised by Ward’s speed.
Nice to see that Freeland and Outman keep producing. Hope to see them with the big club some point soonish.

Dionysus

Freeland with pretty easy looking power.

Michael Norris

Walker Buehler undergoing imaging for a sore shoulder. Jazz Chisholm placed on the IL and former Dodger prospect, Jorbit Vivas recalled; Mike Trout headed to the IL with a bruised toe. Giants put Tyler Fitzgerald on the 10-day IL. Royals released Nick Gordon. Giants lost to Colorado last night, first time all year that the Rockies have won 2 in a row. Giants dropped 1/2 game more behind the Dodgers, now 2 back. Dodgers back with the best record in baseball after Mets loss.

Jeff, this team is old and getting older. When do you think Friedman will have to change course and infuse this roster with young talent? It seems that he’s pretty much blocked his best MiLB players from getting a shot anytime soon.

Conforto is the every day leftfielder. Conforto is 0 for 19 in the last week and 7 for 71 the last month. .145 vs RHP and .191 vs LHP, so there is no platoon option. He’s a regular that needs some time on the el-bencho, as I see it.
I know you can’t hit while sitting on the bench but a new role may suit him better for a while and give someone else a chance.
Pages may have made his career in the past 2 weeks as a Dodger.
While folks keep bellyaching about Rojas, he’s hitting .393 his last 12 games. He’s not the problem.
The slumbers continue to be Muncy, as we all hope he finds it.
Kike, who is such a favorite for some, yet he’d forges along at .188.
CT3 has 16 at bats all season, and has a role of replacing Conforto for defense in the 9th.
Even Barnes has started to hit a bit.

I would love to see Outman get a shot in Conforto’s spot.
And Rushing and Freeland and Ward………..but there is no room at the inn, for now.

Things will eventually play out. As Johnny Gentle points out, there will be plenty of new faces on the roster next year, if it doesn’t happen this year..

Michael Norris

A couple of things, first, although fans see little value in Chris Taylor, the Dodgers see something otherwise Chris would be history. His contract is really not the problem anymore. He is Conforto’s defensive caddy and plays maybe once a week as a starter. Second, Conforto is getting 17 million dollars to play for the Dodgers. He has had 90 at bats. I have to believe he has a very long leash at that price. 150-200 before LA even considers a move. The bench is thin and all right-handed, but they are not going to put Conforto on the bench just to fix that. Barnes is hitting better, so forget them bringing up Rushing or Feduccia unless Smith or Barnes go down. All the youth fans seek, will start coming to the bigs most likely next year. One position player will be called up come September. But any real upgrades to this roster, will come at the deadline.

Michael Norris

Rangers DFAd Nick Ahmed and sent Jake Burger to AAA. They called up 2 players. Guardians DFAd Vince Velasquez. Mariners outrighted Lao to AAA. He went unclaimed on waivers. Reds activated Tyler Stephenson and placed Hays on the 10-day IL. Mets promoted Blade Tidwell. Giants signed OF Daniel Johnson to a minor league deal.

Michael Norris

Starting lineup posted, Edman will not start, his ankle is still barking a little. Otherwise, lineup is pretty much the same 1-5. Muncy, Pages, Conforto and the Rojas at second.

Bobby

James Outman has 2 HR so far today. Dude is on fire.

Dionysus

Good win. If Conforto’s our worst player I can live with that. Give him May. Pages looked lost too.

Michael Norris

Outman hit 2 homers in tonight’s game and drove in 6 runs.

Dionysus

Fried solid tonight.

Michael Norris

Saw a little story that Rushing might be deadline trade bait. Dodgers more inclined to keep DePaula and Hope.
