OKC Dodgers 3 vs El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres) 14

On the Mound

Michael Grove started and had a very rough outing.  He went 4.0 innings.  He allowed 6 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks.  He did record 5 Ks.  But that was just the start of a poorly pitched game by multiple pitchers.

14 runs on 19 hits.  Let’s leave it at that.  Although Yadier Álvarez did pitch another solid .2 innings in relief to get out of jam in the 9th.

At the Plate

Not a lot of offense with only three hits.  But Jason Martin did hit a 2-run HR (13) in the first inning.

Player of the Game

Jason Martin and his 13th HR was really the only bright spot for the OKC Dodgers in this one.

Arkansas Travelers (Mariners) 7 vs Tulsa Drillers 3

On the Mound

Clayton Beeter started for the Drillers and for three innings he faced the minimum.  His only blemish was a walk, who he then picked off.  But it is usually that 4th inning that he hits a wall.  A single walk and HBP loaded the bases with two out.  Alec Gamboa was tagged to relieve Beeter and get the final out.  Unfortunately the first batter he faced singled home 2, and Andy Pages’ throwing error allowed the third run to score.  All runs scored were charged to Beeter.

Gamboa remained in the game.  He allowed a double and single for a run in the 6th.  In the 8th, Gamboa was still the pitcher.  He allowed B2B singles to open the inning, and with two out, he WP both runners up into scoring position.  He gave up a 2 run single and his night was over.  Guillermo Zuniga entered and got the final out.  Zuniga retired the side in the 9th.

At the Plate

The Drillers struck in the first inning.  Carson Taylor had a one out single and went to 3rd on an Andy Pages double.  Both runners scored on a Justin Yurchak single.  That was the offense for the Drillers until the 8th.  In the 8th, Jeren Kendall walked and moved to 3rd on a Leonel Valera double.  Kendall then scored on a 2-out WP.

Player of the Game

Justin Yurchak had 2 hits and the only two RBI’s is the POG.

Lael Lockhart allowed a single, SB, and run scoring single for the game’s first run in the 6thLockhart pitched through the 9th allowing just the one run.  He yielded 4 hits and 1 walk, and recorded 6 K’s.

Braydon Fisher entered in the 10th and with a runner on 2B, he threw a WP and moved the runner to 3rd.  After a pop out for out # 1, he surrendered a sac fly.   The run held up, and the Loons lost in 10.

In a pitcher’s duel, I have to go with Kyle Hurt.

There was a pair of 2 out 2-run HRs.  Damon Keith hit his 10th in the 3rd while Austin Gauthier hit his 4th in the 4thYeiner Fernandez had three hits including 2 doubles.  Besides his HR, Austin Gauthier had a 2-run double in the 8th.  He had 4 RBIs in the game.

Kenneth Betancourt had a three hit night.  He is quietly having a career year this year at RC.  He is batting .298/.379/.455/.834, albeit he is nearly a year above the average California League age.

Nelson Quiroz had a 2-hit night.

Player of the Game

While there was a very impressive offensive output by the team, the pitchers allowed a single run on 3 hits.  The pitching has been suspect for a while, but tonight, Ronan Kopp led a solid pitching performance, and gets the nod over the offense.
